Betty has to find a girl to play the part of a pioneer wife who accompanied her husband on a 12 mile hike when Springfield was first settled.
One of the best Betty episodes, helped by two great guest actors. Tom Wentworth is a descendant of the man who made the trek. He is going to recreate it on Founder's Day. He is very egocentric and obnoxious, saying modern girls are too soft to make the trip with him. Betty decides to do it to teach him a lesson. Tom is played by Dick York, 6 years before his greatest fame as Darrin on "Bewitched". His great comic timing makes this unpleasant character funny and likable. Also William Schallert (later the father on "The Patty Duke Show") has some funny lines as a reporter. There is a great ending worth waiting for.
