A "breather" episode.
dsruss-770-9416295 January 2023
I've loved the show since it started and have been a fan of Taylor Sheridan's work for a while. However, sometimes the show can choke itself out with how much high drama it packs into an episode. To the point that it can lose the thread of what the show is about. Thankfully this episode, while touching lightly on the plot points the season is trying to move forward, takes a moment to embrace some of the humanity of the characters and the show's overall theme. Plus the gorgeous locations and scenery. This has been one of my favorites. And a tearjerker to boot. Died with his head on his saddle, staring up at the stars. 8/10.

"No such thing as dying of old age"
derschwart16 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
In season 2 episode 6 "blood the boy". John Sutton tells Tate after killing a deer that there's no such thing as dying of old age, that something comes to kill us all. Well here we are in season 5 with Dutton sleeping next to an old man on the trail that would die the fabled cowboys death... head in his saddle, gazing at the stars. For me that's what made this episode very memorable and interesting to watch. I know season 5 has been a little slow but somehow I think that the peaceful death porrrayed in this episode is one of the last ones we'll see for quite a while. Certainly won't be how John goes... old timer going means it passes John right by.

Beautiful episode
thu2212 December 2022
It was really nice to watch an episode that was rather detached from the as of late prevailing political theme.

We mostly ditch the mischievous plotting and scheming in favor of watching a day in the life of a cowboy.

We get to see what it really means to them and why they want to preserve this old way of life at any cost. It is in their blood and they would not feel alive any other way.

As someone born and raised in the city, in the recent years I started to appreciate the countryside a lot more. And as I find myself around the halfway point of my life, I realize that I should probably think more about the future and consider where and how I want to spend my final days before I have to leave this place.

This episode definitely puts things into a different perspective.

Redemption
ALH7513 December 2022
I don't write a lot of reviews. I felt the need to leave a bad review for the last, episode 5, so it's only right that I write a review for this episode 6.

We were shown the beauty of Montana through a cowboy's eyes, and it was indeed beautiful. Fantastic cinematography and gorgeous landscapes came through crystal clear. Better plot and dialogue combined with less Beth made this one a winner.

The heartache on the trail was sincere and well acted as was the follow up scene. It brought a tear to my eye without being the least bit sappy. A seemingly repetitive season brought some heart and redemption.

RE: Jamie Dutton.
Joke-box12 December 2022
I do love the show but it is getting ridiculous with Jamie out here. He has betrayed the family in any which way, and he is doing it again. I would not mind to see later that Jamie was just playing her (Sarah Atwood) and 'has changed'. So, let's wait and watch. But I don't know, I don't think the writers want to play it like that.

I hate Sarah Atwood but that is probably a good thing.

A filler not a thriller - this episode. A lot of scenes could be removed and ignored but the episode has a sentimental value to it and that I liked. The show has been slow this season for the most part, but it MUST regain the pace now if it wants to end in the perfect way.

Great cinematography, too.

Great looking melodrama
85122225 January 2023
Greetings from Lithuania.

6th episode of "Yellowstone" season 5 called "Cigarettes, Whiskey, a Meadow and You" was in total "melodrama mode" as it was all this season so far. But ill be damned if it didn't looked amazing. Acting was very good as usual. Cinematography is fabulous as always, and scenery is like no other. And while it plays like a melodrama which at this point it is, its a very fine one and entertaining on its own. The scenes do play out involving even if there is no action or tension and you kinda can't stop looking at them.

Overall, a slow episode as they all were in season 5 so far, but I was entertained by it.

Wish the show was more like this
grlym-4684915 December 2022
After 5 seasons...finally a solid episode. And shockingly a back ti back episode where Beth actually had character growth...and wasn't repulsive to listen or see.

If the show tracked more on this level, it would continue to get 8/10 instead of the 4's or 5's.

If the show grew more dynamic...like real consequences, Duttons don't always get their way easily...then maybe it would be 9/10

But I keep watching this pandemic show as a guilty pleasure to see where it goes. And along the way I get to watch the absolute gems of offshoot shows. I hope 1923 will shine like the 1883

I really have nothing left to say but fill the remaining 600 characters requirements.

Episode 506
bobcobb30117 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I remain incredibly confused about what the plan for Season 5 is because we're now in deep waters and abolutely nothing has happened. We know Jamie will build up this big plan and just get stopped by Beth before it gets going, the exact same dynamic we get every year here.

It was way too much of people sitting around and talking and riding and talking. And if I heard one more character utter the word "cowboy" again I was likely to bang my head against the wall.

Yellowstone has a tone and a style it has set that is easy to kick up my feet and watch every week, but I can't imagine there were people who loved this episode.

This Episode Was Perfect
chefblackstock13 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It is appropriate that the synopsis of this episode says that the ranch had an almost perfect day. This episode is as close to perfection as any episode of any TV show I have ever watched.

*Spoiler* Even the death of Emmett served to add to the unreal beauty of this episode.

John Dutton finds his old friend has passed away on the trail, and gives him a eulogy befitting a true cowboy. The smile John gives as he talks about Emmett passing away the way every cowboy dreams of took a grave moment and injected heart into it. Rip gave Beth her perfect moment in the meadow, which does serve to add to the looming fear that Beth will not survive this season, but this foreshadowing never takes you out of the story.

Summer learns what the Dutton Ranch really means to the family, Carter dances for the first time. All of these are high points on their own, yet paced amazingly well within one episode.

What could possibly wrap all of this up to achieve perfect episode status? The visuals. Montana is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and we are treated to the state at is most stunning.

Any young man who grew up wanting to be a cowboy and go on a cattle drive will find that dream reborn once they watch this perfect piece of Americana Western fiction.

Costner for President!
quockquock12 December 2022
I take back most of my negative comments of this show. John Dutton's (Kevin Coster's) line in this episode, "I have nothing to say to that idiot" is the greatest line I've heard all year. With all the pro Democratic rhetoric on television from the major networks, what a breath of fresh and TRUE air! Keep up the good work Costner, speak your mind and the truth. In case you missed it, Dutton was referring to Sleepy Joe B. I loved it! As far as the rest of the episode goes, not bad, nice scenery on the round up, they should do a little more of the ranch and less outside of the Yellowstone Ranch!!

Idiotic Depiction of Secret Service
jsi-222 January 2024
I've been loving this show until this episode. I'm retired Federal law enforcement, and the depiction of the Secret Service coming to the rez in Black Hawks, in preparation for a presidential visit, all swatted up, shooting the residents' dogs just because they were running loose is SO stupid. I know Taylor Sheridan was trying to create drama with that, but at least try to give it a smidge of realism. The Secret Service is notorious for going out of its way to NOT needlessly antagonize local officials with heavy handed moves, because it relies so much on their cooperation and commitment of manpower to accomplish its mission. Hire a damn technical consultant, for Christ's sake.

The perfect episode
Cax01927 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is absolutely perfect tv. There are no stakes or high paced drama we have come to know and admittedly love from this show. But a beautiful view of Montana through a cowboys eyes. Even the death of Emmet somehow makes this episode even more endearing, how people are trying to bash this episode for being boring is beyond me. It's a welcome breather from the furiocity of the season so far, I have enjoyed the season as a whole and this is such a great way to give us a little insight into why John is so damn stubborn. It shows us why he is fighting so hard to preserve the ranch and all of the beauty it can offer.

Honestly who is giving these episodes 8/10???
BruceWayne312 December 2022
These ratings are given by people who have no clue what they are talking about. This season is not even close to a 8/10. This season is flat and the storylines are boring.

In this episode:

Beth gets off her horse and is in awe of the view of the mountains It's the same view she gets from her mansion of the mountains So silly, come on, it's like like she went to a whole new state

Jamie seems to be trying to come up with a way to get back at his family

There's 1-2 storylines in each hour episode now And those storylines are not worth me watching for a hour

Someone call the writers from season 1-2.

Why?
kirbie218221 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was so bored by this episode & I feel like all the storylines are just repeating itself over & over again. Also, why does IMDB make this character count now? I mean when an episode is just bad, and you want to let others know you really don't need to write a novel about it. Obviously, I've always loved Yellowstone but this episode was a new low. It was so ridiculous about all of that preaching constantly and then all of the characters basically doing nothing and then just talking nonsense the entire episode it was like oh my God is anything gonna happen the old man died who cared like blah, blah, blah nothing good.

Not the dogs!
carimyers12 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Taylor. Quit killing dogs in your shows! It's unnecessary. The bad guys are just as bad without that. Honestly it makes me want to stop watching. Besides that, great as always. We think Beth is very mean, as Rip points out, but only to people who are in positions of power in some way, or people who have been unnecessarily cruel or abusive. To the bartenders, truck drivers, valets, mechanics, ranch hands, clerks and wait staff, she's charming and generous. The characters in this are full and colorful, and the scenery is always captured with a loving eye. Taylor tells a good story- just leave the poor dogs alone.

ThE PresIDEnt wiLL mURDer yoUR DoG!!!
sgiles-415 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Some other reviewers have mentioned YS potentially "jumping the shark" this season. Well, in my humble opinion it's already happened.

Each episode has Beth doing something so incredibly bonkers that her family would consider putting her on a 5150 hold. The main star of the show now comes across as an bumbling fool. Other cast member story arcs have become so tedious slow that I've started hoping for something terrible to happen to them just to move the plot along.

Lastly, the Secret Service came to the The Res prior to the POTUS visit, so they started shooting all of the dogs in town. The SHARK HAS BEEN JUMPED!!!

Sad YS devolved into such a goofy soap opera.

Cringe and Ranching
namikazedante19 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Loved all the scenes on horseback but I am just so sick of Monica. Her seens are so cringe. She is so freaking arrogant it is just lame. So she is all knowing now? She knows best? It didn't make any sense at all for her to stay at the ranch while her son and husband rode off. But then again her car crash is in the likes of the walking dead with Laurie when she crash and flips the car on a open road with no cars.

I've had a blind eye to the writing but it is noticeable more and more how the characters are getting more and more stupid. The right thing to happen is for Betch to just fall off her horse and break her neck. I mean she is someone who really need to be put in jail.

I am glad Kevin Costner went to work on his movie instead of this because this show has been done for a while. The story for each character just gets more and more ridiculous. Like Jamie. So instead of telling someone that Beth has hold him on gunpoint and threatening to send cowboys to kill him... he kills his father? And the adoption narrative is something that I still don't believe because I think that is something the writers came up with because they had nothing more to do with Jamie.

No this show is done and I am gonna torture myself to finish the last two episodes and never watch this again.
