When some ghost hunters are searching a slaughterhouse where seven boys were tortured and killed, twenty years in the past, on of them is killed and hung up on a meat hook. This is one of those episodes where people begin to doubt their science and gravitate toward the supernatural. The ghost hunters are absolutely obsessed with the reality of this. But when one has a real stake in things like this, it is possible to create what you want. Greg reveals something about himself that he has kept a secret. Clever, creative episode.

Three ghost hunters seek out the ghost of the serial-killer Walter Simms in a meat processing plant where he killed seven boys twenty years ago. Walter was the security guard and was killed by the police in the facility. One of them, Doug Lasky, brings a knife identical to the one used by Walter to the slaughterhouse where Walter killed his victims to summon his ghost. Out of the blue, Doug screams and when his partners arrive at the spot, they find him strung up on one of the meat hooks and cut like the other victims of Walter Simms. The CSIs process the crime scene and not that the knife is missing. Further, the memory card of Doug's camera is also missing. The ghost hunter Carrie Sinclair tells Morgan that she felt uncomfortable inside the facility and she believes it was a presence. Brass talks to Thomas Pope, who is the manager of the facility, and he says that the ghost hunters signed several liabilities to have the permission to film in the location. Dr. Robbins says that the murder is identical to the original crimes and the reports are classified since the victims were boys. They force the ghost hunter Owen Webber to return the memory card and Greg and Morgan find a shrine made to the victims in the facility. But they have no clue of who killed Doug and Greg is reluctant to believe in the supernatural.

"Ghost of the Past" is an intriguing episode of "CSI". The dispute between supernatural and science is won by the latter and all the mysterious events are solved by the CSIs. The conclusion is funny, with Greg's amulet inside his locker. The solution of the children's laughs is creative and helps to resolve the case. My vote is seven.
