The older model
Tweekums3 October 2018
When an old woman dies at a Milan fashion show it might not seem like an obvious case for Myka and Pete to investigate but it soon turns out that she was a young model who disappeared two days previously, and she isn't the first model to disappear. They ask questions and another young model ages in front of Pete's eyes. The next major fashion show is in New York so they go undercover; Myka as a model and Pete as her PA. Here they try to undercover just who might be aging the model and what artefact they could be using. The case puts Myka in extreme danger. Away from the main story Todd, the boy Claudia met in the previous episode, is texting her; Artie suggests she should give him a chance.

This was a fun episode. Setting an episode in the fashion world might not be all that original but it is an industry that makes itself ripe for such treatment. It was enjoyable seeing Myka going undercover as a model; Joanne Kelly was on really good form in the role... and didn't look out of place on the catwalk. While the nature of the artefact wasn't a total surprise it still had some nice details. The side story involving Claudia was enjoyable; it was nice to see her involved in something away from work with Artie acting like a father figure. The only weak point of the episode for me was when we see the rapid aging; the effects weren't the best; thankfully it usually happens off camera. Overall another enjoyable episode that fans of the series should enjoy.

Oh Pete, my sister was always the pretty one

Warning: Spoilers
The shows plot premise is a good one - models are quickly aging by 50 plus years and Pete and Myka are sent to New York to investigate. The whole reference to Oscar Wilde's the Picture of Dorian Grey is pretty nifty as is the Man Ray artifact. Also good is the side story of Claudia's starting to date the engaging young man, Todd, who she met in the previous episode. I also liked Artie conveying fatherly advise to Claudia - the relationship between the two characters works well. I tend to overlook character or plot inconsistencies in this series but in this case, Myka becomes little girl insecure. At one point she tells Pete that she can't be a model because it was always her sister who was the pretty one, the cheerleader who got all the dates. And all she was was smart and became a Secret Service agent - she wasn't pretty enough to be a model. She needs Pete's reassurance that she is, in fact, beautiful. Joanne Kelly must be a better actress than I thought because she can actually spout this drivel without either laughing or throwing up. But even this scene wasn't the dumbest in the show - that was the one where one of the models explains what great models can do - "When I walk down the runway with one look I can stop a war or start one." Oh please. The shows ends with Myka running after Pete asking him to tell her again what he said. It's a shame that the adolescent writer found it necessary to promote that old 1950s chestnut that every smart woman would rather be thought to be beautiful than smart and talented. Of course, it could be that this whole scenario was done tongue-in-cheek and was suppose to be funny. It didn't work for me.

Disappointing

Feels like this episode was written by a 12yo boy from an older generation. The plot sounds promising but instead it's full of sexist tropes & excuses to objectify women.

This also felt a lot like an episode of Bones if you took out the death and science. Yeah.
