They keep missing great opportunities
internet_guy15 August 2022
Once again, they have missed a great opportunity for a secondary (or tertiary) thread with recurring actors. Cay Ryan Murray's character, Teagan, presented a great chance for an recurring role as a troubled teen mentored by McGee. Such a character could give greater depth to McGee's character while giving him advice on raising his own kid.

Likewise, in the last episode Torres' previous love interest, Maria, could continue to be an occasional guest and love interest to Torres who otherwise has been pretty much been a singe dimensional guy on here.

It would be nice to have the agents interested and involved in something other than just work 24/7.

Great episode

Cay Ryan Murray did a great job representing a teen struggling with emotional challenges. Her acting was authentic and natural.

The new additions to the team this season are great actors.

Rules, we don't need no stinking rules or do we?
steveclem-4377811 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Gibbs rule number 10: Don't make it personal. Who breaks this rule, Mcgee. The one person left on the show who should know it forward and backward by now. Why is it in existence? Objectivity. Why is that important? Well, because people can get killed if you are not focused and doing your job, right Magoo? Two head slaps, an icy stare, and possibly some quick choice words is what you deserve for letting a teenager outsmart you by getting your head all twisted around. You have also deserved a guilty conscience for letting a man die when you could have done something about it. Does the person who wrote this episode even know the rules? Do they care? Do they understand this show is predicated on two core ideas: One: if someone dies NCIS works tirelessly and endlessly until the guilty are brought to justice. Two: if someone is in harm's way we double down and spare no one until we find the truth and save them. Does this sound familiar? This is your show? You should know this right? No, not when you're using a staff writer that's more like a staff infection. Both of them get in there and screw up a perfectly working organism bringing it to its knees. Instead, This genius, right out of the school, I assume of WB writers, seems to care more about a teenager who has peer issues. Big deal! Seventy five percent of the teens her age have the same problem. Guess what? I'll tell you the ending. You'll live through it, smartmouth and all, once you get over yourself and understand your mom,who is providing the ultimate service, and is one of the biggest heroes this country will ever see. Are you serious? Do we let people die because we need to tap dance around this teen's feelings ? Do you understand that this violates every rule of logic that ever existed? Do you understand you have taken one of the best shows TV has ever created and belittled everything and everyone who has ever been on it, watched it, or ever appreciated its messaging. The reason you bring an actor like Gary Cole into your show is that he brings gravitas to your show to keep this from happening. The reason you bring Katrina Law to your show is that she was Quinn Liu and she could deliver that same for you on NCIS that She did on Five- O. Instead of taking advantage of this and maintaining a level of respectability or at this point competence, for did I say one of the best shows ever you debased yourselves and created the biggest pig pile of soppy, sappy, gooey redundancy ever perpetrated on the American public. Congratulations, you did something the Russian government could only dream of doing. Killing the American spirit. Let me put it this way. You wrote this episode for this reviewer and this reviewer alone. "Cay Ryan Murray did a great job representing a teen struggling with emotional challenges. Her acting was authentic and natural". There's a show for this person. I think this person would like this show very much. It's called the Facts of Life. It deals with teenage struggle and emotional changes. My guess is she thinks she is Natalie but more like Blair who wishes she was jo. Jeez... we'll never find out unless we put Mcgee on the job. Enough! I want the real NCIS back, you know when Gibbs was there, and I'll be happy. I don't care about Cay Ryan Murray if nepotism is what brought her to this episode. Apparently, she is who got our sailor / inventor killed. If you want to see a good episode of NCIS with Children who have real problems let me refer you to season 9 episode 8 and 9 Engaged. It should be in your handbook of greatest NCIS episodes ever. One everybody should be proud of knowing. This is the one with Sophia Pernas, who we are still waiting to see in season two of Blood and Treasure, rescues two young girls in Afghanistan. The most profound words provided by Gibbs who says "You get these girls whatever they want" after finding them abused with cigarette burns over 80% of their bodies. This is a real serious problem, and a very humbling situation. It's a very proud and warm moment for viewers. It's not that I have to move all the time and I have no friends. Shut Up! All I got from it was a sharp pain in my temples. For all of those who have ever watched Scorpion, we understand that IQ is more important than EQ. Even though EQ has its place. Therefore I ask, why are you writing this nonsense? Who goes to college saying I want to write this? Only if you have 64 Crayola's in your pencil box maybe but that's it. If there is a next year for this show, pray for an intellectual renaissance instead of a post Gibbs betrayal.

What the...HUH?

NCIS was a great show (emphasis on WAS)...until the last couple of years. This current year has been particularly, well, boring and slow compared to its history. As more and more of the original crew left, and especially when Harmon left, it seems the writers have simply 'taken the day off'...Is it time to retire with grace? Everything has a shelf life...

The end is near
Ajm30010 May 2022
After 19+ years of excellence in writing & acting it's not surprising good stories are increasingly difficult. But cookie-cutter characters, sugary, entirely unnecessary interactions (none of which have any depth) are laughable... At least McGee's daughter was wearing a princess dress, not cross-dressing.

Brat gets away with murder
skipperkd22 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Oy vey. In this alternate universe, if you are smart and pretty, and oh so naïve, it's perfectly okay to hack naval security codes, illegally enter homes on base, and enable a murder, albeit unknowingly. Still, she knew she was breaking the law by first stealing the codes and second giving out those security codes. Felony murder, right? Nah. It's all okay, cuz teen angst.

Agent McGee broke the rule and made it personal. Very. He seemed blinded by his need to show sympathy and support to a fellow misunderstood military brat.

In real life, that hacker would get more than a friendly slap on the hand.

The episode lost it's emotional impact when the script diminished the death of Tang. His story got buried under teen drama.

It was fun to see McGee/Murray's real-life teenage daughter.

Bottom line, please find some better writers, hopefully from this universe.

The Brat Pack
bobcobb3012 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Having kids in the thick of things could have made for an interesting dilemma, but this was just not an incredibly exciting episode. Dragged on for far too long and had weak actors in guest spots.

4/10 is Generous, but so many more episodes have been worse
koohii6 May 2023
Let me tell you something about NCIS: the writing has been getting worse and worse and worse. For the last 6 years, there have been 1 or maybe 2 good episodes per season, and a whole smeg-ton of garbage, and usually a couple of episodes I wish I could Un-See. This year has been no different. Worse, they're following the (and I do hate to use this term) "Woke" trend (It's not really 'woke,' It's Hollywood poser/lecturer 'Woke.') Case in point: Teegan is brilliant because she isn't using computer codes from the 1990s. This, for some reason, impresses McGee, who has an advanced degree in computers. Teegen saves the day because she can turn on someone's cell phone. Um, Hello? TV shows have been using "the government can turn on your cell phone even if you turn it off" for over ten years! CSI did it, Bones did it, CSI:NY did it, and I'm pretty sure even NCIS may have done it. The only reason for this to be impressive is if McGee is a complete and total swutting IDIOT. You don't make a smart character by making the genius stupid--You make a smart character by making him/her even smarter than the genius.

The writing in this episode is just terrible. And the schlocky ending made me want to HORK.

It isn't the actors' fault: it is 100% the WRITERS who are to blame. And did I just hear that they're going on strike? Well good--maybe we'll get some fresh talent in--people who actually CAN write. Maybe even ones that understand Aristotelian principles of Theater, Plot, and Character Development.

One of the weakest episodes of this season
harrykivi3 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
"The Brat Pack" is written by Kimberly-Rose Wolter and Katherine Beattie, two new writers of this great show. Both of them have shown that as writers they have interesting ideas ("Collective Memory" cowritten by Wolter had a great premise, "Fight or Flight" written by Beattie had its moments). That being said, the executions of these ideas are not always very good. "The Brat Pack" is a good example of that. This is unfortunately not a solid episode at all, actually find it to be one of the worst entries in this season, not as bad as "Peacekeeper" or "First Steps", but pretty close.

Let's start with the good.

. The production values of this episode are great. "The Brat Pack" is well-directed and the music fits the scenery. The acting is agreed a mixed bag here. Sean Murray is always good as McGee, it was nice to see his daughter on the big screen. Hope that Cay Ryan Murray improves herself as an actress, because I see potential- she definitely has a presence. I would suggest working on her line delivery and mimics, her performance did not feel natural at times. I see that quite a bit in starting actors.

. There are jokes that land, the banter between the team is rather fun. Did like the theme of what it's like being a parent and feeling neglected as a teenager. There are also few moments of tension.

But....

. The dialogue is quite uninspired at times and the story, which I found a bit bland, lacked intrigue. Didn't find the subplot about Casey and Knight competing very funny either. Do agree that McGee feels out of character and his bond with Teagan, who is actually rather nasty, felt forced. I was also curious that Teagan gets away with hacking and helping her boyfriend to murder someone. The writing is sadly not very good here.

Overall, not good.

4/10 HK.
