I have come to now accept what this show is going to be. It's not going to be as grounded or mature as I hoped, it's got a lighthearted side that i'm not sure even Flash has at it's lightest. That's all good and dandy, but the show still has to write well developed characters. They still have to create a quality show to keep my interest, and right now, that's lacking. Again, I don't think Supergirl is a bad show as of now, it's just not all that interesting.
One of the main issues that a lot of people have had with the show is its constant reliance on the name drop of Superman. While that has definitely been warranted, I think this episode explained a lot as to how he will be used in this show. His name is just to be used as a plot device like this episode did. Like it or not, that's just what the show is. But I do believe the arc of this episode was to try and show Kara's hope for dependence from her big cousin, so I wouldn't be shocked if his presence in the show is significantly toned down.
Speaking of tone, I think all of the character's annoying quirks were toned down this episode, even the still obnoxious Cat Grant. They also did a strange thing which is make Jimmy Olsen a bit more unlikable and try to make us feel sympathy for Winn. I don't particularly care about the romances on this show, but I thought Olsen was one of the only redeemable qualities so that was a bit disappointing.
The villain of the week was reactron who didn't get much development but he was really just there to show that Kara can apparently take down someone that Superman can't. The ending moment with Kara instant messaging Clark was sweet, but I didn't really believe Superman couldn't take him down. No part of him seemed 'unstoppable'. So in all, the episode really suffered from bad writing. The jokes fall flat and I don't really see where the show is going. But it's not a bad episode because nobody annoyed me like the first two weeks. It's just not all that interesting.
+Possible closure with the Superman references
-Weak writing
