Far too "Detroit-centric"
stevensoncts8 April 2018
For a pictorial documentary whose goal is to highlight the State of Michigan, there are many surprising omissions.

No mention of Michigan's nearly 200 waterfalls, including Tahquamenon Falls - one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi river.

No images of the soaring bluffs of Pictured Rocks along Lake Superior.

Ignoring the Soo Locks, which revolutionized shipping along the Great Lakes.

Failing to spotlight the beautiful Traverse City bay, or even include a shot of the most iconic Michigan lighthouse on a lonely rock outpost on Lake Superior.

Instead producers focused an extended shot of a barren concrete intersection where the Detroit riots started nearly 50 years ago, and extended shots of Detroit's famous "ruin porn" locations. Where were the shots of Belle Isle...the island in the Detroit River, recently refurbished and site of the annual Detroit Grand Prix? Perhaps the film makers were on a tight budget, or perhaps they were just too lazy to properly research sites that would have made for a much more interesting visual presentation of the State of Michigan.

Nothing was said in the documentary that wasn't factually accurate...but as any Michigander will tell you, there is so much more to Michigan than Detroit.
