Cymbaline a really interesting film
dreist17 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Roger Fratter after the last two films made on behalf of an external production (In love with death and Mimesis), and returns to self (relying for which a budget definitely much more content) with an important change: change (almost complete ) log of what has been previously produced, in fact, this sudden change will not escape some of those viewers like me who from the first film later this brave and competent director. In sincerity given the novelty during and after the end of the Cymbaline vision I felt confused and lost, (nothing bad to say of course), it is made, structured, acted and directed as always impeccably and meticulous, but being accustomed on closer "other", I can not deny that such a lack of violence, raw scenes or mystery are felt, but in the end I consider it valid this film and have seen it I is not sorry at all, with all that maybe are not a big fan of that cinematic dream and metaphorical sixties of which this film is based. I was also committing the mistake of underestimating, not suspect that this film products actually hid some interesting ideas and some aesthetic and convincing narrative solutions, but I must admit that the film takes off quite late, so I upped to almost half of the film . The cover of the film he says it all "Cymbaline, the most controversial film of Roger A. Fratter, Hallucinogen, psychological, psychedelic. Without being wordy and spending just a few lines about the plot I can only say that everything revolves around the figure of a young boy who has a passion for graffiti and for photography, and who is attracted and seduced by three very different women and that psychologically I have a great influence and that thanks to a fourth woman (who symbolizes freedom), manage to not give in to forced dogmas imposed by society today and at the same time will lead him to a personal inner growth. We have strong ingredients and realistic in this work, drugs, sex, psychedelic and pounding music, criticism against the company ... In short everything and more, and wanting to mention the mystery and violence context while being a very different film from what the director made previously, "something" still there, in the first case the identity of the mysterious fourth woman, while in the second case, a pistol clearly inspired by the old spaghetti westerns of the past ... in my opinion one of the most beautiful scenes and symbolic of Cymbaline. Here, as mentioned previously Fratter Roger has done everything to make a film rich in symbolism, references, hidden meanings that are not always intuitive, though usually the director of this film will always recommend a second viewing, in this case the thing is virtually obligation as it has a complex and quite analytical framework, and certain scenes I found sealed. Nothing overdone means but it is a film that must be studied and understood, and not exaggerating when I say that we can catalog it in the "art house" circle. I've watched twice in the past two days to try to understand as much as possible, certainly compared to the first run me many things were more clear but inevitably something always escapes. I loved and appreciated the dialogue, rich in meaning and perfectly in line with the context, an educated and intelligent language is indeed used, especially in the scenes in which the hero confronts his three judges who symbolize the aforementioned companies. Even the title I found it spot on, Cymbaline, that not only is the (above) the name of the protagonist, but that refers to one of the most famous song by Pink Floyd and this is felt even more the atmosphere of the sixties film . Analyzing the actors, there are as it should be good and interesting new entry (including a spectacular Susan Semmunegus), but also a recycling of actors seen before with only difference that here they have very large parts and thick, and are excel Omar Shanay in the boy protagonist and the beautiful and well inserted Vera Wright who delights us with a scene of lightweight soft core and highlights with ease and naturalness the role of a rich and spoiled girl unscrupulous. Of note is the presence as an actor of the director himself, who plays an obnoxious drug supplier, the figure is not trivial because the hallucinogenic side of the story starts from him. Of the setting here, and then, as usual, nothing is left to chance, in fact, given the nature of the film this time everything is more particular and unpublished, and are used in some scenes of unusual shades of color and ... .psichedeliche. The end from this point of view it is right to say it, is considered disturbing, and here I make a compliment to the director, it is not for everyone! In conclusion I liked this film? Yes, maybe I can not count among my favorite of the director Roger Fratter but the fact remains that a great film thickness achieved with abundance. Based on reviews read on the internet, many say it is one of the best films of the director, I simply say: One of the best tests of the director.
