Tragic story about the life of motorcycle riders in the 70s

Warning: Spoilers
Well told story about the life of Jarno Saarinen and his wife Soili. It shows a journey from the grassroots of racing to the top categories, but at the same time tells about how fragile and dangerous that time was to race motorcycles. Production wise, its a real mashup of nationalities which is proven by the multiple cultures and represented, especially finnish culture. Racing scenes look real, logical and exciting which are paced well between the drama scenes with the characters. The series also has the honesty to tell about the dangers and doesnt romatizise the sport too much. At the time, motorcycle racing was in a tough place but after the accident of Saarinen, the safety went to a better direction. While it mainly focuses on racing, the characters come up strongly with their own struggles and issues which is shown well in the love story of Jarno and Soili. All these facts make it possibly the best racing movie/TV-show I have ever seen.

Jarno ja minä" is a Finnish TV series released in 2024, depicting the life of legendary Finnish motorcycle racer Jarno Saarinen. The series explores Saarinen's rise to fame in the early 1970s, a period marked by high-risk racing and the possibility for amateurs to compete at the highest levels of the sport. The show also focuses on his deep personal relationship with his wife, Soili, who played a crucial role in his career as his mechanic and support system.

Jarno Saarinen, known for his exceptional talent and fearless racing style, tragically died at the age of 27 during a race in Monza in 1973. Despite his short career, he left an indelible mark on the world of motorcycle racing.

The series is not only a biographical recounting of his career but also a heartfelt portrayal of his personal life and the romantic and professional partnership with his wife.

The production of "Jarno ja minä" involved filming in various locations across Europe, including Finland, Italy, Croatia, and Slovenia, reflecting the international nature of Saarinen's career. The series features a diverse cast, with Tom Rejström playing Jarno and Saana Koivisto as Soili. The involvement of Saarinen's widow, Soili Karme, in the series' production ensured that the portrayal remained authentic and respectful to their real-life story.

For those interested in motorsport history and touching human stories, "Jarno ja minä" offers a compelling narrative that combines thrilling racing sequences with a poignant love story

Possibly one of the best racing shots of all time. Would need to be distributed in f.ex. Netflix.
