An out of times fantasy set up in an imaginary Sardinia.

An interesting short movie, depicting the suggestive landscapes of Sardinia, a beautiful isle located in Italy. The main character is making his way to a mysterious fighting tournament (S'arena) to honor the memory of his daughter. The ambientation is set up in an imaginary fantasy out of times age. The fights will be cruel and merciless with an unexpected ending. Considering the very low budget used to realize the project (around 7000 Eur) the final result is surprisingly positive. I feel to recommend to watch this short, will be worth your time.

Remarkable

It's unbelievable how much can be done nowadays with low budget. It's true that many have worked for free motivated by the project itself.

I found the mix of Bronze Age civilizations and fantasy story telling just amazingly well done by the director. The costumes, photography, sound and in general film making are terrific. The director is talented and hope to see more from this director.

The performers do a great job too. Overall a great piece of cinema for those who live the genre.

Tribal conflicts in ancient Italy

Warning: Spoilers
"S'arena. A Tale from Nuraghes" is a live action short film from 2016 that was written and directed by Mauro Aragoni, produced as well and one of his most recent as well as most known works. The film is despite the English title in the Italian language, but dialogues during these 24 minutes are so rare that you can watch it without subtitles too in my opinion, even if you don't speak or understand Italian. This one is more about make-up, costumes and the atmosphere anyway, not too much about the characters' interactions. It is set way in the past and there is some aggression between characters, so I would say it is a drama with history and fantasy as secondary genres. Overall, okay to watch once, but only once, even if I still felt it dragged a bit here and there and from a character study perspective it did almost nothing for me. A bit style over substance and the visual aspects cannot really make up for it entirely. Close call, but this one gets a thumbs-down from me. Not recommended.
