Drama but a bit of levity
VetteRanger17 January 2023
James started the idea to do TB testing in a previous episode, and this one followed up on that. The problem? Despite being a dedicated and observant veterinarian, James turns out to be terrible at paperwork, as his contact at the Ministry brings home with an epic chewing out of James.

The secondary plots don't involve other animals, but relationships, as Mrs. Hall and her gentleman friend continue their long walks with the dogs, and Tristan begins to chat up the daughter of a rival veterinarian.

The real drama happens when James finds a milk cow with TB on a thriving farm, and then Mallock takes off the wrong cow to slaughter! Can James catch mallock before tragedy strikes?

A b-ouquet episode
xmasdaybaby19667 October 2022
The first couple of series were so good, you hate it when things just aren't quite up to scratch.

The magic doesn't seem to be here for me or maybe I have just become wise to the fact that each episode starts off fine before there is a crisis but then it is all sorted in time for tea.

Where is Mrs. Pumphrey? What was the point of replacing the late Diana Rigg with Patricia Hodge if she then doesn't appear in the show?

Despite regular appearances by Tricki Woo, his mistress has been noticeably missing this series.

Series 1 was great but now the PC brigade has truly got its grip on Darrowby.

My mum lived in the smallest town in Britain as recently as 5 years ago and the only ethnics in the village were the Indian family at the village shop (even they have been there little over 10 years) and a token afro Caribbean woman so it is hard to believe that the rural Yorkshire dales had so many minority groups more than 80 years ago.

I know the show is great escapism but let's keep it real.

A good 7 but it has been so much better.

Passable Episode
Hitchcoc3 February 2024
James finds himself burning his candle at both ends. He has taken on the task of single-handedly checking small herds of cattle for TB. This is hard enough and he has his other practice, but the paperwork and the demands of the government health agency is overwhelming him. He also is embarrassed that the boys are going off to war and he has been designated to stay behind. When he finds a cow that is infected, she is sent to be destroyed, only the man who does the killing takes the wrong animal, which could destroy the farmer. There are some god moments but it isn't a striking episode. Helen and the rest come to the rescue. We once again see the loneliness of Mrs. Hall, as she is asked to go to a concert but things are too much for her.

Warning: Spoilers
Here we see the conflicted emotions that James has, regarding the TB testing (which is lucrative financially for the practice) and also whether to join up to fight the enemy in the sequel to the war to end all wars. In real life James Herriott (real name: James Wight) served in the armed forces, so that's a prelude to what will happen as the series progresses.

Anyway, Tristan finds semi-romance with Florence Pandhi who is played with nuance by Sophie Khan Levy (whose mother Shaheen Khan starred in Bend it like Beckham), so according to imdb she appears in only one more episode which is a shame.
