As a Montanan , I have some opinions
lovethesun16 November 2022
The theme depicted of the resentment to outside rich people using Montana as a playground is spot on. The current Montana governor is not even a Montanan. He could learn a lot from John Dutton's attitude. I have seen my home state changing in a way that most Montanans are not happy about, just like the show.

Taylor does a pretty good job of getting things right but there are some that drive me crazy. Nobody in Montana pronounces coyote KY-Ote-E. It's pronounced KY-Ote. Yes, I know the original is more accurate but that's still not the way Montanan's say it.

I always laugh when they are hopping around from town to town that they mention. Montana is the fourth largest state in the union. You don't just hop in the car and leave the Paradise Valley and drive to Helena.

Another thing is, having been raised on a ranch, no rancher ever has pickups as pristinely clean as depicted on the show. A true working ranch has dirt and grit all over their trucks. It might seem small to some people but again, it's just one thing that is not a true depiction.

I know Beth is a heroine to some but I'm finding her meanness towards Jamie tiresome. She is nasty to literally everyone except her dad and Rip.

As someone else mentioned, another thing that drives me crazy is it is snowy and cold in November, which this month represents considering they just had an election. Believe me, it is not always blue skies and warm in Montana. As much money as they have for a budget, obviously, they could at least do some shooting in the winter to make it more realistic.

What is up with requiring so many characters to write a review? Now I'm forced to just ramble so I can meet the required character limit.

"Yellowstone" is becoming a parody of itself
Geekofriendly19 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After I accepted that more people get "offed" in this series that in "The Sopranos", and with almost no consequences, I started enjoying "Yellostone".

There's plenty to love about the show, right from the somber patriotic intro score to Costner's wild west wisdom groweling, all the way down to a primordial battle for land and home. And Beth is surely one of the most ferocious characters put to TV.

S1 was surprisingly good,

S2 was fantastic,

S3 went all in,

S4 wisely and boldly toned it down to the bare minimum,

S5 (so far) is sadly predictable schlock where drama happens for drama's sake. I'm not enjoying myself like I did and I'm watching it with more grains of salt than I care for. Kayce's wife should be put out of her misery and Beth has sadly become obnoxious to the point of no return. The tense, juicy rivalry is mostly still there, but Sheridan would be wise to wrap it up with a nice Montana bow before the show becomes a parody of itself.

Gahhhhh, Monica...
pie1003-791-70954723 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What is really going on with the Monica character? In one instance she's a badass, in another she's purely weak. She's in active labor and can't let her, what,14year old son drive her to the hospital? Why? I'm sure he's driven something before. Most farm kids know how to drive by age 10 or younger. But instead she drives, petal to the metal, down a dark back road and ooops, there's a cow in the middle of the road. Who drives like that, with no caution, with a child in the car? That part of the episode just erked me. I kept thinking, how completely stupid of her. If she actually made it to the hospital unscathed I would have been more surprised than a cow in the road. *Face palm*

Why The Dutton's Adopted Jaime
ecatalan9825 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Yellowstone is a terrific show! It's like a westernized version of "Game Of Thrones" to some extent. Yet, the one thing that I still can't make sense out of it is Jaime Dutton. He is mostly a universally despised character, although I'd like that "award" to go to Beth Dutton.

It seems very few people have asked themselves why Jaime is the way he is. He was, after all raised by the Duttons but always treated unfairly and out of favor compared to his other siblings.

Why on earth would John Dutton adopt the son of a junkie couple and raise him as his own only to treat him like garbage and as a pawn in his power machinations? Was there a "need" for the Duttons to adopt a child? They had (at the time) plenty kids of their own so why take another one from such a white trash couple? It just doesn't add up (until now). The writers need to fill in the blanks about Jaime's backstory before the series is over.

If Jaime is the way he is, it is certainly NOT because of his biological parents but because of the way the Dutton's raised him. It is unfair to say he's bad just for the sake of it. Beth has more evil in her that 10 Jaimes piled up together.

Jaime is the ticking time bomb of the show and at the same time, despite his treatment by his "Dad", John Dutton, he still tries to advice him about the danger of going up against a corporate giant.

At some point, John Dutton's Ill will towards Jaime and his headstrong stubbornness will back fire. If it doesn't, then the writers aren't doing their job right.

Why has this show got its hooks into me?
mattlang7721 January 2023
It's frustrating, believe me, but my wife and I really like this show. We took a chance on it about a year ago, and ended up bingeing four seasons pretty much straight. And now we start the fifth, after a healthy layoff. Why 'frustrating'? Because I can't even tell if it's any good.

This episode continues the story nicely, reintroducing us to the characters. But it is just more of the same. And annoyingly, that's no bad thing. I don't think I like any of the characters, the storylines are relatively bland. And yet, I still like it.

So, in short, it's bizarrely compelling. Bleak and wonderful. And I have no idea why. Enjoy.

Season 5 premiere
pizzmiester15 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm glad to finally see an American show portray Canadian/Alberta police the way they actually are. I live in Alberta and that is what they're like in real life. No weird accents, or bright red outfits, and not super friendly. The episode was done fairly well, but that specific scene with the Canadian RCMP is the part I liked the best. Montana has mentioned Alberta in a couple episodes now and they're always accurate. I hope to see more of that in the future. The characters are still evolving which is good and we learn a bit more about Rip and Beth's past. All in all, a good start to the 5th season.

Tension
bmiller5914 November 2022
Good first episode, but I expected more, just didn't know what.

After watching...bingeing, the first four seasons last year, I, along with rest of the Yellowstone community have been looking forward to this season, this first episode.

Everyone is back, and they have not lost any of their luster...thank you Taylor Sheridan. Beth and Jamie, their contentious hateful relationship, wow. I'm waiting for Jamie to go off the rails after being treated like he is by Beth. Then there's Kayce, he's endured so much trauma and he continues to do his job and play his character. Rip, I love how he plays the constant "got your back" guy. John Dutton, though everything that is bad about his family comes from him he is the man in Yellowstone.

We are looking forward to what is next....can't even imagine though.

Again, I was left wanting more in the first episode, I'll be patient though

TENSION!!!!!!!!

Beth & Jamie show, Posers and Puberty
dolphiea15 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It is very evident that Montanans, i.e. The writers, Do Not appreciate wealthy posers from blue states defiling what was once the unadulterated Wild West. The Beth/Jamie show-- I will destroy and humiliate you for all eternity-- Enough already, forgive move on....it's becoming a joke.... No one (Jamie) is that much of a putz. He's attorney general, come on, that makes No sense. When there are kids in the cast and a new season begins, it's always fun to see them do what writers and producers Can Not control...hitting puberty! This has always been a really good watch. Another American tragedy. Montana's Corleones.

Hoping the next few episodes are way better
austinhunt-8288515 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode fell pretty flat IMO because a lot of the scenes seemed pointless.

They seem to be coasting on their first 3 seasons at this point. The scene where Kayce was chasing the horse thieves was laughable. They're trying to portray these characters as bigger, bolder, and more righteous than they actually are. And it's getting cheesy quick.

The lack of substance with their plot combined with the blatant sponsorships (Ram and Buffalo Trace) is starting to make this show unwatchable for me.

Hoping they right the ship, but between last season and the start of this one, it's looking pretty grim. They'll need to step it up big if they don't want their fans to take 'em to the train station.

Episode 501
bobcobb30121 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I get that the show doesn't want to alienate the bulk of its viewers, but still wants to pretend to be Republican, but no one would refer to them as "non-citizens". That's not the term and they know it.

Regardless, not exactly the strongest season premiere. This was pretty much a return to the world, showcasing the beautiful setting of Yellowstone and giving some of the characters the signature kind of lines they deliver. From a storytelling perspective not too much though.

They tried to tone down Beth a little bit, but she continues to just be one of the most annoying characters on all of TV.

Picked up where it left off....
guysalisbury14 November 2022
What on earth has happened to this show. It's become so bleak. All of the characters are incredibly unlikeable and the story is going nowhere. I hoped things would pick up after the disastrous season 4, but it seems to have picked up where it left off. The constant bullying of Jamie is just getting boring. Beth's character used to have some depth and intrigue, now she just seems to be full on dick. Really, really hoping that season 5 takes a turn for the better, but at the moment, I'm not not overly hopeful. The show desperately needs some new strong characters who can shake things up a bit. Fingers crossed.

Absolutely Mid
guerrio27 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This show is as mid as it gets. I don't hate it, but I don't really like it. As a cattleman myself, I just kinda watch this show because my peers like it so I can talk to them about it, but holy crap there's so much cringe going on here. Characters whispering to each other while John Dutton is speaking in public, people reacting to things at the most ridiculous times and ways. It's comical to me. The interaction with the Canadian mounties, eeuuuggghhh.

As this show continues it feels like the conflict is increasingly forced and obtuse. Everybody in this show is a psychopath because they've all killed, or nearly killed people and just shrug it off in the matter of a couple hours of screen time. It's difficult to connect with any of them. I genuinely don't know what characters to root for because they're all kinda dirt bags. I'm just watching at this point for the beautiful landscapes and people playing cowboy.

I hope the son grows a spine
lilianobare22 November 2022
Okay. This review is also based on how the story ended in the last season and the progression. I have loved this series from episode one.

The daughter is amazingly nasty. One son seems grounded and the other is a mess. It does not compute that a seemingly smart attorney makes such bad decisions. Lets remember he gave his sister permission to hate him. Where are they leading us with this? The power to walk away seems to be lost and I know I have said this so I am looking forward to other story lines emerging in this series and this season. I keep watching and hoping for more and better plots. I really love the depth of challenges presented to this family and I hope that remains the trend.

Why tf do they always let Beth have the last word?
nandoaln17 December 2022
That's what bothers me the most. So unrealistic, every "conversation" she has with anyone and she talks backs she ALWAYS has the last word and 'wins' the partícular debate or dispute, even though there's sooooo many things one could reply to her last statements!!! It infuriates me because it's bad and unrealistic writing.

Particularly vs Jamie... I find myself screaming at the TV to Jamie, "say something back!!!!!" There's plenty on dirt on Beth to shut her up.

Aside from that, this series has seriously lost it's edge. The dialogues are now predictable. The plots are nonsensical and the stakes are so low now. No feeling of loss anymore.

Glad Y'all are Back
sjstitzer16 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Compared to the crap on regular network tv the first two episodes of Season 5 were worth the wait.

I loathe politics (can barely get through the nightly news). Love-hate-love Beth. Love Rip. If Jamie can kill his biological Dad, how has he not yet taken out Beth?

I love the bunkhouse characters-they seem the most genuine to me, and I especially like Teeter (you own one more dress than me, lol!).

Beautiful Montana scenery.

Somebody's gotta do something about syncing the voices to the mouth movements of the actors. Super distracting.

And how in the heck did Monica end up in the roadside field? She just walked or crawled that far from the wreck? Please, gah.

It's winter in Montana
quockquock15 November 2022
They just had a gubernatorial election. That mean's it's November. In Montana in November there is snow. Nope! Not with this horrible writing. People are outside in short sleeved shirts. Even at the Canadian border there's no snow. Why can't the writers use basic facts? They get half of the ranching and wrangling aspect wrong. What group of grown men just sit around the bunkhouse playing cards and drinking beer... in EVERY episode? Can the ever relax without Rip coming in the bunkhouse to complain about something? If Rip EVER wrong? About anything? Is Beth ever civil, to ANYONE? Are we to believe this kind of lifestyle is actually a thing? Anywhere?

Disappointing
harknessk15 November 2022
After nearly a year off, this is what they came up with??? Poor writing. Boring. Cliche. The writing is making the actors look bad. No one cares about Beth and Rip anymore. Nothing has changed with them or with Beth's relationship with Jamie. Still all the same. Just throw in a few different music scenes with cowboys wrangling cattle and think the audience will enjoy? The scene with the Canadian Mounties was just unnecessary. Was it an attempt at making a political statement? If so, wow, such a bold move!!!...not. It seemed amateur and the dialog was ridiculous. The episode had the feel of a bad high school play. I feel like the fool paying Paramount+ to watch this garbage. Subscription cancelled now.

The end of the road
towe-5162014 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Taylor Sheridan always starts strong and goes out with a whimper, all his characters defeated! Remember when the Chief asked to bury his father on Dutton land and Tim McGraw told him yes. The chief said after 7 generations the land would revert back to the Natives. Tate is the 7th! Notice his brother John only lived for an hour and Rip who usually thinks all will be ok now makes Beth look like the ultimate optimist! The end is here and this will be the Dutton family will end with Tate's death, unfortunately! Too many irons in the fire. He's Tarantino or Rob Zombie of Westerns! Pure overkill! What was once enjoyable is now just nihilistic depression!

Kind of boring, has lost its pop.
BruceWayne315 November 2022
This episode was not that good. Beth's love story really is not that interesting, I think it's safe to say we could care less. Her back story about her always being in the streets is not a surprise and it was a waste of my time to watch.

The jerk off rip said if you see a coyote or a wolf to shoot it. Btw this is the thinking of the dirty disgusting current Governor of Montana - get that rat out of office.

Honestly the episode was kind of a let down The ending was weak, we've seen a similar storyline with her being injured or hurt really bad.

I honestly was bored with this episode.

The series is starting to lose its excitement.

IMBD please stop with the 600 characters I'm not sure how many different ways I can verbalize just how bad this episode was.

I watch this show like Dr pimple popper
grlym-4684919 November 2022
I'm not sure if I watch this because good post pandemic tv is as sparse as during the pandemic or it's some sort of guilty pleasure. Like watching a really bad show to laugh

And here is why, I think this

The show unapologetically displays the Dutton family as the Sopranos. Low moral and unethical values towards everyone but the literal few members in the family (but not all family members). Murder is easily accepted and for trivial reasons. They brand human beings in this morbid sense of ownership/solidarity for the worker bees.

I have no idea hy so many people rave about Beth. She is a repulsive human being with zero humanity. Evil comes to mind. Sociopath comes to mind. I have not want d a show to kill off a character so bad since Geoffrey in GOT, but even that show had what this one does not...it had a give and take of power and struggle between people and groups.

The script in nearly every episode is a child's game of "I win". The plots are laughable as their is zero real character development in any character on the show. No lessons. No obstacles...the give and take. It's just an entry if new character...a Dutton has a tantrum and then they win. Zero real world accountability. They use situations like other gravity ti then and characters like tissue paper. Use them and then throw them away for no purpose than Dutton win. It has been a long time since I have seen a show close to as bad as this with so many aspects. I can B rated shiws know to let the main cast struggle for good portions of a season. To show lessons learned. To grow. To change.

And the toxic cowboy up mentality fixes all. Get shot with builders several times over...then just cowboy up and you can just rip out your IV and walk out the hospital, go ride a horse and good in a few days at full health. --or destroy your spine, but cowboy up after doctor says any impact will make you a quadriplegic and then you are suddenly fine. Although ti be honest about that character...he was the ONLY one I router for...and mainly to get away from Duttons...to a ranch's be people who aren't evil.

But route for all characters that have a chance to obliterate the Dutton family. This show has made me not trust Montana as a whole...even though I'm sure most people there are just hard working people. But this show is my only reference and has made me not want to ever go there. And that makes me sad, even though I realize this is a fake depiction. But real world people have swept social media applauding this family. Especially Beth. And that is what scares me.

In contrast, the spin off 1883 was incredible. Shocking that 2 singers did 1000% better than veteran actors in Yellowstone. Supposedly there is another spin off coming. I hope and pray it's like 1883 and not Yellowstone.

Sellouts, 7 commercial breaks, really?
seanbledsoe28 March 2023
Sellouts, 7 commercial breaks, really? At 5 commercials per break at 2 1/2 minutes. 20 minutes of commercials for an hour long show. The show definitely deserves an 8 but how season 5 is forcing me to watch a show, exclusively on Paramount+, which I subscribe to, same with Hulu, Peacock, Netflix and so on. I pay this because I hate commercials. For a decade I would buy every movie and TV series because I wasn't going to spend $50 to take my wife to the movies or wait a few months and just buy it. I find that commercials are intrusive, inappropriate content for children. I don't understand why Paramount is not allowing subscribers to view season 5 through the Paramount+ app on my Apple TV, I have to search apple and still don't know where season 5 even came from, not from Paramount+, that's pretty obvious. So who would have done this?

Please get better
mjdeibert-791544 September 2023
Lukewarm at best. Starting to look like a network show where all storylines are tied up with a nice, neat bow, and situations get worked out by the next commercial break.

Also, getting kind of tired of the Beth/Jamie dynamic; tired of Beth destroying everyone she ever talks to - god forbid she have a decent conversation where she doesn't tear someone down and belittle them. I'm tired of Jamie being so weak; he has a lot to offer - looking for him to rise up, which knowing the show's dynamic, there will be a lot of silver tongue tough girl posturing by Beth followed with a beating by Rip. Finally, tired of the likes of John Dutton and Rip out smarting and being more clever than anyone else, even veteran law enforcement officers, attorney generals, senators, business men, etc. I'm under the impression their educations are limited and mostly based on life experience, which isn't to say you can't be smart or clever, but when John can shutdown a room full of seasoned politicians, seemingly knowing all the angles? Come on. And Rip always knowing what to do in every situation? It wouldn't hurt for him to get it wrong once in a while, or get knocked down and being able to exact revenge.

West Wing out west
silverton-3795922 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It looks like this show has done itself in. I wasn't intending to watch any more of this, but I got a discount on the first episode so I went ahead and bought it. I think that this is it for me. John has become a politician now. True to form, he seems to be on Adderall because his speech aphasia is in remission. That's what the handlers do to politicians with speech aphasia.

Anyway, John says things to the absentee owner big shots that politicians never say unless they're still campaigning, like "We aren't your playground" and promising added taxes on non-resident property owners and businesses. Governors and presidents say that kind of thing, knowing that they don't have the authority to do whatever they want, the legislature has that authority.

This looks like it's the Beth and Daddy show now, which it started being in the 4th season. Y'all can have my share of this thing.

Cliches all the way.....
gvdkzg20 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Pregnant woman decides to drive her car to meet dumb ass cowboy husband.

Speeds along along and then has contractions....any normal person would actually pull over by the side of the road and wait for assistance or call the emergency services. But the writers have to go with the same old formula, to make the storyline exciting.

Throw in the obligatory wild animal on the road and another driver not paying attention to the road.....and it's all so predictable.

Every time I see Beth Dutton, I grit my teeth and my blood boils - such an awesome actress playing a character you love to hate.

Kevin Costner is the only reason I've still stuck with this series andI hope it gets better and we see Beth and Rip get dropped off at the train station....
