I don't care for the "comedic relief" that is not very comedic or relieving, but I get that it is a necessary evil in a Grey's Anatomy TV landscape.
They do seem to be trying to give us more in-depth looks at the characters week to week, which it did not seem we would get from the pilot.
It's just mediocre TV though. The writing, the acting, it is not comparable to some of the good shows out there, so even when The Resident gets creative and inventive, it's not must-see television.
