Seamen White's around the world trip
JordanThomasHall15 March 2017
With his superiors away, Lt. Rex St. John (Jack Mullaney) is put in temporary command of the USS Appleby. Seaman Claude White's (Robert Sorrells) wife is about to have their baby in Omaha and Ensign O'Toole (Dean Jones) has St. John sign White's leave papers. Commander Stoner (Jack Albertson, Grandpa Joe in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and "The Man" in Chico and the Man) returns long before expected, however, and wants White to do paperwork. O' Toole and St. John work to keep the fact White is gone from the commander by dividing the paperwork among the men. They are terrible typists, so O'Toole goes to a Navy recruiting office to bring back two ladies who are trained. White is traveling on a jet who's pilot had orders to divert and is now over Australia. O'Toole radios to have White parachute out over Bombay where Chief Petty Officer Nelson (Jay C. Flippen) knows a small steamboat operator who can take him to London. We next see him on a submarine near the Azores. We see glimpses of the scenic parts of the world's major cities as White races to Omaha before his wife has their baby. The surprise ending is quite funny.
