Scii-fi capturing a retro feel with modern cinematography
This short film takes you back to an element of creepy suspense that is missing from so many of today's sci-fi films attempting to run the story so fast that they don't give the viewer time to form a prediction on what is about to happen before in this case Emma Dark takes you off in a completely different direction. It has an atmosphere of the early Dr Who stories. With up to date shooting angles, a great performance by Alan Austen, and director Emma Dark's short appearance, you wouldn't want to meet her in character up a dark alley.

Beautifully shot sci-fi short

A commute around London for average guy Adam Harper ( Alan Austen ), turns into anything but, in this quietly creepy, and thought provoking sci-fi short.

Accidentally bumping into a fellow traveller, causes Adam's world to be taken apart. He finds himself transported into unfamiliar woodland, with a gun, and a cryptic mobile phone text, telling him he has ten minutes to save himself and his world. With this advice, he now seems tied up in a game of chance, where a mysterious woman has set the rules, and the outcome lies with who he chooses to save or kill.

With only a 13 minute running time, this film manages to be rather beautiful, mysterious, menacing, creepy, and quite enigmatic too.

Director Emma Dark has captured great essence in this tale. It doesn't offer explanations and tidy plot devices, but instead has glimpses into a changed, alien world, where normality don't seem to exist.

Alan Austen plays the unfortunate Adam with great conviction. It's nice to see him back onscreen after a long absence since his Star Wars days. The small cast are all effective, and it has to be said that this film really does look like a major Hollywood product in it's execution and production values. The scenes on the beach are truly stunningly shot.

I came away very impressed, and put in mind of Geoff Murphy's " The Quiet Earth" from 1985, whereby a similar earth is somehow changed into something alien and strange.

Recommended viewing.

Sharp Short Sci Fi Trip

Salient Minus Ten is the latest short from Director , Writer and Producer Emma Dark. An intelligent well shot eerie Science Fiction Thriller, about a Man called Adam who is transported into a realm where he has to play a deadly game. I first saw this at a screening in London around 2018 or 19 I think, well long before we entered the twilight zone world in which we live in now. What I really like about this film is its retro feel of the story with a modern look, what i mean by retro is the 'feel' of such films as The Man Who Fell To Earth and the man driven mad plots such as we saw in The Man Who Haunted Himself ,the sense of mystery and something not being quiet right. This is an other worldly story set in modern normal locations, its also an excellent example of the show and don't tell style filmmaking which usually make the best films. No explanation no exposition needed, most sci fi films need to tell us the why's and the who instead of taking us to these worlds and letting us experience them, which this film Definitely does. Look forward in seeing more from this Director in the future.

A U.K. underground sci fi classic!

Absolutely loved watching the YouTube premiere of salient minus ten featuring Emma dark from my film House of Lexi. Wonderful camerawork and wonderful soundtrack and Alan Austen who's in my new film The other soul to Evie is brilliant. Reminds me of the eeriness of the John pertwee and Tom baker doctor who eras both in cinematography and soundtrack. The early part of the film had a great get carter and a clockwork orange urban vibe to it. Emma dark continues to go strength to strength. Samantha oci is also great in this film. Emma's definitely in her magical element with the stunning beach scenes. A U.K. underground sci fi classic!"

This is a brilliantly atmospheric sci-fi film. The storyline is both fantastic and fantastical, the cinematography is wonderful, and the whole film is well paced and well made. Can't wait to see more of Emma Dark's films.

to be Adam

A film to feel it, scene by scene. And great performance of Alan Austen. An ordinary man in not ordinary situations and the fine job of Emma Dark to propose to the viewer the status of part of film.Because it is so easy to feel be Adam... The basic virtue - the old fashion atmosphere. And, sure, the impecable craft.
