I'm in the group that is enjoying the character Elsbeth.

I enjoyed watching this episode originally, and I even savoured watching the rerun. The character Elsbeth takes a little getting used to, but as the series progresses I think you either hate her quirky character or grow to appreciate it. I'm in the latter camp. I like the light-hearted tone of the show and, even more, the fact that they seem to stay away from modern, divisive politics. Of course, anything to do with the police in New York is going to be far from reality, but if you accept that, it's fine. Also unreal is the overly diverse casting, but hollywood has made such casting absolutely mandatory these days. My response has been to watch very little network TV (& reading more!), and this is coming from someone who was once a dedicated viewer who subscribed to TV Guide and read it cover to cover! But this show works for me.

Warning: Spoilers
Okay there was a huge plot screw up. At the end when Elsbeth stated the Fisherman went back to were the body was found and used a magnet to pick up the murder weapon, this would never happen because the statue was made of brass. Brass is a non-ferrous metal, meaning it does not contain iron. Since iron is the most magnetic metal, any material containing iron will be attracted to a magnet.

I don't hate the series but someone should have caught that. I can't image how sloppy the writers are if they don't do simple research like that.

I do hope they are better with the rest of the episodes. Hmm.

Warning: Spoilers
We went from one bad sitcom actor in Jesse Tyler Ferguson last week to another one in Retta this week, but I didn't mind this episode at all. Having someone like her actually be the bad guy and the killer, and not the stuck-up privileged woman was a refreshing change of pace.

Overall I am definitely starting to really enjoy Elsbeth. Just like when The Good Wife was one of the few good broadcast dramas on TV, now Elsbeth is one of the few good ones left too. I am not crazy about her always getting the right target from the get-go, but I have to admit I am not bored yet by how the concept has been playing out.
