Turbulent Times
DeusWar10 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Finally, after much anticipation, I was able to sit down and see Turbulent. Now, as a low-budget Christian film fan my expectations were not too high going into this. I can appreciate the sets used in the film which amount to an office, a house, a forested area, and inside of a small airplane. The filmography and acting were decent overall. Good job for a low-budget.

Turbulent seemingly has a double meaning for both the marriage depicted in the film and the winds causing the airplane accident in which the plot is centered around. If this film had focused on one element instead of both at the same time it would have been a decent film in my estimation.

Admittedly, I came into this film hoping for a survival flick with a spiritual message. Instead, I got a movie with a lot of lengthy flashbacks and continual reminders of a dysfunctional marriage. Many Christian movies are focused around a cliché dysfunctional marriage with a saved versus unsaved spouse leading to an eventual salvation resolution for the unsaved spouse, and this film is no different. What was bothering was the lack of imagination that went into the survival element of the film. To my dismay, this aspect made the film almost unbearable as it appears that the main focus was on the marriage element at the cost of the survival element.

Some elements could have been considered more closely for the survival aspect such as: building a shelter, foraging through the wreckage for supplies, looking for a first aid kit, building a huge fire to signal smoke for rescue, not using stagnated water on wounds, etc. I tried to tell myself that he was just in shock, so he didn't do anything, but then the film ended in a rescue with almost no effort put in by the main character to be found. (He was in a cave when the rescue team came.)

If you can ignore the lack of survival elements and focus on the marriage and spiritual elements you may like this movie.

Disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
I usually judge movies in 3 parts. The beginning (how does it start off. Does it catch your attention), middle (how it progressing, us it keeping your attention) and the ending (how it wraps things up). This movie starts out only so-so and it's middle wasn't much better but the ending stunk to high h*ll. To realize it was all for nothing, that it was basically a dream. The wife was dead all along was so disappointing. You hold out hope that maybe it'll be ok but it never was. I feel as a movie, it was bad. No proper ending, it just ended. It's a "Dallas" ending. At the end, it was just a dream.

You call this acting?

This was the first time I've ever seen Jeff Rose. Hopefully it will be my last. Too funny. He had a stick in his mouth to pull a little piece of glass out of his arm. I got so tired of hearing him call out for Rachel. Lol. Hey, she's over in the field next to a bush. "I need help!" "Anyone there?" He called out. He was up walking around with what looked to be pink paint for blood on his arm. Hey, your plane went down guy. You're fine. Why all the drama. I thought after the first 30 minutes this movie might get good. It was boring. Sounded like they were both reading instead of acting. Then he carries Rachel around in the woods dodging all of these little fires just burning in one spot for an hour. No story. No plot. No nothing but poor acting. I give it a one for effort.

Struggling with a difficult life problem?
digiteum20 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The film focuses in the relationship that two people have in their marriage, which is in actual fact true to many marriages and relationships today. The man and the woman are struggling in what they want. She has found God in the Bible and he hasn't yet. She is depressed because of a miscarriage in the past, and he has focused on his work and deals.

When the gift paper is off, the reality of their relationship, the last save our marriage trip - she knows where she is going to heaven, but he doesn't. People who are faced with rock bottom situations often give up. When we are faced with a no deal, all we have to turn to is God. How difficult that is for the unbeliever.

The plane they are in crashes and the cold reality of life catches up. Things couldn't get worse than rock bottom could they. One man is an island and with his wife badly injured he struggles.

In the midst of everything that goes wrong, the rain, he finds shelter in a cave. With his mind playing tricks on him he sees his wife in his heart. He finally accepts Christ into his life.

This is the moment help comes and God has a way of waking us up. The woman has died but Jesus come through and saves us.
