Love, Hatred and Moral Dilemma
claudio_carvalho6 March 2017
Rick and Michonne drive a van to scavenge for weapons and supplies to fight Negan and the Saviors. They reach a carnival crowded of walkers, former civilians and military with weapons, and a store plenty of food. They plan to destroy the walkers to take the weapons. Meanwhile Rosita is still shaken and decides to kill Negan at any price, and teams up with Sasha. Tara lives a moral dilemma since she promised the Oceanside community not to tell about their existence.

"Say Yes" is a good but not great episode of "The Walking Dead", where Rick and Michonne show how in love for each other they are. Michonne's attitude when she believes Rick has been devoured by the walkers is the best example of how connected they are. Rosita is disturbed and her noble but her hatred for Negan may jeopardize her friends. The moral dilemma of Tara in a destroyed world is another important moment of "Say Yes". Jadis does not convince as a potential allied to team- up. Is Rick taking the correct decision giving weapon to her community? My vote is eight.

Rick and Michonne find a treasure trove of needed items.
ohmap-977-6648107 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Talk about luck! While just looking around for food to feed the Saviors so they wouldn't get their heads bashed in with a bat named (Lucille), Michonne found a cache of weapons that will help them on their way against Negan.

This episode was basically filler, but Michonne did such a fine job acting I have to give it an 8.

I thought the heart felt talk Tara had with Judith was good. I'm glad Judith convinced her to confide what she knew about the town of women she found with all the guns to Rick. Judith didn't say too much, but obviously it was enough! We all can see where this is heading. We are going to have a Battle Royale at the end of this season. I just hope the writers don't leave us hanging like they did last year. Not knowing who was killed was too much to bear.

There still could be surprises! These writers can surprise us all just like Terminus.

Quintessential Filler
cody-fields825 March 2017
This episode is one of the best examples of filler that we occasionally get on The Walking Dead. That's not to say it was altogether bad; the episode had a lot of good moments. It was nice to see Michonne's reaction to Rick's apparent death and how much she cares for him. It was nice to see Tara struggle with the weight of her secret and the possible consequences if she were to break the vow she made. It was nice to see Father Gabriel's input to Rosita. However, many of the scenes in this episode did nothing to advance the plot. At minimum, they should have been trimmed and more content should have been added to provide a more worthwhile hour.

My vote is seven.

"Say Yes" Was Everything
evepaulkem7 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was amazing. I read a few comments about how this episode was just filler. Well, fill me up. This episode had humor, romance, drama, action, angst, substance, everything. I really enjoyed it. The actors involved in this episode did a wonderful job, especially Andy and Danai. I have nothing but good things to say about their portrayals of Rick and Michonne. Their on screen chemistry is palpable. They have a fantastic and healthy relationship. They complement each other beautifully.

And I read a few complaints about the CGI deer. Did that ruin the episode for you, really? If you didn't truly like the episode, that's fine. But don't try to find innocuous reasons to complain about it.

Also, I don't believe the fake out was about trying to trick the audience into believing Rick was dead. It was about Michonne truly believing Rick was dead and her reaction to his death. And I, personally, don't mind the fake outs. Think about how many near death experiences a person can have in a lifetime. Now throw in a zombie apocalypse.

The Walking Dead Writers deserve praise for developing great characters and great stories
ariadne1047 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It is is an author's dream and why I love this show.

As I see it, SAY YES, featuring Michonne and Rick, was all about developing and getting into the minds of their characters. Michonne's break down shows the viewers what Rick actually means to her. So far, they showed her wanting to fight and not deal with whatever consequences that come... the possibility that she or Rick might die. (I don't think that will happen, they are the stars of the show) The writers aren't just telling us these two are a unit but they showed us, which is a big rule of writing, show don't tell. We were given the action of walker kills, some fun, some angst.

We got to see an older Judith and her screen time with Tara was fun if you paid attention to the baby's facial expressions as she listened to Tara.

Rosita continues down a path she knows is going to screw over everyone, but she's in her own head and doesn't care. Unfortunately, she's bringing Sasha into her mess. (I have a bad feeling for Sasha) Father Gabriel continues to grow as a character that is trustworthy with wisdom. I am wondering if Rick and Michonne killed the Saviors, who were playing golf or did they just steal the truck? Hopefully, that question will be answered.

Rick shows his appreciation and affection for Michonne by going after a deer he had no way of procuring from shackled walkers all around. The supposedly "fake out" looked specifically designed to SHOW how much Rick's possible death would affect our fearless Michonne. She's not a robot, she's a woman and when her man goes down, she might possibly go down with him. It's human and it's real. She lost everything once before and was about to lose the one person who brought her back from the brink. Who else could go through something like that and want to continue living?

Jadis, our GPK leader of Vulcan (I can't help it, she looks like Spock's sister) thought she could get the upper hand over Rick. When she demanded the cat, it was the wrong move and was forced to Say Yes, to Rick. Oh, how the tables have been turned.

One last thing, that poor CGI deer died a horrible death and he deserved it.

Say Yes
bobcobb3016 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I will give The Walking Dead credit for giving us a different kind of episode here. A more light-hearted take, but it almost went too far on the comedic route. It barely even felt like the same show at times.

And it got repetitive fast. We can only watch them go through 10-12 zombies at a time for so long.

And with Glenn gone I guess we got our annual "Glenn somehow avoids death while looking like he can't escape" with Rick hiding in the box from the zombies tonight.

One of the best episodes I have seen in the entire Negan storyline
IMikeDB9 March 2017
I absolutely hate Negan, passionately, this season was the worst season like, ever. Period. However this episode was a breath of fresh air, focusing on actual survival, emotions and suspense to keep the viewer entertained, not lame-ass dialogue where Negan takes 20 minutes to make a point he could of made in 20 seconds. Please give us more like this! ALMOST as good as the episode with Daryl with the Rocket Launcher! :D

A weak narrative with a few worthwhile moments
those_who_dig7 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I often read or hear criticism of 'The Walking Dead', especially its latest season. Some have said that the show has run its course; others have said that there are too many things going on compared to earlier seasons; others have criticised the 'character specials' like the one given to Tara a few months back. Compared to many fans, I'm quite forgiving of this seventh season. In fact, I think it's a good season. I don't think I can defend this latest episode an awful lot, though. It was decent, but the writers can do much better. My main complaint about this episode it isn't very effective from a narrative point of view.

There's a moment in the middle of the episode where we see a small crowd of walkers gather around Rick, and it looks like our protagonist's end has finally arrived. Michonne looks on, helpless and devastated, and we the audience have to share her anguish... Except, no one believed that. This kind of scene might have worked well in the series' early episodes, but were we really supposed to invest in the idea that Rick has been taken down by a handful of walkers in the middle of a fairground? (Also look out for the *awful* CGI deer in this scene!) The episode makes a second narrative insufficiency, a little later on. Rosita and Sasha join forces in a plan to assassinate Negan. In the final moments of 'Say Yes', we see Sasha wielding a sniper rifle. This doesn't make the intended impact for two reasons. Firstly: do we really believe that Sasha will be the one taking out Negan? Secondly: we've known for weeks that the Alexandrians are plotting revenge on a big scale, and so showing one of the characters holding a gun really isn't much of a game-changer.

You've probably noted that I've given this episode 6/10, which is a fairly favourable rating. That's because I didn't actually *dislike* 'Say Yes', but after what I consider to be a very good few weeks, it strikes me as something of an anti-climax. It wasn't all bad, though: the development of Rick and Michonne's relationship, whilst advanced a little superficially, feels rather important and perhaps forebodes some unfortunate but not unlikely tragedy. Rosita gets some well-needed attention in this episode, too.

Overall, it isn't the worst episode of the series; it's certainly better than the Tara special! It just doesn't feel essential: you could pretty much skip this episode if you ever decide to re-watch the show.

Be careful what you wish for
jamesrupert201417 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
As I was getting tired of his longwinded sadism, I was hoping for a Negan-free episode. I got my wish in a Rick and Michonne's road trip to find guns. They discover a huge cache of military weaponry (good news for those of us tired of Negan and looking forward to a huge firefight) and lots of dead to be dispatched before the guns can be harvested. After surmounting that hurdle, they head off to their arm new allies, then home. There were a few things about the episode that really irked me: 1) considering all that they have survived, why does Rick (and the others) act so stupidly sometimes - the area seems to be crawling with Negans and other scavengers, yet he and Michonne celebrate finding the firearms by shooting metal targets - wouldn't a bit of stealth be advised? 2) the deer: did anyone over the age of 5 (other than Michonne) not immediately think that the walkers were (spoiler alert) eating the deer, not the star; and 3) what's with the woman with the bowl-cut who talks like the kids in "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome" (or the South Park kids in "The Wacky Molestation Adventure"). It's only been a few years since the apocalypse, I doubt that English would have degenerated that much (Negan certainly pontificates endlessly in regular, pre-walker English). I like the series but it is starting to show its age - and I hope they stop with the 'fake deaths'. Presumably that is why Abe and Glen had to be killed so graphically - anything less and I would have just expected them to crawl out from under a car at the beginning of the next episode.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
mizst037 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode mostly focused on Rick and Michonne's bond, and it captured it beautifully. Rick and Michonne are an amazing couple. I simply love them together. They are in love with each other; they make each other happy; they are a cohesive team; they get stuff done--point, blank, period.

Even if I wasn't a fan of the show, if I saw this episode in isolation, I would start watching The Walking Dead. Because this episode had everything I look for in a good story. Mind you, that CGI deer wasn't the best, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. Plus, I can look past little things like that, and I'm not the type of person who complains just to complain.

Road Trip scavenger hunt
rokbf518 March 2017
Since they seem to be able to go out for days scavenging for Negan & the Saviors, why don't Rick & Daryl get others to go along take quite a few vehicles back to Terminus or to Morgans' old apartment and collect all the guns & other weapons laying around. Morgans stash looked like it could take on whoever & whatever they were ever to encounter & they are all just sitting there. Or Rick to avenge for Beth could tell Negan that Grady Hospital in Atlanta is stocked full of weapons and all the medicine they would want but has to have help to get it.

An episode of two halves
TheLittleSongbird26 April 2021
Can understand totally why people would love "Say Yes", as such a great job is done with Rick and Michonne as characters and also with their relationship. Also have never minded it when 'The Walking Dead' doesn't go down full pull no punches territory, and some episodes that have been dismissed as filler have not been that bad. Can also totally understand why others would dislike "Say Yes", as it could have been a lot better as an episode and no the criticisms that have been cited are not innocuous.

"Say Yes" is to me one of the middling episodes of Season 7. It does have good things and starts off very well. It also has too many of the things that made the season generally underwhelming and has a lot of flaws, with the second half not living up to the promise that the first showed. "Say Yes" is not a terrible episode, it is also not a particularly good one either. More an uneven, disjointed sort of episode that starts off excellently but falls apart midway through and becomes frustrating.

As said, there are good things here in "Say Yes". It is shot and lit with great atmospheric style and the grit is authentic without being overdone or gimmicky. The episode is hauntingly scored and the intimacy in the direction in the first half was appreciated. It has some thoughtful scripting in the first half with some genuinely amusing and gentle laughs along the way. Did appreciate the development too to Tara.

Where "Say Yes" particularly shines is the characterisation and relationship between Rick and Michonne that dominates the intriguing and charming first half. Both are written beautifully written and at their most interesting, investable and well developed all season. Especially Michonne. The relationship between the two is fun and heartfelt and Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira play their parts beautifully. Michonne's genuinely anguished reaction at what is thought to have happened to Rick at one crucial point is some of the best individual acting of the season and a shining moment for Gurira. The acting actually is good on the whole, apart from Rosita.

It is a shame however that the second half isn't anywhere near as strong, to me actually it was a mess. Where the episode did start falling apart was in the walker attack, which started off very tense and exciting but let down badly by the truly ridiculous aftermath reveal. Absolutely agree with the criticism with the deer and it is not an innocuous criticism, for one thing it looks distractingly awful to the point that it sticks out like the sorest of thumbs and then we have it adding absolutely nothing to what goes on other than setting one up for the walker attack.

Furthermore, the second half has some bizarre writing, too much silliness (i.e. The aftermath reveal), vague and senseless motivations (especially Rosita) and the writing becomes awkward. It also lags a lot in the pace. Absolutely hated the way Rosita is written and acts here, she is very annoying, overacted and her behaviour is beyond perplexing. Can understand why people would consider it filler, it doesn't add very much at all to what had happened previously in the season and doesn't further anything plot-wise (character-wise yes, plot no). The closest it gets to that is the ending, which felt contrived and tacked on.

All in all, first half good, second half pretty bad. 5/10.

Rick and Michonne are wonderful, Tara is such a good person and Rosita...?
gogetters-247865 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I don't even now what to say about Rosita. I get where she is coming from and her anger towards Negan and the Saviors is tangible - but she is not the only one who lost something in 7x1. She really needs to form a sense of community and most importantly: SHE NEEDS TO CHILL. Enough said.

Michonne and Rick on their own is always a delight. I just love them together. Rick talking about how he met Glenn was heartbreaking and it brought back so many good memories. I love when TWD has these kind of scenes in episodes. They make me love the episode even more. When Michonne and Rick ran into trouble - it is actually a whole lot if trouble. But I enjoyed it throughout! I loved this fair-location and it was exciting to see how these two badasses manage to get what they want.

Another highlight for me was Tara. I liked her since season 4 and her loyalty was always something I really loved about her character. Not telling anyone about Oceanside might be silly to some viewers - but to me it's just her character, through and through... and I love it. I just liked how she struggles with it, because that's who Tara simply is. Cyndie became a loyal friend and Tara also knows the backstory of Oceanside, that they don't want the Saviors to know about them. It's a very morally challenging decision indeed!

Father Gabriel is such a dork, I love him. His speech was nice and inspirational. It's nice to see his loyal side and he became a good friend! Seth Gillian plays his role so well! I really enjoy his character as I enjoy Tara's! The ending with Sasha was good - though I hope that Sasha won't do stupid things like Rosita. I really like Sasha and I don't want AMC to ruin her character... There is still so much potential for this badass chick! I loved this episode. I enjoyed it throughout!

To some IMDb-users: If you keep voting 1/10, the rating will never be above 7.5/10. I think 1/10 is really harsh and unreflected.

Another dumpster moment
vanilla996 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Rick "crawling under the dumpster" like Glenn ruins the whole credibility of the show. Stop playing cheap tricks and show some substance. Jesus Christ. I haven't seen a show trying so hard to create "suspenseful" moments with this sht since ever, since other shows actually create suspense in the CORRECT MANNER not by relying on some dumb stuff like this.

All good until the part with the deer
musicshowtime13 March 2017
OK, everything was fine this episode until Rick tried to go up on that wheel instead of killing the rest of the zombies which makes nonsense, then he saw the deer which looked sooo fake, i mean it has another colours than the rest of the background and it was awful. Initially i thought Rick had visions or something like that, but no, it was a poor animation. It s disappointing for a show like that, oh, I forgot, how the hell did Rick escape when nobody was around him and then suddenly the zombies eat the 'deer' i mentioned before? This episode really gave me headaches.

Power Couple Richonne Slays Together
chasus7 March 2017
This episode was refreshing because it finally got a look at the Richonne relationship as it continues to grow stronger and in a ZA no less.

I have been one of those who have been mentally tortured from 7A and all the Negan and Savior showcase. The lead character himself Rick was narrowed down to a back drop and Michonne not having a chance to be seen using her signature weapon. Well finally "Say Yes" had these two together getting things down slaying together, protecting each other and actually having adult conversation about things happening in the apocalypse. Yes it was slow paced but it was a nice slow pace with the right mixture of everything this couple encompasses. Nice to see some humor, tension, excitement, hear some laughter, notice fear and address what is ahead for them and everyone else in regards to this battle with Negan. I honestly believe the Rick and Michonne union is one of the best if not of all time, they add the happiness and light that the show desperately needed after all this depressing overload of Negan and the sanctuary. To me the show is still suffering from that aspect and it does not help that the lead up to everything is taking a bit longer.

Regardless of the episode mainly showcasing Richonne it still progresses the story knowing where and how they got the guns while also revealing how Rick is coping. Plus we got to see a new side of Michonne who has shown some vulnerabilities which is human, we don't get to see enough of this coming from her. She is bad ass in her own right but she too has fears especially now with the possibility of losing Rick.

Either way for me it was a 10. I should subtract 2 points just for all the angry rosita and her lashing out at Father G, which made no sense. The garbage people I don't trust either. If it wasn't for richonne I would have happily left it at a 6 at best lol

The episode explores Rick and Michonne's relationship, as they navigate the challenges of survival together
fernandoschiavi21 March 2024
Rick and Michonne scavenge for guns to fulfill the agreement with Jadis. They both continue to explore their relationship, and Michonne realizes how much she cares about Rick, when she briefly thinks he's been killed by a group of Walkers. Rick reassures her that she won't lose him.

They deliver the supplies and guns to Jadis, who asks for more guns. Rick reluctantly hands over twenty more weapons that he had been holding in reserve.

Rosita, having become impatient over the inaction of the Alexandrians, takes her anger out on her friends. After failing to find more guns on her own, she decides to go to the Hilltop, where she asks Sasha for help killing Negan. Sasha agrees, with the condition that she be allowed to pull the trigger.

"Say Yes" follows Rick and Michonne as they scavenge for supplies in a desolate landscape. The episode is notable for its exploration of Rick and Michonne's relationship, as they navigate the challenges of survival together. The episode also explores themes of hope and resilience, as Rick and Michonne refuse to give up in the face of overwhelming odds.

One of the most memorable scenes in the episode is when Rick and Michonne discover a carnival and decide to take a break from their scavenging to enjoy a moment of normalcy in the midst of the apocalypse. This moment highlights the characters' humanity and their ability to find joy in even the darkest of times. The tension builds as Rick and Michonne encounter numerous obstacles and threats in their quest for supplies, leading to a thrilling and suspenseful climax that showcases their resourcefulness and determination to survive.

The episode is also notable for its exploration of the characters' motivations and fears, particularly Rick's fear of losing Michonne and his desire to protect her at all costs. This adds depth to their relationship and highlights the bond they share as they navigate the challenges of the post-apocalyptic world together.

Predictable, lazily written. TWD still has not redeemed itself.
FranklinSmyth6 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It's safe to say that S7 so far has been a complete sh*t show. The pacing has been all over the place, there have been several questionable writing choices, and the show seems to jump from soap drama to gory thriller seemingly at random. This episode is no different.

(Minor spoilers here)

When Rick and Michonne first climb up on to the roof, Michonne utters the line "We can't stay up here for long". If the writers could get any less subtle they'd have to burst through the door and scream "ROOF GON COLLAPSE LMAO" themselves. Anyway, that's exactly what happens.

So continuing on, Rick manages to somehow kill a CG deer (or at least I think that's what happened, otherwise the deer was just caught by like 8 slow ass f*ing zombies) and Michonne runs over to help rick, only to see some zombies grubbing on some meat. Of course the audience is made to think that Rick was just killed off in the middle of the damn 12th episode of the 16 episode season, but of course, it's the deer being eaten and rick busts out of a box... or something? And then he THROWS Michonne her damn sword. Like holy f*ck man, that's how people lose arms! Didn't she drop it right by her side anyway? How did it end up on the other side of the deer?

All in all, this episode definitely lacks writing effort and continuity seems to be all over the place. Definitely not the worst of S7 and definitely not the best, it's just a very bland mediocre episode.

Love in a time of Zombies
conjwoman7 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Once again TWD proves it has great storytellers at the helm. This episode was a wonderful character driven episode. Some forget that the show is about trauma, loss, and hope. Gimple and his group of writers have always given us the heart that's needed to follow a great show. They realize depicting great Zombie kills is not enough. Great characters and stories make great art.

The relationship between Michonne and Rick is complex and rich. This episode renders their tender and intimate selves as well as their warrior shelves. One of my favorite episodes ever.

One of the (if not) worst episodes of the series
Baadnewz7 March 2017
Plain awful. Filled with both cringe and (very) laughable moments. Too many to mention. The deer CGI scene is great. I don't think I've seen anything worse from a supposed top TV show. Useless filler. Why 2 and not 1? Well, because the toy pistol scene made me smile a little. That's it. Nothing more to add. A dumb highlight from a very dumb and bad episode.

A filler episode filled with great development of rick and michonne
MomentIMDB15 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers

Yes yes this was for me a needed episode!! I got to enjoy the lead power couple who are kick ass and a passionate adult couple. You don't get a lot of that in an end of the world society. Honestly this is my favorite episode so far because it actual showcased meaningful conversation in the mix with some action tears and laughter.

Some may not like it but oh well most people complain about this show too much. Then when the season ends they cry about how they miss it, lol insane most veteran shows would kill for their show to be at the top after 7 years!! I am so invested in this show that I don't ever want to see it end. I can give or take a few characters but I watch every episode regardless of how painful it is. Well luckily episode 12 SAY YES was high 10 for me I can't wait for the build up to all things wild and crazy

Viva La RICHONNE!

Great Episode
chadbowman-836627 March 2017
I must say I am not one to really enjoy an episode on a couple regardless of what type of show it is. However TWD is different, the focus on both Rick and Michonne was a nice surprise. I like both individually they have strong traits and have been through things. Before the start of season 7 I did not really feel any kind of way about them being a couple but now I like it and shall I dare to say maybe even excited when I see both in action (business and personal)

Anyway enjoyed the focus kick ass couple could have done without the Rosita parts though but that is another story.
