This just did not work. They tried to go too far over the top, almost to a Fawlty Towers level, of mapping out a dinner and then having a variety of hijinx happen, but it did not work. A lot of the gags flopped and it became too absurd for my liking.
As someone who does not like Lord of the Rings, that whole element missed the mark for me as well. There were parts I laughed at, but I know American Dad can do so much better than this. I do admire them giving us something that felt a little different in tone from most weeks, but this is not going to convince TBS to finally start renewing some scripted programs.
