Finally a halfway decent episode
terrylarosa1 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Writing for the most part still sucked but there was some sense of suspense and actually rooting for most characters to live instead of be killed off. Still laugh at blonde adolescent Gavin turning into dark haired, adult Gavin and some effects were really bad but the Wooly Mammoth at the end was adequately done. Also the show ended on an interesting note. If they can just hire decent writers this show might have a chance come Season 2.......

While Gavin in BC is the key to bringing them together as his grandfather Cyrus wants to prevent that and the hole from being opened.

Meaning as if the hole closes her son and daughter Izzy separated from the hole with father Gavin and Eve's estranged pilot husband there. Will be sickened.

But Cyrus the boy in BC Gavin's grandfather and claims that the boy is his only family will do whatever it takes to prevent them from the outside world from taken Gavin there.

As his "grandson" must make a decision and quickly there. As really can't wait for season 2. Wished it would arrive very early.

JUST TOO GOOD!
BooyahB1tches8 December 2021
Look, the premise of this series was dodgy...even if true. But it was fascinating to watch, and to be honest I'd watch anything with Natalie Zea. This series grew on me, and I love it in all its awkwardness and unknown faces and originality....don't listen to the negative nellies carping on about how bad it is, yet, what, they watched it?!! Please...just watch it, it's a great time filler!

amazing finale

Warning: Spoilers
This is easily my favourite show of the year! From the acting to the story to the location & the way it's filmed, it's all so brilliant. This episode is non stop brilliance to end off season 1. The scene between Lily & Veronica was so heartbreakingly beautiful, acting was amazing. The shows ability to always leave you wanting more as it ends doesn't change here as I'm already impatiently waiting for season 2!

Insulting To Their Audience

Warning: Spoilers
I'm fine with escapism TV. We probably ALL need some of that these days. However this is just trite and overwrought garbage. I watched it like the proverbial and inevitable train wreck it turned out to be.

So, HOORAY! Another magic timey-wimey hole opens up, but "Whoopsie!" it opens to 1988! Bummer! Except you know drug dealer son would be ALLLLL over a chance to go back then, with a few of those gold bars in his pockets, no arrest record, and knowledge that Apple and Microsoft will be good companies to invest in and thus become mega rich (plus, coke was all the rage then, he'd fit right in).

Of course that doesn't happen, he has to stick around to be the quasi bad-boy/anti-hero grieving a-hole next season (god please no).

A bunch of overly complicated nonsense happens, Silas is EXTREMELY determined to prevent his Grandson from going and not once does anyone wonder why or ask. People just keep making the most inane assumptions that virtually always get them into trouble.

Finally, Gavin (and his daughter) in 2022 gets to site of new sinkhole 1,200 miles north of his family's location in BC time, and despite being there with military escort at a campground full of camping gear, they both just... jump in without taking 15 minutes to grab basic survival gear.

So genius Dad's grand plan is to hoof it 1,200 miles with no shelter, food, fire, or weapons through unknown, wild terrain full of alpha predators and... well, actually we've only seen like two very poorly done CGI cats, so nevermind. Should be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

What could possibly go wrong? Giving this embarrassment of a plot line another season, that's what could go wrong.

This on its own is reason enough to cancel my Peacock streaming service.

We'll see...

Warning: Spoilers
Again with the running around from place to place to place. And questions. Do we end up with questions. How many of these people wind up in 1988 and why is nobody concerned about screwing up the timeline? Is bad cop lady actually dead? Do we care? How about cave boy/Dad? Does he ever accomplish anything or will he continue just kvetching and wringing his hands? Then there's kidnapped older quasi-sister, whatever her name is. Will she figure out that by using a stick she can pry open that trap? And the biggie; how many people in 10000 BC are related to one another or, in reality, different versions of themselves? Tune in next season when NBC may or may not pick this up for another 10 episodes. (And I have to wonder; with a 10-episode season, was this series originally pitched to Netflix? Did they pass on it and, yikes, what does that mean?)

What a mess
mjschiller-105-3133401 December 2021
I love sci-fi and the last episode wasn't too bad but this one is just a hot mess, and rarely does a show come along where I couldn't care less about any of the characters, in fact, I hope they all get killed off, that's what this show is missing, more death, it'd be an easy way to introduce some decent characters. Lets hope there is no season 2 and we get a better show in it's place, like another season of Love Island!

Season One Review
southdavid9 December 2022
All things being equal, I'd probably have not given "La Brea" a chance, it seemingly like a pretty bland example of US Network Science Fiction that gets a couple of seasons and then is cancelled without any conclusion. But. Another member of my household wanted to try it and I ended up joining them. It's a pretty bland example of US Network Science Fiction.

A giant sinkhole opens in Los Angeles and the people who fall down it awaken still in the City, but in 10,000 BC. This divides the Harris family, with Eve (Natalie Zea) and her son Josh (Jack Martin) in the past and her estranged husband Gavin (Eoin Macken) and Daughter Izzy (Zyra Gorecki) in 2022. Gavin has, for years, suffered from strange visions, which has driven a wedge into his family but now the visions seem inexplicably linked to the new location his wife and son find themselves in.

I mean, lets be clear, this is garbage. On a both a conceptual and technical level. The acting is bad, the characters are boring, and the CGI work is usually pretty terrible. It's the latest in a long line of shows to try and recapture "LOST's" zeitgeist impact, but it's trying to do it without spending the same amount of money, either in terms of promotion, or calibre of performer, and just having a weird, high concept, plot isn't enough to get you there. It's also really bad at two key aspects of telling a story like this, which are, after 10 episodes - I've no idea where we are geographically, by which I mean the distances between places seems to change to suit the story. One set of people will travel all night to reach a place and another group will be there in minutes. And also, I've no idea how much time has actually passed since they arrived through the timehole, it feels like days, but they've really not done much, but nor are they fighting over what meagure resources they do have.

All that said, and acknowledging that it's rubbish, I am going to keep watching the second season. It's the nature of these shows for me that once they have a hook I need to know what's happening and will stick with it until it's inevitable cancellation. You shouldn't watch it though... save yourself.

Best comedy of the year.
thevegastourist-0114 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This show and others like it is why we all wanted Hollywood to stay on strike a few more years. The plot holes in this make it a bad comedy. Lets try to break the chain instead of opening the bear trap?? Seriously??a I want their jeep. It never needs fuel? You have High school drama class dropouts trying to pretend to act while the elementary school writers try to prove they know what they are doing. I was waiting to see if Lego sponsored the special effects. Here's an idea. Want to get drunk fast? Take a shot of whiskey every time you say WTF? You will be drunk in the first ten minutes. Yea, it's that bad. It's that funny.
