Like most reviewers, I liked the start of the series. Very disappointing conclusion that did not make a lot of sense and was mostly a downer. Hard to enjoy.

I'm conflicted ...
jester-405647 May 2022
While I enjoyed most of episode 8 as a single hour of television, as a season finale it wasn't great. This really should have been episode 4, with whatever they had planned for S2 being eps 5-8.
Nothing was resolved in any satisfactory way, except maybe the Rhett & Maria subplot. Instead they just created more questions. And after spending so many scenes and episodes twiddling their thumbs, its just not good enough.
I also found it really weird that the mother just went home after losing her granddaughter. I know the cop didn't want to help at the rodeo (that in itself was weird), but wouldn't you get Rhett to help you look. Maybe drive around town or wait at the Sheriff's office, or go to the Sheriff's home. I know she wasn't at either place, but Cecilia didn't know that.
The one good thing is that Billy dying means no more singing every episode. Who thought that was a good idea to do once an ep? Waste of 5 minutes an episode - I skipped past them in the end.
If Prime continues with this series, they need to either fire the current creator/showrunner - or hire a new co-showrunner and editor who knows when irrelevant scenes need to be cut.

10 for content, 4 for satisfaction

This show has an amazing cast, compelling action, engaging characters, and a storyline that drew me in.
But I'm sick of cliffhangers. It seems like every streaming series does this to beg the powers-that-be to renew them for another season. How about somebody makes a ten-episode show that delivers the complete story arc? Make great entertainment, wrap it up, and move on to the next project.

Saved the best for last!

Dissapointed, but...

I think, like most viewers, I was disappointed by the lack of conclusions in the last episode of an otherwise intriguing show. That being said, the more I think about the show, the more I find it to be an allegory on alienation between parents and their children, where one minute you hold your newborn baby in your hands, and the next you look at this adult person, grown up to be a unique individual, that you don't really know. All because of the different paths you take in life, and the things you hold back, which prevents you from truly knowing your children. The whole time aspect in the show simply enhance the feeling you get of being sidetracked in your own life, where everything feels like it happened only yesterday and yet years have passed, and you are not really in sync with reality. Time is fleeting.
Called it, but still, that was cool!

Warning: Spoilers
If this doesn't call for a second season I don't know what would. This was insightful, fun, probing, and well worth it. The Autumn/Amy twist was something I theorized in episode two during their conversation. I felt it coming, and I even figured it'd be revealed through the scar on the forehead, but that being said it was still incredibly neat and shocking. With context, it's also a bit sad. Performances from Josh Brolin, Imogen Poots, and Tom Pelphrey may make it easy for one to look past Lili Taylor. Her meltdown at the rodeo felt rewarding and it was also insanely heartbreaking. Maybe even relatable for some, as she expresses her frustration at everyone's oblivion at the hysteria and weirdness going on. We leave off on a cliffhanger, which I would suspect from a Sci-Fi mind twister. If the final 20 minutes don't have audiences demanding a second season, I'm not sure what could. Superb.
Weird for the sake of being weird: Season 1 Review
estathena25 June 2022
The series began with such promise but with each episode became more convoluted, contrived, and confusing. In trying to be weird for the sake of being weird, the story too quickly frays to the point of fracture. Outer Range wants to be Yellowstone set in The Twilight Zone but ends up getting lost in the shadows of its own obtuse obscurity.
Will I watch another season? I don't know. Do I care enough to even hope the series gets another season? I don't know. I'm left feeling nothing much at all either way.

Started great.
Kept the pace and attracted attention discontinuously.
Then some arguable choices, see the weird kissing, the appearing/disappearing mountain without any real impact on anyone's life, the scenes often too dark, and the change in Autumn's personality...who else could she be, by the way?
However, I enjoyed much of it, and would give a chance to a second season.

Really ended badly

This show could've had so much potential with a mix of cowboy and sci fi but it had so many weird turns and unanswered plot lines that I really lost interest in these last few episodes. And what was with all the weird Makeout scenes in the middle? Was it just to add some spice and flair or did it have a meaning. I mean if you want to entice people to come back for season two then add a little bit of closure with a window for next season. All they did in this show was leave you wondering why the hell you watched it for eight episodes.
A Payoff after a Long Seven Episodes
polsixe18 July 2022
The Abbots are revealed in a loopy interesting cliff hangar epsiode, a few blanks are filled in with a hint of the more to come. Season was a bit long for 8 shows, there was a lot of filler along the way. Great use of songs, 2 or 3 per episode that reference the things going on.
[6.7] The "professor"
cjonesas28 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 8: A little better than some episodes with some more "explanations", if you can call them that, some thrills, some nonsense as before, lots of filler pics and sounds for a 55+ minute episode and most importantly a most stupid way to end the episode and the season.
If the writers call that a cliffhanger and praise themselves for that, then a nice yellow duck can act as a professor.

I'd be afraid of me too

Well something of a damp squib really, some items are clarified, but most is pushed off onto a possible season two. We really needed more pay-off from this season after the slow patient build up.
More questions than answers and scant reward for a, sometimes, turgid season. This feels like a betrayal. Overall a pretentious season which is neither as intelligent nor sophisticated as it purports to be.

A trippy western

See my general review, but the conclusion of S1 is just off the hook great.
What a great, great show!
Amazing
Incredible
Worthy of the finest syfy ever written
This is what TV should be.
Riveting.
Catharctic.
Freudian.
Authentic, honest and full of integrity and love.
I loved this show.

Is it God?
Noneofyour_Business9 May 2022
I dunno. I need to think it through some more maybe after a rematch. But is the hole somehow, God? It kind of makes sense. The hole is space and time, and so is God in my opinion.
At one point Royal is asked, Do you believe I got God? And he replies, I don't even know what God is... Well I do! It's that damn hole lol !!!

Best episode of this season
nitishdhakal12 May 2022
Just adding a hole on a Wyoming ranch with Tetons as a backdrop could open up endless opportunity for the writers, who would have thought.
I agree that this slow build up is not for everyone. Perhaps this episode could have been 4-5th episode in the series. They saved the best for the last. Amazing cinematography, soundfx and a very interesting plot.

Acting Sheriff and Tillersons
edlepera10 May 2022
Greedy these people are. Acting sheriff wants to nail the Abotts so bad she violated too many of their rights under the law. Autumn is truly out of sync with the time she is stuck in. The tillersons mama psycho and the psycho middle son bought need Lobotomies.
Did not stick the landing

After the season high of episode 7, this season finale was a huge miss. Nearly every moment was a misstep from beginning to end.
From the patent multiple cliffhanger ending to the ridiculous Buffalo stampede pouring out of Luke's hole all I could do was roll my eyes.
Pointless exchange of gunfire? Sure, we've got that.
Lots of digging? Why not?
Sending people back into a laughable cgi bucolic past? Yup, we've got that too.
Time travel conundrums you can see from miles away? Uh huh.
Truck chases that go on too long? Yuppers.
A complete lack of actual story or character advancement? In spades.
I want all the time I invested in this show back.

Had to hang in there and watch until the end but I'm essentially none the wiser. Still don't get Royal's ongoing misery? He shot his father by accident! He created the hole? Autumn was seriously deranged also Billy. Unbelievable and crucially unlikeable characters. Not happy.
How Did The Show Get Made?
hoops-850749 May 2022
Someone actually wrote it and find it hard to believe that Amazon quality control passed it for production to go ahead.
A mystery how it managed to attract some well known actors.
It's total garbage.
The only thing I will say in the cast's favour is how they managed to keep straight faces filming it.

7.6? No way.
Ashchamp-ac7 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Not sure how this last episode supposedly got a 7.6 rating. I really loved this series up until the last couple episodes ... mostly because nothing was answered. Where did Perry go? Why was autumn the granddaughter and why was she trying to kill Royal? Why would Rhett just up & leave his family without at least saying bye? In the end everyone was selfish and bizarre. The sheriffs story was completely unanswered. The bank scene where he randomly sings after slobbering on each other's faces? I sincerely hope there's a season 2 otherwise this is a waste of time. Pun intended.
Tone Problems

Your premise is a Sci-Fi macguffin, the hole in the ground, and Wyoming.
Ok, that's great -- I'm sold.
But then you add a rival rancher family, because Game of Thrones was a huge success.
Ok, sure. You cast them well, and the set they stay on is actually kind of cool.
But then you add in some police procedural. Because, well, you have an idea for a Sherriff character, who is a lesbian native American, and she needs a crime to solve.
Ok, sure. The actress actually does a pretty good job, and I believe the character.
But then you add in a romance plot, because, hey, you need to have a love plot somewhere.
Ok, sure, but I really do want to explore this mystery macguffin stuff.
But also there's this bull rider character. And we're not sure if he's going to place well at his local finals.

Complete Drivel
aaaadwrfe6 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The billboard says it all. It's an excuse for a complete lack of storytelling ability. The writers don't have to provide a coherent ending, because they don't know what it is; it is the unknown. It's not deep, but very shallow. If there is another season, it will still end like this: a total waste of time. They still have more directions the buffalo herd can run for 10 minutes of airtime. Actually, they could make a whole hour of buffalo running in various directions. A minute of that is breathtaking. Minutes of that is nothing written: no story at all.
Too many edibles disclaimer
symmetrymis6 May 2022
It's possible I took a few to many edibles prior to watching this episode but holy balls it's weird. Random singing scenes followed by long hugs and digging.
Not a fan of musicals so that probably taints my enjoyment of this show since one guy apparently only sings his scenes.
Overall it's a weird show full of beautiful scenery and bizarre dialogue. Random scenes that make no logical sense and did I mention the singing guy? So yea that's it that's the show.
