A good start.

I wasn't going to watch this but, after Hotel Portofino and Magpie Murders caught my imagination, I had to go back to this Britbox Original.

Scottish shows like Rebus and Taggart on national tv are a distant memory these days so it is taking a while to adjust to the accents but great to see well known faces like Dougray Scott, Ken Story, Angela Griffin and Gordon "national lottery" Kennedy.

The views are a great watch and the story is doing a good job in introducing us to the characters.

There just doesn't seem anything new here though.

A troubled lead detective with a female number two makes me think of Hinterland which I loved so will continue watching.

There's been a Murder !!

This ain't no Taggart Dougray Scott is superb, a tortured soul, and Ken Stott, deserves to be a much bigger star then he is, he is made for these series was simply superb in Messiah and Rebus, and this is the problem as Scott is trying to be that character and he is not a good enough actor to be that good.

If you like this watch Rebus it was simply brilliant done by the Master that is Ken Stott.

Joanna Vanderham is very good, have not seem her before it's a good series, and I love seeing Ken Stott back on TV this deserves more of a TV audience then it's getting now this 600 characters rule is a bit nuts.

I already watch too many shows but this one's Pilot was just stunning. From very beginning it grabs with cinematography and darkness. Will have to continue and definitely recommend!

A very gritty first episode.
Sleepin_Dragon3 August 2023
Edinburgh based DI Ray Lennox is paired up with DS Amanda Drummond, when schoolgirl Britney Hamill is taken off The Streets. Lennox is convinced that she's the latest in a long line of girls snatched by the same killer.

It's a very good first episode, one thing I must take issue with however, is the scheduling, we watched this forever ago on Britbox, and thought it would bet a Sunday evening slot soon after on ITV, instead it just seemed to be forgotten about, a real shame, audiences missed a cracker.

A great start, it put me in mind of a fusion between Rebus and Prime Suspect. How we've missed the Scottish crime classics, Rebus and Taggart, although the former is returning soon.

Yes Amanda is a little irritating, and at times it feels like the only thing she's missing is a box and a megaphone, but she's there for a purpose, she actually highlights several relevant issues. Hopefully her relationship with Lennox will cool down soon.

Dougray Scott was brilliant, a terrific performance, what a presence. Great to see Ken Stott also.

Excellent start.

9/10.

Outstanding Taut Police Drama

Superbly written and acted series. Draws the viewers into the intense personal and emotional issues of DI Lennox. Great structure hooks the audience from the beginning.

Ease up on the PC rubbish.
salts7824 August 2022
Not a bad show, but so way over the top with PC nonsense, that it's almost unwatchable at times. Random references just wedged into parts of the script, with no rhyme or reason...shame, ruined what could have been a ripper show.

Almost Irvine
torrascotia6 March 2024
Like 99% of Scotland I like Irvine Welsh not just for some of his books but also for some of the films attached to his name. There usually is a certain style of his in his books however the films are something different. That is because he is a book author as opposed to a screenwriter. Trainspotting the film is nothing like the book in terms of structure, so it needed someone else's hand to make it a coherent thing suitable for cinema.

Crime is Irvine's TV series set in Edinburgh which bears some resemblance to his previous Filth. Which gives you a sense of his attitude towards the police. Crime is a police procedural of course and this episode opens with the abduction of a child.

While this is obviously a Scottish production, it seems to be ramming its Scottish-ness down our throats. Not just Scottish but Edinburgh, ay? The main character is yet another on the edge policeman who is plagued not just with addiction issues but also the guilt over a one that got away criminal. While in the main it is an interesting watch, every 5 mins of so we are treated to some ultra clunky feminist rants, either by the sidekick female cop or by the main character, making apologies for being male. It simply doesn't fit with the story and frankly people are fed up listening to this garbage which is being shoved down peoples throats, insisting we all think like them, whether its beer companies, workplaces or other ill judged journalists. If that wasn't enough Irvine has also added an uber masculine knuckle dragger who blurts out sexist comments every second sentence which would have had him fired within a week. Just who is this for Irvine? And why do you think we care or have the authority to talk about this? I will see how far into the series I can get without hearing some misandry shall I?
