A hilarious and thrilling start to a new season!

Warning: Spoilers
The Afterparty is back with a bang, delivering a fresh and fun murder mystery that will keep you hooked and laughing. The second season follows Aniq and Zoe, who are now a couple, as they attend Zoe's sister Grace's wedding to a tech billionaire named Edgar. However, things go horribly wrong when Edgar is found dead the next morning, along with his pet lizard Roxana. Aniq calls his old friend Detective Danner, who has retired from the police force, to help solve the case.

The first two episodes are told from Aniq and Grace's perspectives, respectively, and each one is styled as a different film genre. Aniq's episode is a rom-com sequel, full of awkward moments, misunderstandings, and hilarious jokes. Grace's episode is a drama, revealing her backstory with Edgar and the tensions in her family. Both episodes are well-written, well-acted, and well-directed, with clever twists and clues that will keep you guessing.

The cast is amazing, with Sam Richardson and Zoë Chao reprising their roles as Aniq and Zoe, and Tiffany Haddish returning as the sassy and smart Detective Danner. The new additions are also great, especially Zach Woods as the eccentric and lovable Edgar, Poppy Liu as the conflicted and mysterious Grace, and Elizabeth Perkins as the cold and ruthless Isabel, Edgar's mother. The chemistry between the characters is palpable, and the dialogue is witty and sharp.

The Afterparty season 2 is off to a fantastic start, with two episodes that are both entertaining and intriguing. The show manages to balance comedy and mystery in a unique and original way, making it one of the best shows on Apple TV+. I can't wait to see what happens next!

I Love This Show

The Afterparty premiered with a classy first episode, featuring Aniq's rom-com shenanigans to characterize his mess-ups. The show's quirky brand was carried forward with new characters Edgar, Isabel, Travis, and Sebastian. Despite familiar tropes, watching them unfold in this setting paid off. Haddish's arrival was delayed by Danner's drive back, but she is expected to be a promising author. Season 2 began positively, with Grace's wedding having all the trappings to become the right one. The second episode is released on the same day as the first episode, ensuring a satisfying and engaging experience. Episode 1 of The Afterparty features another murder as Edgar, the groom, is found dead on his bed. The show follows Aniq and Zoe, who are together at the wedding of Grace and Edgar, Zoe's younger sister. Isabel, Edgar's mother, accuses Grace of the murder after hearing Aniq whisper that Edgar was definitely murdered. Isabel is friends with Sherrif Reardon, or Howie, and there may be romantic sparks between them. Sebastian, Edgar's business partner, convinces her not to call Howie. Aniq, who has Detective Danner's card, contacts her, who has quit the police force and is now focusing on her writing career. Danner is excited to hear Aniq is with Zoe and reveals he was about to propose to her. However, everything that could have gone wrong did, and then there's the murder. Danner investigates another murder in a different capacity, focusing on understanding everything from Aniq. She calls this the "perfect sequel" and returns to narration mode. Aniq arrives at the Minnows Vineyard, where he meets Edgar, Roxanna, and Grace. They have a conversation about Brett, Zoe's ex, and Aniq's forgetfulness to put on the handbrake in his car. Aniq accidentally crashes into Feng's truck, pitting him against him. Feng runs King of Bing and asks Kyler to film the truck for damages. At the rehearsal dinner, Aniq is seated with Travis, Grace's ex-boyfriend. He asks why he wasn't placed at the family table, and Isabel identifies him as an outsider. Sebastian and Hannah, Edgar's sister, embarrass Aniq with a lighthearted gush. Danner reinforces her "sequel" analogy on the drive. Aniq, a drug abuser, is jokingly called a "drug abuser" by Hannah and Isabel in front of Feng and Vivian. Sebastian introduces Ulysses, Grace's uncle, to Feng, who is not as loved by the sisters. Feng gives a toast implying harm to Edgar if he hurts Grace. Ulysses asks them to drink koumiss, a traditional drink, but Edgar refuses. Aniq volunteers to do it in his place, but koumiss is fermented camel's milk, which Aniq spits out on Vivian. Aniq reveals his failure to warm up to his family, and she confesses her own feelings about Grace's potential disinterest in marrying Edgar. She agrees to keep this to herself, but Aniq overhears them talking about something and runs away. Aniq eventually comes out of his hiding place in the bushes, handing over the charger and claiming to be "sleeping with their daughter." In the present, Zoe tries to console Grace, who argues that she didn't like Edgar and she might be behind this. Travis spins his theory and true-crime obsession on Zoe. On wedding day, Aniq has another chance to redeem himself, but he accidentally picks up the wrong family, Chinese uncles and Korean aunties. Sebastian saves the day and brings the family to the vineyard. Aniq and Edgar bond by imitating lizard mastication, and Edgar even senses Aniq's anxiousness and proposes to Zoe. Edgar offers him a role in the wedding ceremony to help him, but Zoe is worried about this, as she had told Grace not to go ahead with the wedding.
