Ray is most definitely back!!!
mryanpp3 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Ray's back with a bang! I love Ray Donovan but I have to admit, the last couple of seasons have felt somewhat stake and a little lazy. But if episode one of season 6 is any indicator then this season is going to be superb!

As for previous comments saying that there's plot holes etc... I think the reviewer needs to watch the episode again.

Ray didn't wake up 'next morning' with his phone. He woke up on the sofa a few days/weeks in the future. His hair had grown, his beard had clearly grown and all his wounds had healed. This is why he had a phone.

And if you watch the scene previous, he goes to the pay phone but it's been vandalised so he asks the cop to call him a taxi. Because he has no phone.

I was waiting for Ray's sixth season. Luckily, it seems that he already got over his wife's death and was the same again. Come on, Ray!

Confusing Indeed

INRE: to plot problems. Yes always confusing and lots of rewinding for me. They come from Boston, lived in California, now theyre all in NY. The Lena character asks Ray to go back get on a plane, to where? he says no,....

Good transition and the best thing about seeing...

...it on DVD is that one can fast forward anytime that skank daughter Briget pops up - man is she a lousy actress and oh yeah likes using that word that our soccer star used to describe visiting the White House.

Well, things finally get intresting

Seen up to episode 6 so far, said that Season 4 was half BS, Season 5 was the definition of BS and total loose of the time and i suggest you skip it altogether, its a huge favor to yourself here.

BUT season 6...oh boy FINALLY the show climbs up again, is not without some plot holes or perfect but nothing like S4 or S5 and steering to right direction.

P.s. half of the illegal things Donovan family do are simply impossible to be done in real world especially at a city as New York (or any other big ass US city that is)

Re: Plot problems

"If Ray ran up a 10 story building chasing the imaginary Abby, and falls off how does he end up in the middle of the river?"
  • I wondered about this myself

"Also, after his swim, he is saved, knocked out" -How is it that he got hit on the back of the head but ends up bleeding down his face in the back of the cop car?

"has drinks in the local bar"
  • Is alcohol free in/on Staten Island? Ray walks in, orders a drink, hears the crazy guy at the end of the bar talk and then gets up and walks out of the bar (without paying for the drink) as soon as the cop starts asking him about his release.
If this is true to life, then I'm moving there :)

If Ray ran up a 10 story building chasing the imaginary Abby, and falls off how does he end up in the middle of the river?

Also, after his swim, he is saved, knocked out arrested and the immediately has drinks in the local bar and ends up at the cops house. The next morning he gats a call from Sam on his phone. His phone? Do they want us to believe he has a working phone with him?

Big improvement
silverton-3795916 December 2023
Compared to the last few seasons, the new characters and scenery are a big improvement. I had taken all I could of the LA stories, with Mickey's nonstop insanity as the only relief from the drudgery of Ray's ongoing trials. So far, Ray is in a new world, with no harassment from the crooked DA and no demands from the LA movie scumbags.

Dominck Lombardozzi is a new character, a NYPD beat cop with problems coming at him from IA and his bosses. He is starting to open up to Ray about what's happening at the same time that Ray's billionaire client is asking him to come back to work for her.

I can see that she's a criminal and is going to be real trouble for Ray. At least the interesting stories are back and the series seems worth following like it was in the first season.

Glad to see some grittiness back
dierregi23 August 2022
Ray is grumpier and more silent than ever (is that even possible?) and his squatting at the cop's house makes little sense, but at least we are dine with sick, dying and ghostly Abby. That was a mighty drag but there's some hope for this season.

However, is that believable that a public figure up for election would do something so utterly stupid as Anita does? Especially in the States, where lawyering up and non-disclosure contracts are the rule. Seriously, picking up a total stranger on the internet for kinky sex?
