John addresses with Stanley's father Mr. Boswell (James Jeter) how Stanley has been late to school. Mr. Boswell determines that Stanley must be taking a longer route to avoid passing the old Crabtree mansion. John offers to help Stanley of his haunted house fear by taking him inside to disprove those fears with the scientific truths. When Stanley comes over, John has changed to Little John who takes him instead, along with Ricky. Spooky things happen inside. Little John secretly morphs back into Big John, making Stanley think Little John has been eaten by the spirits. After hearing the talk at school, Miss Bottomly leads John, Stanley, Valerie (Cari Anne Warder), and Homer (Kristoff St. John) inside the home to disprove the talk. Indeed, the home is occupied by Lionel P. Crabtree (western actor Don "Red" Barry) who wishes to scare everyone away. The spooky incidents work, but when John changes back to Little John, even Miss Bottomly thinks John has been captured. John struggles to solve the mansion's mystery while also finding a way to make everyone think his other self hasn't disappeared.
