The tool of vengeance.
Sleepin_Dragon15 January 2023
Lady Felicia returns for a visit to Kembleford, she's quick to protest at an exclusive all men's club, just before it's bully of an owner is killed.

It may not have been as sharp as last week's, but still a fine episode, it has a good storyline, some very nice characters, including a face from the past and an interesting (if obvious) conclusion.

It is one of those storylines that's perhaps seen with the eyes of a 2023 audience, Gentlemen's clubs were commonplace at that time, would Lady Felicia really have been so outraged, I'm not sure about that.

Brenda Palmer is back after her first appearance in the previous series episode, The Wayward Girls, she made for a really nice addition to the show.

I really enjoyed the sparring between Lady Felicia and Mrs Devine, it was inevitable, and worked very well, infrared they'd get on line a house on fire, fortunately they didn't. Mrs Devine continues to impress.

8/10.

The Company of Men

Warning: Spoilers
Lady Felicia returns but her trademark scream is nowhere to be seen or here.

Instead it is dagger out between her and the new parish secretary, Mrs Devine. It's a catty relationship.

Lady Felicia is also not pleased with a former jazz club once owned by John Harrow. Now an exclusive gentlemen's club operated by chauvinist Jasper Granford.

He does not allow women in his club and Lady Felicia protests. Granford also does not allow black men, even though Harrow the previous owner is black. He was retained as an employee.

Father Brown gets involved when Brenda Palmer, a trouble young woman he once helped out is accused of theft. Father Brown quickly figures out the true culprit.

He and Inspector Sullivan investigate when Jasper Granford is stabbed to death. His son is held for murder and planning to rob his father''s safe with an elderly colonel who has gone missing.

Granford specialised in causing businesses to go bust, usually by way of promises of loans and then buying them back cheaply. The suspects mount up.

I did think that the elderly make up on the colonel did give the suspect away too quickly. I do like the less abrasive relationship between Father Brown and Sullivan. They are still not best buddies.

Another great episode, fine for youngsters

I'm really enjoying the mix of old and new characters - this show has always done a great job of moving forward but with fan favourites popping back all the time too. Also I am very intrigued by the hinted Kembleford backstory with certain residents. 'Father Brown' has a good mix of adult ages and is usually, but not always, ok for younger people - this episode is fine, in my opinion. We pretty much got the big twist early on - but were still a million miles off as to who - totally on the wrong track as we read too much into it! So far, it is brilliant having the show back ... after all the real-world changes and events, it is good to have some familiar but fresh TV.

Father Brown trying to be politically correct
sgtnovak21 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The old characters had charm and were believable. The plots were interesting and Father Brown's relationship with people was always respectful. This episode went full out with 21st century morals (they acted like they had never heard of a gentleman's club) and the police seemed like they just followed everything Brown said. Lady Felicia chaining herself to the bar was ridiculous and the scene where the cop says he is arresting the girl for aiding the murderer in her escape was unbelievable. "I am arresting her." "No, you are not!" "Okay." Then the cop just left. Brown has lost his charm and humility, the supporting cast is inept, and the show is trying to force current issues onto the audience.

I miss the old Father Brown.
