Yahiko, or Yoshi, as he is known in the English dub, courageously wants to protect someone from the same brutality he experienced when he was forced to steal. I can't agree with Kenshin permitting a child to be brutally beaten in order to avoid hurting his pride. He should have stepped in. That said, allowing Yahiko to (mostly) finish the last fight on his own was perfect.
