Blake Lively was unrecognizable in her role as a grieving woman who seeks revenge in Reed Morano’s The Rhythm Section. Lively’s Bond-style film flopped really badly at the box office. During the filming of a scene in the film, Lively injured her hand, requiring surgery and shutting down the production for six months. The critics praised Lively’s performance, but her sacrifices were not enough to save the film from an embarrassing fate.
Blake Lively in The Rhythm Section
The poor marketing efforts of the film did not help its case after a thinly written plot. The film had the all-time worst opening weekend record for a film playing over 3000 screens. By the end of the second week, Lively’s film was pulled from 2955 screens.

A batch of early Christmas presents will arrive on Sky Cinema in November! Time to look ahead at which movies are on the way…
Premieres
Ash is Purest White (2018) – 4th November
Cannes favourite Ash Is Purest White is a Chinese drama from Jia Zhangke, and the story is based on the leader of a gang from Zhangke’s childhood who he looked up to. It’s still holding steady at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, so we can confidently say it’s a winner.
Doctor Sleep (2019) – 6th November on Sky Cinema and the Sky Cinema Pass on Now TV
A Shining sequel? Hm, could that ever really be any good? Ah, but wait, a Shining sequel from Haunting of Hill House’s Mike Flanagan based on an actual Stephen King book? We can confirm: it’s certainly a lot better than we thought it might be. In Doctor Sleep, little Danny Torrance has gotten old.

There are a whole host of films bubbling around the virtual Cannes Market at the moment, one, in particular, will see the likes of Richard Gere, Diane Keaton, Blake Lively and Lin-Manuel Miranda team up to star in the romantic comedy ‘The Making Of’.
Written and produced by Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, the story focuses on two couples: long-married filmmakers (Gere and Keaton) have cast overemotional actors (Blake Lively and Lin-Manuel Miranda) to portray their younger selves in the story of their great love. Unfortunately, by the time shooting begins, their fabled marriage is unravelling. The filmmakers want to make a hit; the actors want to tell the true story. Whose version really is the truth? And how do they distinguish between real love and movie love when their lives and their work become hopelessly intertwined?

Blake Lively will star in “Dark Days at the Magna Carta,” a post-apocalyptic thriller that’s being developed at Netflix as a possible trilogy.
Michael Paisley will write the screenplay for “Dark Days at the Magna Carta,” set amid a catastrophic event and centering on a woman going to extreme lengths to survive and save her family. Paisley broke into the business by working in the CAA mailroom. He became a production assistant last year on Netflix’s “The Witcher.”
Lively is also producing the thriller through her B for Effort production banner, along with Kate Vorhoff. Shawn Levy will produce through his 21 Laps company with partner Dan Cohen.
Lively was most recently seen in the action-thriller “The Rhythm Section,” which was a major disappointment for Paramount earlier this year with $6 million in worldwide box office. Her notable film credits include “The Age of Adeline,” “The Shallows” and “A Simple Favor.

Reed Morano is in talks to direct Jennifer Lopez in STXfilms’ “The Godmother,” a drama about Griselda “La Madrina” Blanco, who rose from an impoverished childhood in Colombia to become one of the world’s biggest drug lords before she was killed in 2012, TheWrap has confirmed.
Screenwriter William Monahan, who won an Oscar for writing “The Departed,” is also in talks rewrite the script. Terry Winter and Regina Corrado initially wrote the first draft. “The Godmother” would be the third project between Lopez and STXfilms following 2018’s “Second Act” and “Hustlers.”
“I’ve been forever fascinated by the story of Griselda Blanco and jumped at the chance to play her on screen,” Lopez said in a statement. “She is all things we look for in storytelling and dynamic characters — notorious, ambitious, conniving, chilling. In a genre dominated by legendary kingpins, I’m eager to shine a spotlight on this antihero.
