Good Concept Teen Comedy
catheraneskillen13 February 2022
I'm not the best audience for a teen comedy, so read the review with this in mind. This film starts with a great idea, very much a concern in many households today, the total attention to electronics to the exclusion of everything else. Parents impose a 30 day moratorium on their 5 teens...no internet, no phones, etc. This could be a nice family film that might make youngsters think about relying more on personal interaction, tho some of the language might need to be adjusted for the younger crowd. Nehemiah Deason did a nice job as Bentley. The dialogue, exposition and scenes could use trimming with instead more visual communication between the actors. Less is more.

OK premise spoiled by poor acting and script
smoratti17 March 2021
Lots of good reviews here. However couldnt really recommend. The adult actors let it down, script and direction were stilted or unrealistic. The background music often didnt really work. However it was a worthwhile attempt -and did pretty well for the low budget.

Worth a Watch!
DonSwanson5 December 2020
This is a really thoughtful film with some genuinely touching moments and relatable characters and situations, and you'll grow to like all 5 of the characters... especially Normandy. Definitely worth checking out if you get the chance!

Lazy Is Its Middle Name
niaz_islam25 July 2020
To sum up the entire movie one one word will be enough and that is 'lazy'.

The writing was lazy, their wardrobe were lazy, makeup was lazy, location scouting was lazy, camera shots were lazy, and also the main characters were lazy with their expression and dialogue delivery. Not only the timing of their dialogues are off, but also the editing was terrible. They repeated the same shot over and over to fill up story gaps. The storyline leaves out the main theme of the struggle of the absence of digital device throughout the movie and focus on the forced friendship between five teenagers.

Even Not Recommended For The Lazies.

Terrific Indie Film
craigahrens30 October 2020
Normandy Is My Name is such a fun film! My wife and I enjoyed it a lot (and that is saying a lot for my wife)! We like supporting indie films but you often times can find a dud. But not this time! We thoroughly enjoyed this little gem from beginning to end. We liked the story, the acting and directing. The film moved along at a good pace. Bravo to all who helped to make this film. Two thumbs up from my wife and myself!!

Great family comedy that brings to light the importance of putting down technology to connect in a deeper way with family and friends.
MelissaMcGinnis19 August 2015
This film takes you on a journey with 5 very different teens, a jock, a rocker, a nerd, a cheerleader, and an outspoken teen named Normandy who are forced my their parents to connect the old fashion way...without electronics for 30 days and attend a mandatory weekly get together. There are plenty of antics and laughs to be had as you see the teens stumble through the adjustment. Will boredom rain or will the teenagers discover a hidden truth about life and the value in our human connection and shared experience? Normandy is My Name is a hilarious and heartwarming film with an essence of Juno mixed with a Napoleon Dynamite flare.

Relevant, quirky indie film worth a watch
tonyamskoog17 December 2020
Very relevant message as we all seem to be addicted to technology these days. Cory Cole was great in the role of Normandy, connecting verbal punches like a boxer in the ring, contrasting the loving and fun scenes with her grandmother. All the young actors work well together and delivered some laugh out loud moments.

So much fun and laughter with an uplifting ending
kathyrussell11 October 2020
This is a cute independent film that provides a wonderful escape. There's some college humor but it fits with the main character as she's such an independent, opinionated, wicked sense of humor and intelligent young lady - reminds me of Juno. If you're looking for some fun and talented young actors then this won't disappoint.

A Fun Charming Ensemble Comedy
julianbaner19 December 2020
What happens when a group of parents decide to give their teenage children a digital detox? It's a fun concept resulting in lots of laughs while injecting an endearing social commentary. The film does a great job of distinguishing its colorful cast of characters and giving all of them their own unique flavor. Plus, it's not afraid to take some bold stylistic choices that aid the comedy and quirky story-telling.

So much fun! A special film.
customcontainerhome13 December 2020
Such a smart film that is so relevant to today. This film is incredibly enjoyable for both teens and adults. You will connect with these teens as the go on a digital free journey forced on them by their parents. You will laugh out loud and see sides to these teens that you wouldn't expect. There's so much going for this film. Highly recommend and worth your time. Enjoy!

Smart, funny, and cute
NUDavis859-122 November 2020
Smart, funny, and cute. This modern day Breakfast Club surprise us with a new take as the kids are forced to deal with their differences after having all electronics taken awake. What makes this work so well is that the characters are very likable, especially the lead, Normandy. You will cheer for these characters to succeed.

Very much a modern day Breakfast Club!
rankthelion9 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A heart warming film about 5 teenagers from different walks of life learning how to become friends for a month without technology. In the the film they kept saying "digital detox" and and that seemed to be what rubbed off on the kids, especially when the kids decide to hang out by themselves. Even the relationship between Grandma and Normandy. One thing that I was glad that came out of this film, is that the parents weren't stupid like parents usually are in these types of movies. Congratulations on a very well done indie film.

Great premise, a movie for teenagers and adults. Solid script, funny moments and mostly a heartfelt topic that touches the lives of each of us: the addiction to technology and how much we're missing out in life.

An Offbeat Comedy with Vision
huntthejest29 March 2021
This movie is funny. Sometimes through its own unique voice and commentary on its great premise; sometimes unintentionally. The characters can feel stock or broad at times (notable exceptions being the titular Normandy and her Grandma), but each adds a wrinkle to the concept of teens connecting beyond their digital personas. There are some scenarios they present that I would've loved to see another pass at the dialogue to make it flow more naturally (which would probably help some of the actors struggling to make deliveries sound natural), but some lines that are immediately hilarious and memorable (again, grandma sticks with you). I appreciated the filmmakers had something to say, did it with humor and consideration of different viewpoints, and made some real connections between the characters. A low budget first time feature, starring local amateurs is no easy task, but the filmmaker seems to find his footing a bit with this effort. Looking forward to him honing his voice in future efforts.

Digital Withdrawal - Ha!
directortim201212 October 2020
I love the premise of this film! I can be a little digitally obsessed myself. It was great to watch how the kids in the film deal with their "digital detox." It's a funny movie, but with genuine moments as well. Definitely a little of a brat-pack 80's vibe, which I of course loved. A terrific cast that play their parts so well. An all around terrific film. One that I can thoroughly recommend!

Terrific performance by a winning young cast and a waterfall of well paced dialogue are the driving forces behind this fun and timely indie comedy. The festival wins and nominations all well-deserved. Put away your phones and watch this entertaining movie.

Fun comedy that isn't just about teens
baccaruda114 February 2022
A sweet-natured film with an interesting premise! Technology has certainly been a detriment to human interaction in many instances, and the idea of making people interact with a 30-day tech time-out is actually a great idea for everyone. But getting teens to give up their tech? That's a genuine source of conflict between kids and parents in real life. In this movie, five kids are mostly respectful of their parents forcing this idea on them, and also of forcing those kids to hang together for a month. The very different teens don't like each other much at first, but grow to enjoy each other over their month together. This film offers more than a few fun moments too. One of my biggest pet peeves of entertainment that features teens is that adults and parents are mostly shown as worthy of nothing but ridicule. Not the case with this movie, as the adults are decent and smart, and are portrayed as such. The relationship between the lead character Normandy and her Grandmother (and bestie) is especially sweet natured. Overall, a nice showcase for the film makers and cast!

fun update an old movie
williamgway12 October 2020
Yes, this is a 'Breakfast Club' digital update. And that is a good thing. I am not sure how many people remember the Breakfast Club but this film takes the renegade youth story and delivers a well acted, well scripted movie. Recommend for a fun watch.

A Modern-Day Indie Breakfast Club
JGReviews9 October 2020
Normandy Is My Name is an indie film that I stumbled upon that's new to Amazon Prime. I like finding independent projects like this because they showcase ideas and concepts that are often more interesting than Hollywood fare, even if they can't match their multi-million dollar budgets. I really like Normandy Is My Name's concept of a modern day Breakfast Club, especially since I recently watched Breakfast Club and it felt incredibly dated at this point. This film has a lot of heart and I think it will be rewarding for others like me who have an open mind and want to discover some creative independent films.

Comedy with heart and a message
srt-24513 December 2020
Intergenerational understanding is front and center in this comedy about what happens when a group of very different kids are brought together by their parents and forced to put down their phones. The titular character is quirky, and her reflections carry the audience through the film, and her unique nature brings the characters together.

hilarious and extremely relevant
JoshSegel8 December 2021
I didn't know anything about this film, but the premise intrigued me. I'm so glad I gave it a chance, because it's exactly the kind of sweet and charming comedy that I was in the mood for. Whether or not you're a teen now or, well, quite a few years ago, you'll find something to relate to in this well-written and wonderfully acted film. "Modern Breakfast Club" is such a fitting and well-deserved description for this engaging indie. Check it out!

Hughes
artistgp18 November 2021
An indie film with a fun John Hughes vibe. It's like a modern take on The Breakfast club. Definitely different than the normal Hollywood cookie cutter film. It was nice to watch something a little different. Always good to change up the pace.

Set yourself free
moviezagogo8 September 2021
With phone technology beginning to crowd the cinematic space as mercilessly as it does our physical lives, we are finally presented with an interesting indie exploration of what modern life could hold for those set free from mobile devices. Worth a look.

Original indie with young cast
grantpichla10 April 2021
This film was funny, original, and nice opportunity for local artists to put something out there. Clearly not Hollywood budget, the film suffers from pitfalls that many indie films do... But it's still a worthy project. What you lack in funding and expertise is heart and originality. At times the script gets a bit slow, but I did get multiple laughs from these characters.
