A Beautiful Short
LKguy127 April 2019
As a young teenager in Toronto,I greatly enjoyed the music of Acker Bilk and His Paramount Jazz Band. In the early sixties, I went to see two movies at the local cinema. At that time, it was common practice to insert a short film between two features, often a travelogue or animated cartoon. To my surprise & delight, "Four Hits and a Mister" was shown. The film contained four selections by Acker Bilk including his hit song "Stranger on the Shore." This was the first number and it had a lovely ending to this wistful song. Each piece had its own staging. I remember that "In a Persian Market" was filmed at the "Omar Khayyam Nightclub" in London. A lovely belly dancer was gyrating while Acker played. My memory of the other pieces is limited but I remember that I enjoyed the short throughout and I hope that if the film still exists, that it may be incorporated into another video featuring Acker Bilk or his music.
