Heartbreaking 💔
KatWoman4 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
My husband and I saw it coming the moment Clay answered the phone, and yet it was still so heartbreaking. At least the writers didn't totally steal Chris Kyle's death and have the other soldier kill Clay; so having the security guard do it was shocking. That security guard better be held accountable, though, and Clay wasn't even pointing the gun at him! Very tragic end to what could have been a happy ending for a disabled vet. Now everyone is playing the Blame Game for Clay's death. Was glad to see that Stella isn't taking part in it. She was just thankful to have her husband back before it happened. Poor Brian will never know his remarkable father. Hopefully he'll learn someday from Bravo Team.

Hard to watch

Warning: Spoilers
I think people are giving this a low rating because of the immense emotional toll it takes on them. Clay was my favorite character, but this show has always been about showing the real hard truths about what happens to the guys that come back home. While clays demise isn't the norm, it certainly gives a nod to the Chris Kyle story. Puts you in that same devastating position that many faced when Kyle was murdered. Sucks to lost Clay, I know he went to do Fire Country, but man it was tough losing him that way.

I am a grown man, and I cried like a baby watching it all play out. The following episodes to close out the season made it even harder to watch.

I just wanted to bump this rating up because it wasn't a "bad" episode. It was just a "hard" episode.

Owe this sucked but it's not a low score episode

Warning: Spoilers
Owe this sucked but it's not a low score episode Like some are giving it - yes it was telegraphed that something horrible and stupid was going to happen but that was part of the point / it touched on making someone whole and all the emotions up to that from PTS & depression & loss of mission & purpose to a purpose & mission restored or renewed and then a random tragedy taking a life - leading to grief and sadness loss pain suffering - which sucks and then rallying around that loss totally setting up the next episode and for it to happen to a major character who people like and root for makes it more powerful.

Could have been handled differently
whiskey_charlie11 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Season 6 has been good thus far, and while Clay's story arc wasn't a big surprise, the writers could have given him a far better hero's end. Security guards may sometimes require the use of force to neutralize a possible threat, but I'm sure it isnt normally done execution style! Don't they have advisors for that sort of thing?! That entire scene was ridiculously shot! (pun unintended) Too bad because it could have been one of the higher rated episodes of the season. Otherwise, I especially liked that this season really fleshed out the team, particularly their flaws. Also hoping that the number of episodes are reduced. Less pointless fillers.

Of course they did

Warning: Spoilers
I guess I've gotten used to series like this jumping the shark. Think Ozark, for any of you who watched that series ending. Naturally we expected death throughout the series given what it is these men and women do. Hated losing Metal, but it happens. Spencer? Ridiculous. They had Clay overcome significant challenges and he got to the point where he'd finally found his niche and some peace with Ray's center for Vets. Then they introduce this veteran who was wound so tight you knew something bad was coming. But why kill Clay off that way? Better to have let him die on the battlefield. Writers chose this simply for some stupid shock and awe - or maybe to stick it to him for leaving the show. But congrats though, shark jumped.

terrible

Warning: Spoilers
No no.. lame af.. they should not have done him like that.

When clay lost his leg and he was strulling back home, i thought the writers were planning to make him commit suicide.. but then, after his talk with jason and him finding more rewarding going to the center.. i thought i was wrong..

but that scene with stella.. out of the blue clay asking her about moving and not wanting to be at green team anymore.. and then PTSD guy calling clay... i knew that was it for clay.. it was predictable.. I thought he was going to fight the guy and get shot by accident, well, he did get shot by accident but by a random security guy..

very disappointing end to one of my favorite characters of the show.

How could they be this stupid?
markg50013 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I honestly thought because they were leading us down a path in the storyline, the twist would be that Clay helped the vet and and tragedy was escaped. It was too obvious where this appeared to be heading. I saw shades of Chris Kyle and thought they wouldn't be that stupid. I was wrong. This didn't need to happen. Followers of the show are aware there won't likely be storybook endings, but you didn't need to do this to a beloved character after all he's been through. BAD move on not only the writers, but those who approved this. This has been an amazing series and you just lowered the standard epically.

Bonehead decision
HolycowHarry13 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Killing Clay was a boneheaded decision...totally not necessary! So many options to keep him alive for a possible future return...instead, the writing was not thought through.

Simply, he could 'retire' with his family and just move away then if 'Fire Country' doesn't succeed then Clay could return to the team! Clay did not need to lose a leg either...that could have been handled better. His operating was a highlight of every episode and especially his interaction with Sonny. Sadly, a stupid writing decision has ruined future episodes.

I have watched the series from day one and enjoyed every episode but this one left me sad and angry.

This show was supposed to be better than this
kpatt200612 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I gave them at least a 3 because of pretty cool scenes with helos involved, covert espionage, etc. A powerful scene dealing with PTSD. And then ruined the episode and actually the whole show with a horribly written end. I'm not sure we're going to watch anymore, unfortunately, after this one episode, that's how bad the writing was. I'm shocked someone greenlit the screenplay for this episode. I'd rather them have ended the entire show before airing something this stupid. It was already a very weak season since Clay was probably the best operator to watch work outside the wire. Sunny went from funny/goofy guy to brooding and upset all the time thanks to the Clay storyline. So, this season was already down 2 of the best characters. I feel like this was the nail in the coffin for the show. It had a good run, but maybe went on a little too long.

Horrible execution to an otherwise powerful scene.
fantasticuno9 November 2022
This season has so far been my least favorite, and I'm only staying on because it feels like the end is nigh and I've made it thus far and feel invested to certain characters. Clay being one of them, and the how and what happens was far too predictable or telegraphed in the earlier scenes. . Like a previous reviewer said, you could see it coming way too early in the episode. Probably what ruined an otherwise above average episode this season, instantly sinking it to one of the worst. Sadly, I'll keep tuning in but more than excited for this show to be finally be over. Based on how they treated the ending of this episode, I'm in for some serious disappointment from the series finale.

They had to take the easy way out, damn idiots
e8n27 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As soon as Clay got the message to help out the AF guy, I thought they might pull this kind of stupidity. Been done a million times before. Even before the call I thought they might pull a "Henry Blake". For those not aware, when McLean Stevenson left MASH, they killed off his character off camera and announced it while everybody was in the OR. What particularly bothers me about them killing off Clay was the way they did it. I did 24 years in the Air Force and started out as a cop. A civil service cop working security for the recruiting station, something I have NEVER heard of before, would know better than to just open fire because Clay had the gun in his hand. The gun was pointing down at the ground, not at the cop. He should have been commanded to drop the weapon. The ficticious civil service cop didn't even do that. That should be charges brought against the civil service cop. Not only was it bad enough killing Clay off, but the manner in which they did it smears all uniformed cops. And they never mentioned anything about charging the civil service cop in the following episodes! I didn't see season 6 until I bought the DVD, but I have already decided that I am done with this series. Way to go jerk producers and writers!

Disappointed
gprice-3031710 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Horrible ending for Clay's character; murdered by a security guard. I realize Max Theriot was leaving the show, but his character could have got a happy ending after all that he went through. They could have written that he and his family just moved away and lived full lives. After such a powerful scene for Clay to survive the battlefield, piecing his leg back together and staying in the fight only to be killed in a strip mall trying to save another vet from self-destruction. I know life's hard and hardly ever fair, but this is TV. They could have ended his character arc with some happiness instead of whatever that was.
