The torments of love and desire
Rodrigo_Amaro18 October 2023
Gotta give some props to the makers of the video for letting things to go suitable for both genders as the young guy, lead of this video, as to whom could be the tormented soul that affects his body and mind during a restless night. "Soft Cell: Tainted Love" was a classic 1980's song that already had a promotional video made at its time but somehow during re-releases of material came this clip in the early 1990's of whom I was quite familiar.

Lead singer Marc Almond appears as a big head on a starry outer space that sings and teases the boy alone in his room with images a possible loved one or just someone he really needs to hook up with, someone invisible to us. Almond has two dancing figures working on his command that makes the guy wake up from his sleep, inciting him to get up, go out and fulfill his desires either being love or lust. Little devils at work.

It's a memorable video though the song plays in a different version than the famous one, and also the one that makes a medley with the classic "Where Did Our Love Go". Too bad the little story doesn't have much of an ending so we could say if it was a good advice from the horoscope, the creatures or Almond; or if the boy end up on a bad scenario. But the idea works just fine, along with catchy song. 8/10.
