A Tribute...
Evi-TC19 June 2017
Phoebe Brand was a very special lady. Not only was she a pioneer in American theater as a member of the group theater along side Harold Clurman, Stella Adler and Clifford Odets, but as a private teacher, she changed the lives of generations of actors. Beyond that legacy, she had a rich life as well. Did you know she, along with her husband, was blacklisted in Hollywood during the communist scare, or that she worked in the very first Macy's thanksgiving day parade in NYC. Ms. Duarte has done a tremendous job bringing this fascinating story to life. As a teacher herself, a protégé of Stella Adler and as a dear friend of Ms. Brand, she handled the storytelling with grace. See this documentary when you get a chance. Just to see the scores of friends and fellow actors that spoke on Phoebe's behalf at her memorial was touching. Luckily for all of us, Phoebe spent nearly two years working side by side with Cristina on this film prior to passing in 2004.

A True Legend...

As a New Yorker and a theater fan for many decades, I can truly appreciate the legacy that Ms. Brand left behind. I knew of her life and contributions to the group theater, but this documentary tells us so much more. Who knew she had such a rich life. The director, Ms. Duarte is a thoughtful and elegant story teller to say the least. She crafted a beautiful film with grace, taught us many things we did not know about Ms. Brand and brought Phoebe's personality alive. The chemistry between the two of them was magical. There is no doubt they were good friends with a mutual trust and respect.

What a lovely Story!!!

This was such a lovely story about a woman so dedicated to her art and one who many would not know, which is unfortunate. Even in her late nineties, you can see her enthusiasm as her eyes light up the camera. So much personality. The director brought this woman's story to life for all to see and appreciate. Well done!

Heartfelt story....

I was captivated by Ms. Brands story. It always amazes me every time I learn about someone's life that was so full, rich and influential, but unknown to me. Compliments to the director for telling Ms. Brand's story. The film was thoughtful in concept and execution. A must see documentary about a passionate artist of American Theater.
