City lost in transition and people in dilemma
ridi-arahan8 February 2021
What worked: The use of real life shots added an extra flavor to the movie especially the wide shots of Jatra. The movie marks the directorial step of Dixit which in itself is a challenging part as we are used to see him as an actor. It's a movie with some sub-layered narrative, telling the story of some complex characters. The background score stood out ,followed by the visuals. It's bold of choosing such a project and for that Dixit deserves an appreciation What did not work: For me, the dialogues were cliche and unnatural which is something I despise in a movie. The use of cliche social situations and overly dramatic social setting made the movie more of a sequential affair rather than an elaborate narrative focused on the depth and the study of the characters. As a result, it failed. I think the essence of the movie is somewhere lost in between making it a movie with head but not the heart. I would have loved it if the movie was better written, edited and executed as a whole. Final verdict: watch it for the experiment

A good watch

I never heard the name of this film before. It came on theatres in 2014 and was released on YouTube a month earlier. The frequency of this film coincided with the natural frequency of thirst for film thus causing resonance. My heart beat with maximum amplitude after watching this film. In order to show the bitter truths of Nepali society on screen, this film portrays the attitude of abusive fathers, cowardly husbands, women of the society who have no hand in the so-called situation, discrimination, rape, rebellion etc. through a simple story. The presentation is commendable. Good films are made in Nepal but Nepali audiences cannot recognize them. This fact is confirmed by the fact that a total of 4,000 views have been received on YouTube in a single month. Let's love such films that can't even reach the level of business production.
