Some funny moments

Warning: Spoilers
I try to tell myself that the show has always had shameless guest stars but I can't see past the happy little elf's voice being Lizzo...The idea that Marge has been getting money all this time is interesting but opens a whole hell of a lot of plot holes. Not that the show has ever been beholden to logic- but. One line from the elves or whatever singing got a slight chuckle from me but the rest is typical modern Simpsons. Just alright. This season has been kind of a rough one for me personally but this homer-centric episode is probably the best one to have gone out on. A simple premise to wave goodbye for another several months on.

What the hell happened to the Simpsons?
kuner-5902923 May 2023
I was bedridden with covid and looking for some easy fast food for the brain type entertainment. I still love the old Simpsons, and every now and then against my better judgement I check out an episode in hopes that there may be even just one moment that recaptures the magic. But wow, was I wrong.

It's unfathomable how the once funniest show on TV has become such an absolute snoozefest. There's barely any plot anymore, it's just a series of events and cutaways which are less coherent than an AI written story. There is absolutely no substance here anymore. Homer has a road rage induced car accident (just about the only thing in character) and goes through a series of hallucinations that show him that he shouldnt be angry at Marge because he's really just a big buffoon. He is told this by a rap song that repeatedly uses the word b1t ch for some reason. I don't mind vulgarity, but I mind it when it's stupid. Dan Castellata sings along, and his voice keeps breaking. It's a phoned in performance. No one here cares what they're doing.

None of this even feels like the Simpsons anymore. The obligatory characters show up for their tired old gags. Martin is still a nerd, Nelson does his Ha-Ha thing, Ralph says something stupid. These things used to play into the stories, but now it's just cut and paste to pad the runtime. It's not just lazy and cynical, it also desecrates the memory of what was once a great show. This was disgusting.

Terrible season finale
midnightcub15 July 2023
A few seasons ago Simpsons went from mildly repetitive yet comfortably reliable to absolute garbage. Surprisingly there last couple seasons were a vast improvement I actually, foolishly, got optimistic. I should've known better I guess they had to hit their woke/diversity garbage lack of talent. Reasonably I can't give it a one because there are some great jokes just horribly few and buried under refuse. The intro was fantastic as well. Wish I could watch it in slow mo to catch more of the cameos.

FYI hell isn't real and if it were it wouldn't be populated or emptied by today's standards. But I don't expect today's "writers" to understand competence. I never wanted this show to end.... But now....

Does NOT deserve all the hate

Warning: Spoilers
This was my favorite episode in all of season 34! I love the concept of expanding a 30 second moment in time to 22 minutes. I love Lizzo, and the behind the scenes look was a great season closer. I loved that Lizzo, Lisa, Bart and Homer were jamming together. And to babdulbaki, Lizzo's thing is saying the "B-word." I'm sorry your antiquated views on swearing prevented you from enjoying this episode.

I loved the idea of getting 750 characters into the intro. It was nice to have a full intro, they haven't done that in a while. Now I see why! It must have taken a long time to animate that. However, there was a least one character repeated. I went back and paused many times, and I saw Joan Rivers was definitely repeated. There could have been some other people repeated too. I wonder why they didn't put more characters in the field in the town square near the statue. It would've made them easier to see. Some frames moved so fast that you can't tell who is in them when you pause because they are blurred. That takes some of the fun out of it.

I recently watched some fan videos about best/worst Simpsons episodes. The common least favorite was the one with Lady Gaga. Fans complained that Gaga's appearance was gratuitous and lead to no character development. The writers made sure for this episode that Homer had an epiphany about his relationship, via Goobie-Woo's (Lizzo's) counseling.

Overall, this episode is not as bad as people are complaining.

Rubbish. Unbridled. Catastrophic. Rubbish

Warning: Spoilers
The whole episode is angry homer crashing through the windshield in slow motion after learning Marge kept an inheritance from her father from him.

Because we know altruistic selfless marge the ending is as predictable as they come. She was using the money to clean up homer's messes.

There is a stupid talking doll like the alien from Flintstones. Homer sort of talks to it, manifestations of his kids and the devil and whatnot.

This is Deeply unfunny. It's miraculous how terrible this is from a writing and directing standpoint. I sat there and watched this torture. I can't imagine who would fine this clever or funny or creative. I just can't imagine.

The Simpsons has declined we know that. And I've been forgiving of that because hey not everything can be season 2 to 7. But there have been a couple highlights over the last 3 years. But this? Is embarrassing. The only joke I laughed at was who goes to heaven and hell now. And that was just a smile. It wasn't edgy enough. Please stop this. This Is beyond the pale. Please try harder or stop this.

Good episode
emelb18 June 2023
This is actually a good episode, something creative and different from the usual format. I found it visually entertaining, funny and, contrary to what some other reviewers have said, it included classic Simpsons elements. The Simpsons often had the characters facing a moral dilemma, or a process of developing insight into themselves and others; it also often had some shock value to the humour. I agree it is presented differently now, but it has been over 30 years, that is inevitable. I understand some people might be uncomfortable with the language, but it hardly means the whole episode has nothing going for it. I feel this episode has rewatch value and adds to the Simpsons story. I love the early episodes, but grateful the team can still make some good ones and keep this show going :)

Certainly one of the more awful episodes I've seen
ElizaWasHere83216 November 2023
I was very excited for this season finale. I was expecting something great and memorable. However, this episode is memorable, and I must say it is for the wrong reasons. The episode started off quite good, but the rest of it was sad. People say that modern Simpsons is absolute rubbish, and while I do disagree, this episode was quite disastrous. It's one of the few episodes where it is nearly hard to watch through. I liked the Intro sequence where they fit a lot of characters into the opening and I can tell the animators put a lot of effort into it. But I wasn't big about the whole elf thing. Lizzo isn't a great elf. And there was swearing to where I could hardly listen. I nearly changed the channel, and that has only happened probably once or twice before with the simpsons. But the other episodes in this season are good to watch, dont let this episode ruin your taste of the simpsons in general.

Really?

Warning: Spoilers
This is how you end a season?

Unnecessary swearing. It would have been great without all the swearing from Lizzo. This wasn't a simpsons episode. It felt like South Park or family guy with the unnecessary swearing. Ruined the whole episode. I am scared for the legacy of the simpsons if this is the episode quality there producing for the fans that have watched this show there whole life. I'm disgusted Disney allowed that trash on there platform. It should not have been an episode. The character references were great and a nice way to thank fans for 750 episodes but I really think Disney need to step in and fix this before it gets worse.

2 stars should really be 1
diversesvada24 May 2023
I gave it 2 stars because finally they did an intro again. 750th show, so it will now be 250 shows until the next one. Guess they cost money. Besides that nothing good to say about the episode. It was not funny. It's now a comedy show that's all about teaching us how to be good people.

Not being American I'd never heard of Lizzo. Her part in this episode was so in your face that she got to be super happy. But from the best show in any category on TV, in my eyes, to this.

750 episodes, going down slowly. I was a huge fan since the beginning. Now watching it feels like a total waste of time. I must say that the people giving this episode 10 stars either have a really low standard for their comedies, or they're paid bots. If this is worth 10 stars, then what is worth 1?

Terrible Episode
babdulbaki27 May 2023
It started out as funny, but then they started using the female version of dog as an insult over and over again in songs, among other unnecessary rude words. What a terrible decline in public television.

The B-word's use in public television started with the Simpsons many years ago when Bart's dog, Santa's Little Helper, got himself a girlfriend and Bart called her that, which Marge told him not to say and Bart repeated saying that's what she is. However, the use of it as an insult is what degraded public television and many other insults became public domain thanks to the FCC's lack of control.

This episode marked the 750th episode of the Simpsons and had many characters in the opening sequence that we haven't seen in a while. It was a fun sequence to repeat and pause to see all the characters that were snuck in. However, once more, calling Homer, and eventually the audience, the B-word is what made it lose its fun appeal.

Better luck next time!

WORST! EPISODE! EVER!
sh-0307423 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Sorry I'm not being critical or harsh or anything. This is in fact the worst episode in the simpson history. It's an epic failure.

I love the opening credit to celebrate the 750th episode and having 750 characters (well i didn't count). The opening couch gag really gave me high hopes but turns out to be such a disappointment.

The plot is some cliche Homer epiphany journey in a blink of an eye but relapsed into a whole episode. I love Lizzo and her voice brought a bright touch to this episode. This episode would have made so much more sense if it was a early simpson episode.

Refereing to the famous study of 'Jerkass Homer is dead', the homer which has zero responsibility is now long gone. The production team just treats Homer as a complete moron. He showed up with a chip that looks like a celebrity and wanted to convince the staff for a safe account. If you remember back then Marge's aunt left her celebrity chips and Homer ate all of them when the her will was being read. It's never gonna happen that Homer is able to keep the chips all the way from one place to another.

Also Marge having extra income and hidden from Homer? Treehouse of horror Marge and Homer working as professional assasin. Homer's rage was reasonable but also stupid. Married for 10 yrs ( at least in the episode), Homer still has no idea to deal with marriage issues. Duh. We saw him growing so much in the past few seasons and now this?

The grand reveal hurts me so much. Marge is always the one devoting and sacrificing and it's just miserable to watch her heart broken. I couldn't help question myself when watching the episode, why is she stil with Homer? All those years we gradually accept the fact that Homer is growing into a responsible bread earner of the family but this broke everything.

Ralph is also creepy in this episode. You could say there are some conspiracy theories cooking in the back when Ralph literally said 'You died, went hell. Ralph knows everything' What was that supposed to mean?

Heads up to Lizzo, love her voice as the elf. Also the behind the scen recording studio scene is hillarious. Love to see Lisa jam with Lizzo along side Bart slapping Homer.

Overall, 1 star.

Gross gross gross
brydie-9227014 September 2023
I loved the Simpsons growing up in the 80's/90's. I would wait with anticipation for 6pm Sunday nights for the new episodes. Now my kids watch it and they love it too, but we are all in agreeance that some of the new episodes are too reliant on celebrity cameos, such as the rapper in this ep, who is using the "B" word over and over! Really cheapens the show. My kids and I stopped watching at the rap scene so we don't know the rest. Can't an elf act like an elf? Why does she have to be a celeb rapper?? Breaks the immersion & mystique of the story. It was just way to cringe. Pity, because the plot about Marge and the money was intriguing at the start.

It's one thing for me to say that the earlier seasons are better, because they are probably partially coloured with childhood nostalgia, but when my 3 kids also agree wholeheartedly that the 90's episodes are the best, then that is saying something. It was them that told me how bad the new ones are, and turned on Disney+ to demonstrate.

Not well balanced
ericwatkinson15 November 2023
The one-liners which are supposed to promote laughs in this particular episode are way off the mark, and for the most part, the humor in this episode usually ends up being a bit more disturbing and annoying than it is actually funny. Sure, the 1992 episode titled, "Homer's Triple Bypass" poked fun at someone having a medical emergency, but the graphic nature of that particular episode was off set by more than enough humorous dialog and sight gags to make the whole thing worthwhile.

However, Homer's Adventure Through the Windshield Glass doesn't have anywhere near enough well rounded humor to off set its lazy raunchiness, and one has to wonder how projects like this get green lit in the first place. Additionally, the constant use of vulgar profanity used by one of Maggie's favorite dolls might be unsettling to some younger viewers.

It used to that a viewer could turn into the Simpsons and expect to be entertained by a story line which someone had put a lot of effort into. However, with this particular episode, it would seems that comedy and entertainment have now taken a back seat to other ideals.

Bad, disappointed, uncomfortable
i-96425-0560925 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Homer is not stupid. Why should I write him so poorly now? Why? Why? Homer clearly demonstrated his musical talent in the first episode of the Simpsons' fifth season. Homer also proved his ideas in Season 4, Episode 3 of the Simpsons, knowing that his ideas are not outdated and advanced. The plot presented in this episode is really terrible. Homer at the Simpsons Season 8 Episode 2: Homer has a great job and enjoys it very much. But the family said they wanted to go back to Homer in Springfield, and they were forced to give up because they didn't like it. Why? Why? I really want to know why, why do we have to write Homer so poorly now? The previous plot was very well written. In episode 9 of season 19, Homer's experience is already very complete. Why deny it now? Why?

This could have been a good episode!
stuart_jarman26 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The concept of this episode means that they could have done anything but instead they have a crap song by Lizzo!

There is so much more they could and should have done with this as time moved slowly and when it started I thought this could have been a really good episode, much like the Fargo episodes from last season. But instead it transcended into a crappy rap fest with a rubbish song and just another vehicle to promote the career of Lizzo. I know this series can sell out but take Lizzo out of it and you definitely do have the makings of a good episode.

I know they don't make them like they used to but this series has not been too bad but let sown by an awful series finale.

Just a shame I can't unwatch this!
