The Creation at its most beautiful
TheLittleSongbird31 December 2022
'The Creation' is one of Rabbit Ears Productions' nine The Great Stories Ever Told adaptations, based on stories from the bible. The story of Noah and the ark was one of the stories from the Bible that always stuck in my mind the most for some reason, most likely because of it being one of the first Old Testament stories read, along with the story of Joseph and the Moses stories, and because it is so iconic and quite important.

Rabbit Ears' adaptation of 'The Creation' is absolutely beautiful in pretty much every regard. Have said many times at how all their output in all their different series are must watches, perfect for kids and adults alike, and their best efforts (including three of the Greatest Stories Ever Told adaptations, my favourite of the three being 'The Savior is Born') are absolutely fantastic without issue. This may not be one of the best, but it is still a must.

Not much wrong here in 'The Creation', but it doesn't quite have the emotional power of 'The Savior', 'Moses in Egypt' (with that powerful opening) and the Good Samaritan portion of 'Parables that Jesus Told'.

However, there are so many brilliant elements and what was mentioned above was nit picky. One thing that really stood out here in 'The Creation' was the visual style which actually does much of the talking. Which is incredibly striking and at its best absolutely exquisite, like seeing the Soyuzmultfilm fairytale adaptations from the late 40s-early 50s. Of the Greatest Stories Ever Told adaptations, this is probably the best looking and certainly the most creative, as ought considering the story.

Also wonderful are the music and Amy Grant's narration. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones' music is very soothing and like a mix of folk and relaxing Spanish guitar music, think along the lines of "Memories of the Alhambra" with a little less of the tremolo technique. It fits perfectly with the very poetic and subtle way the story is told. Grant's narration is very sincere and is the kind that invites children to stop what they're doing and come and listen further.

Loved the poetic sounding writing and how accessible for all ages the storytelling is, which is primarily very visual. The pacing is gentle but never dull, it is easy to understand without being juvenile and it is not too conventional or tired despite being such an old story. All the creation scenes are beautiful to look at and done with creativity.

Overall, wonderful. 9/10.
