Season is off to a good start, but...

Writers really need to be mindful about the fact that laws vary from state to state. Montana does not have gun registration or gun licensing. It's annoying when writers just assume that every state has the same gun laws from where they live. It's a sign of laziness in their writing.

I'm really enjoying the addition of Jensen Ackles as the sheriff. It's almost like having Sheriff Dean Winchester, which is a good thing. He's added some much needed humor and charm to the series.

Reba. McEntire is also a great addition to the cast. Her character's story arc is definitely worth sticking around to watch.

I'm also enjoying where they're going with. Tonya (Jamie Lynn Sigler) and Donno's (Ryan O'Nan) characters.

Warning: Spoilers
They are not throwing a million things at us at 100 miles per hour like some shows do, but you know each week we're going to learn more and more and people who seem good will be bad and people who seem bad will be...you know the drill.

Still, I am intrigued so far by what I am seeing this season. There is the right balance of corporate overlords with traditional old school horror of a murderous camp retreat in the middle of the woods.

Big Sky has had some bumps along the road, but the show is a throwback to when dramas on broadcast networks were king. Hopefully they can continue building on the momentum this season.

A few times I'm taken out of the story by questions or have to rewind when the dialogue goes too fast (Why do they talk so fast? That's not true of the people I know from Montana.)

However, the writing and framing is so much better than last year, I'm not here to complain.

Reba as an addition apparently doubled the numbers. A brilliant move on the producers part, because she not only roped viewers in but she can act. Thus, making existing viewers sit up and take notice.

I'm loving Denise (DeDee Pfeiffer) and Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) as my fan favorites.

New add Jensen Ackles appeals to my Supernatural fandom past. (And, unlike the Boys, this show uses his acting to full advantage.)

This is a tough tv night to catch, so I'm appreciating streaming the show. May not actually log in to review out of sync with air dates, but will watch.

A nice, enjoyable cop show with cowboy overtones is a niche I love.

Season is off to a poor start

Warning: Spoilers
So right off the bat in S03E01 they dumped Lindor and Jerrie as characters - they're off chasing Scarlett from last season - and veer into a new storyline. There's a creepy dude in the woods who scares a clumsy hiker into falling off a cliff. Creepy dude's mom is Reba McEntire, who runs a "glamping" operation in one of the most uninteresting-looking locations in Montana. The only guest activities available appears to be tramping through the woods and getting lost, and looking for lost hikers.

Jenny seems to be the town bicycle, hooking up with whatever handsome random dude arrives each season. First season it was an old flame, Blake Kleinsasser. Season 2 it was undercover cop Travis. This season it appears to be the new town sheriff Beau Arlen. They haven't actually done anything yet but it seems to be heading that way.

Cassie is somehow able to afford the Bhullar drug cartel's ranch from last season, buying it through murderer/Realtor Tonya who has teamed up with murderer/chef Donno to open a restaurant. The new sheriff doesn't seem to care that they are criminals as long as they make a tasty sandwich.

This episode also starts a new plotline involving a corrupt aircraft company that fudged its flight testing results to conceal a deadly defect that could kill hundreds of passengers. The whistleblower who decided to expose the results winds up in town and is nearly kidnapped by a corrupt US Marshall who was supposed to put him in protective custody.

Meanwhile creepy son shows Reba the guy who fell off the cliff, who somehow is still alive even though he's been bleeding for SIX DAYS. Reba says it won't be long now and she has to protect her own son, and clumsy hiker obligingly expires seconds later.

Anyway it's a lame mess.
