My Review - Series Two

Wolf Like Me 2023 Stan My Rating 9/10 I've added on to my original review of Series 1 because the 2nd Series I felt kept the excellent standard of the overall production.

After watching the 7 roughly 30 minute episodes of Series 2 of this beautifully produced and originally written genre crossing series by Australian Abe Forsythe I stand by my review of series One.

I think Wolf By Me is a television gem and its three stars Isla Fisher , Josh Gad and Ariel Donoghue have the best chemistry and believability as a family that I've seen in a television series in a long long while.

Try and suspend your judgment If you happen to think a story about a woman finding romance after 12 years of isolation due to eating her husband the first time she turned into a werewolf repeating the process every full moon preposterous please think again.

The brilliant concept created by Actor ,Director, Writer Abe Forsythe is no more preposterous and just as warm hearted as Tim Burton's 1990 creation Edward Scissorhands .

The character of the Werewolf could be substituted for anyone who feels like a misfit on a quest to belong in a family or community.

This series for me is a joy to watch and listen to with a fantastic nostalgic soundtrack of pop songs from the end of last century that help with the lightness of this romantic comedy .

The darker side Mary's transformation and its consequences of are not traumatic to watch and are more implied than actual.

When Mary played with such charm by Isla Fisher returns to human form to be reunited with her affable soulmate Garry played by Josh Gad and her much loved step daughter Emma played by Ariel Donoghue this Supernatural/fantasy rom com would charm the socks of the most sceptical viewer.

This series deals with Mary's impending motherhood and segues seamlessly from the climatic finale of Season One.

Hopefully Season 3 will be commissioned soon and I hear could be the most intense yet as Gary and Mary navigate the challenges of being parents to a werewolf pup.

My Season One - review

This original Australian series set in Adelaide and The Outback but mostly filmed in Sydney and Broken Hill is described as a Genre bending series.

I suppose because it does cross Comedy Romance Thriller / Horror genres but all I can say is congratulations to the Production team and the cast for one of the most original and unexpected viewing pleasures for me so far this year.

Also congratulations for not dragging out the series just 6 episodes not more than 30 minutes each is enough for the first series to introduce us to 3 very interesting characters with enough plot development easily for another series at least .

. No spoilers at all as they would ruin the story except to say we have Gary who is an emotional wreck and struggles to provide for his daughter since the death of his wife.

Josh Gad is delightful as Gary a mid life plumpish Dad who is on the dating trail again and just can't seem to forge a connection with either his date matches or his feisty daughter Emma who is played delightfully by Ariel Donaghue.

Humorous and Bizzare situations advance quickly when Gary meets Mary played by Isla Fisher an actress that impresses me greatly.

Mary has a secret she can't bring herself to share with anyone. The universe brought these two together for a reason.

The on screen chemistry is great between Josh Grad and Ariel Donaghue and we need to see both these talented performers together again.

Abe Forsythe the writer and Director knows how to please an audience on screen and I hope he can expand on this first series of Wolf Like Me .

With regard to the show's second installment, here is the deal. Nothing has been stated officially yet, but we have good reason to believe that the series will be back for another round. For one, the most talked about aspects of the show are the unexpected plot twists and tonal shifts. With that said, it appears that the storyline can head in numerous directions if there is a second installment.

At the conclusion of Wolf Like Me another great comedy moment came to my mind from the Billy Wilder classic Some Like it Hot? Which has gone down as one of the funniest lines in movie history.

The very final scene when when Daphne (Jack Lemmon) removes her wig and finally explains to Osgood why she can't marry him - because she's a man that and Osgood just grins as only Joe E Brown could replying "Well, nobody's perfect." You'll have to see this series to know what I mean..
