I had never viewed this show, but was curious to see where host Roger Mooking was heading in Florida, a state to which I am thinking of relocating.
His first destination in the episode I caught was Loxahatchee, which, according to Wikipedia, is a rural neighbor of West Palm Beach.
Mooking is a winning host, full of vivid narration and commentary. We watch him dive into the mass-grilling of 36 black ranger chickens, reputedly a variety bursting with flavor. The spread that results, well, you just want to pull up a chair.
"I appreciate your skill, and attention to detail, and, of course, your passion for fire," Mooking tells the chef as he departs.
Next, our host heads north along the Atlantic to Jensen Beach, in the Port St. Lucie area. Here he meets a smokehouse owner with whom he whips up a hearty fish chowder. Again, the repartee of Mooking keeps things moving along. And the chowder looks great -- one bowl, enough for a meal.
Nice little discovery -- this show, yeah, but also out-of-the-way niches in the Sunshine State.
