Assassin Club
CinemaSerf18 April 2023
Henry Golding is "Morgan", somewhat reluctantly tasked by his handler "Caldwell" (Sam Neill) with an unique challenge. It seems he is embroiled in a game of death - and there are six other professional hit-people out there all determined to kill him (unless he kills them first). He wants to retire to a settled life with his teacher girlfriend "Sophie" (Daniela Melchior) but when the two of them encounter "Drakos" (Lorenzo Buran) in a public park, he realises that the choice isn't going to be his! The idea isn't bad, but what now ensues is all rather poor, sorry. There is plenty of pace but the delivery has more holes that a Swiss cheese festival. These are supposed to be amongst the most lethal and devious folks alive yet they all find each other with ease; there is way too much sentiment as the drama predictably unfolds and the underlying ownership of the plot is convoluted and really weak. Now had we spent a little longer with Golding in his one and only shower scene, then perhaps that might have redeemed his otherwise really hammy performance, but we don't so it doesn't, and coupled with a frankly terrible effort from the wooden-as-ever Neill and the almost pantomime-menace contribution from Noomi Rapace as the police investigator "Vos" - a woman with quite a secret - we are left with a film that stays defiantly in the realms of a flat-footed and over-scripted television movie. Someone, somewhere, is determined to make Henry Golding a star. Good luck with that - he has all the charisma of a wet beer mat.

Nothing new to see here
brettholmes-4066417 April 2023
Being an unlimited viewing member I have seen most cinema releases, this film has few redeeming qualities. Henry Golding & Noomi Rapace made this an easy decision to give it a go, the trailer looked promising however, this film is like my local courier... (it fails to deliver) The direction is manic, I feel like he wanted to use every shot in the playbook! There were times I had to look away as the shots were starting to make my head hurt. And what is with Noomi's accent? Is she French? Or Southern state USA? This plot has more holes than a teabag. That being said if you don't mind spending your cash to see something mind numbing and don't care about the story or the characters then this probably the right film for you. Enjoy?

Budget Kill Bill
roseicon23 February 2023
The movie lacks substance - which I was only expecting due to the high rating this movie has been offered here. The characters are underdeveloped, and the storyline is predictable. The movie attempts to create an air of mystery and intrigue, but fails to deliver. The characters are one-dimensional, and it is difficult to empathize with any of them. The dialogue is weak, and the movie relies heavily on its action sequences to carry it through.

Additionally, some scenes in Assassin Club defy all logic. It is difficult to suspend disbelief when some of the characters' actions or their outcomes seem improbable, if not impossible.

Why?
Sarevok-217 April 2023
This film is like the friend who's constantly trying to hit on someone, but always ends up coming up short.

Acting was bland, and at times, felt like many of the cast really didn't care to be there. The story and more accurately the writing was just awful.

After the first act I so wanted to stop watching, but I endured, and reluctantly kept going.

Shows me that Golding is not capable enough as a leading man, and the idea of him being the future 007 should be taken out of the conversations.

I almost feel bad for Sam Neill being in this movie.

Just my opinion, if you did enjoy it, good on you.

Waste of time!

Warning: Spoilers
Despite all of the bad reviews I read I decided to give the movie a chance - what a bad decision! The basic story could have made for a good movie but this wasn't the case. The writing was atrocious to say the least. Then there was the acting! Although some of the cast had good reputations they obviously didn't bother with trying to do a good job with this movie. The accents were out loud laughable and the lines were delivered blandly. One part of the movie involved the lead driving from Rome to Barcelona then fighting with an assassin and then driving back again to Rome to save his girlfriend - what stamina! Also for a group of top assassins it was amazing how they kept on Not making sure they definitely killed their targets! Do yourself a favour and give this a miss.

another action thriller B-movie
SnoopyStyle4 May 2023
Teen Jonna is left an orphan after a masked assassin kills her father. Seven years later, assassin Morgan (Henry Golding) is working for Caldwell (Sam Neill). His target is a human trafficker, but another mystery assassin shoots him. His school teacher girlfriend Sophie (Daniela Melchior) is clueless to his real work. He's looking to retire, but Caldwell has a final contract. The new targets are six other assassins and real bad guys. Falk (Noomi Rapace) is a creepy-eyed blonde killer.

This is just another action thriller B-movie. Henry Golding doesn't really have the intensity to lead this type of movie. It tries to steer into his nice guy personality by emphasizing that his targets are all bad guys. It doesn't really seem sensible and Sam Neill is acting too suspicious. The setup is poor and the writing is generally weak. The movie has a lot of competent action, but that's all it has. It's not logical or even fun. This B-movie just lays there without anything compelling.

Actually, better than I expected.
Top_Dawg_Critic14 June 2023
Based on all the wannabe critics and their 1's, and clearly ignoring the bogus 10's, and considering the very low overall rating on here and RT, I didn't expect much going into this, but still had fun watching it.

Clearly it's a B film with a bigger budget, an international production with relatively unknown filmmakers and B-list actors, yet it still managed to pull it off. The acting wasn't bad, and any abilities lacking I'm sure was due to inexperienced cast directing, such as Noomi Rapace's inconsistent, annoying and cringeworthy accent that sounded like a cross between a redneck and a European cabby.

The story itself was actually interesting and engaging, albeit poorly executed and a missed opportunity. The directing was on-point, especially for a B film, but the main problem here was the screenplay. There was too much unnecessary and gibberish dialogue, and many long, dragged out and unnecessary scenes. There were also many plot and technical issues, and some logic defying scenes, and aside from plucking in random secondary characters, there wasn't much character development. I could overlook that had there been less filler and nonsense in between the main yet clunky narrative, but the nearly 2-hour runtime simply had too much filler, and the plot trotted along too slowly for the most part. Had this film removed the filler and been trimmed down to about a 90 min runtime, I feel more people would've enjoyed it.

The cast carried their own, the cinematography, sets and locations were great, and the score surprisingly good especially for a B film. The action scenes could've been filmed better, but were still better than most B grade action films out there. It's no John Wick, but hundreds of times better than most Bruce Willis recent action films, and there were even times when it exceeded my expectations. Thus considering its big budget value, inexperienced filmmakers, and it's B-grade production, it's well deserving of a 7/10 from me.

Very mediocre film with thrills, noisy action, crossfire and steely violent events
ma-cortes12 September 2023
Hyper action/thriller movie about a young terrorist agent who kills people and subsequently seeking relentless revenge. Intriguing and suspenseful movie containing thrills, crosses, double-crosses, shootouts and spectacular action scenes. The plot is simple and plain, it is acceptable and passable at times; but eventually results to be predictable and delivers a 'deja vu´ sensation. The ordinary vengeance story carried out by a relentling young, who finds himself tangled in a deadly conspiracy, while attempting his redemption, but things goes wrong. An assassin, Morgan Ganes (Henry Golding who produced as well), is given a contract to kill seven people around the world only to discover the targets are also assassins who have been hired to kill him. Morgan was enlisted by his mysterious godfather Caldwell (Sam Neill) in a secret organization and he becomes a tough killer operative in Black Ops. Morgan has a beautiful girlfriend, Sophie (Daniela Melchior) with whom he is deeply in love and who pushes him to lead a quiet life and get married, so she gets pregnant. He wants to retire to a settled life, but Morgan is mercilessly chased by two stubborn police inspectors, Agent Vos (Noomi Rapace) and Leon (Jimmy Jean-Louis). Ganes chasing a terrorist cell, and repares to take his vengeance on the mysterious murderers responsible for previous massacre. Agent Vos having secured an invitation to meet him face to face, confronts Morgan.

'Assassin Club' contains suspense, noisy action-packed, intrigue , thrills , shootouts, twists, turns and loads of violence. The film is incredible, action starts and doesn't finish until ending title, there're several shootouts causing a horrible carnage. This is a so-so thriller with strong violence, plot twists, turns, breakneck action-packed and a finale filled with double-crosses, greed and vendetta. The plot is plain and simple, the typical contract killer who wants to get out of the dirty business but things get worse when he tries to leave his bloody past behind, an ordinary theme we have already seen much better in other films.

This Assassin Club (2023) bears certain resemblance to ¨American Assassin¨ and ¨John Wick¨, taking parts here and there. An action thriller directed by Camille Delamarre that adapts the ideas from a well-known and overused script by Thomas Dunn. What results from this unoriginal and convoluted story is all rather poor, though the idea isn't bad, but it is plenty of clichés. Henry Golding's special achievement, giving a passable work , attempting to incorporate his own personal obsessions about international terrorist organizations and producing the film too, along with co-star Noomi Rapace. Noomi Rapace has become herself an expert heroine in various thrillers, action and suspense movies, such as : Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows , Rupture , Stockholm, The drop (2014) , Child 44 (2015) , Unlocked (2017) , What Happened to Monday (2017). Together with Henry Golding and Noomi Rapace showing up various nice actors completing the cast, as the film includes the following: Daniela Melchior, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Sam Neill, Anastasia Doaga, Claudio Del Falco, Gabriele Rossi, among others .

It displays a colorful cinematography by cameraman Matthew Chuang, shot on various European locations in Turín, Piazza Navona, Roma , Italy , Lisboa, Portugal, London, England. As well as thrilling and pulsing musical score by Alexandre Azaria. The motion picture was mediocrely but professionally directed by Camille Delamarre and what now ensues is generally weak and nothing new to watch here. Filmmaker Camille Delamarre (Brick Mansions, Transporter legacy, The Way, Into the night, Cannes Confidential) gives the action a dance-like quality and the whole movie lasted various months for production, idea, script, casting, filming, etc. Rating: 4.5/10. Passable and acceptable, though inferior action movie. The picture will appeal to explosive action fans .

Disappointing!!!
daveparrajb18 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The movie had too many things that did not make sense. One of the assassins, Martinez had only killed one person. That does not make him an assassin. Assassins usually are people who have killed more than once. Assassins make sure the target is dead. Too many instances where the target lives. Policemen without bullet proof vest.

Multiple policemen when to catch and kill the main assassin , but when the main carácter asked for help to the police. Only one agent went to the rescue. The end was not the expected. These are the type of movies that make you mad. Silly actions of "professionals / Assassins"

Disappointing Bondian failure
nigel_cummings30 April 2023
Dreadful. Badly cut. AWFUL SCRIPTING! A waste of talent. Could have been 10 out of 10 for Golding, Rapace and Neill, but this film lost its way hafl way through. Its clear Golding's career is failing fast, he looks wrecked. Not unlike Chris Pine' in his recent efforts. Neill is good, he was ill when he made this trash, but shines - bet he was glad to get his cheque and leave this utter dross hehind him . I hope Holding's career picks up, a few more stinkers and he's finished - get down to the gym mate, you've let yourself go big time, not good for 36! Disappointing, oh well! Better luck next time!

Nice cast & action
gsasfa2 February 2023
It's a pure Kill Film, nothing more and nothing less, you can put your brain on hold, sit back and try to relax.

Very refined in its visual presentation, taking a no-holds-barred approach with its content & providing heavy doses of pulse-pounding entertainment that many viewers will want to revisit again n again.

Here was a movie that delivered exaxtly what I paid for. I went on a Friday night. Got a burger and a beer at the bar next to the theater, then got to watch a perfect Friday night movie. We need more of these types of films. Thrilling, edge of your seat action. Cool characters. Beautiful women.

Killer cast, beautiful cinematography and stunts wowww.

Nice action movie!
joy_rebel31 January 2023
Great movie with an amazing star cast! The cinematography matches the dynamics of the film! Scenario, classic but not inferior to the class of the genre!

The film keeps in good shape for the entire viewing, without critical lyrical digressions!

The interweaving of the plot will eventually lead you to the euphoria of a happy ending!

When viewing, you will see new faces that played surprisingly well!

We wish everyone a pleasant viewing in the world of action in which you need to be careful without missing a missed minutes Assassin Club get 10 for style, dynamic, cast and stunt! Enjoy!!!!!!!!

Kill-Me-Please Club
cahidi6 May 2023
This crime thriller is your run-of-the-mill assassin movie. Henry Golding and Noomi Rapace plays assassins who go around killing their targets. Yadda yadda yadda... He has a sweet heart, she's a cold-blooded murderous c-word. Blah blah blah.... You must have been able to guess by now that it's no different than any other assassin movies. And you're right, but still.. if you have nothing else to watch and you're craving an action movie, this one isn't so bad. Noomi was amazing, as always. She had me rooting for her, instead of Henry. In spite of being the antagonist, her character is more likable to me. LOL.

So disappointed
disnotbetty-101957 June 2023
Morgan (Henry Golding) is one of the top assassins in the world but when he becomes the target of another assassin he decides it is time to retire. However his handler Caldwell (Sam Neill) has already booked him on a final mission before for retiring.

"Six separate contracts and each one pays a million dollars" - Caldwell There is just one catch... they are all killers, paid assassins. Morgan refuses, but when he and his girlfriend are attacked in the park by another assassin, he has no choice.

"Fact is Morgan they are coming for you whether you accept it or not. This is a game and if you want live you have play" - Caldwell Now it's kill or be killed among the top assassins in the world, pitted against each other to the death.

Such a Awesome cast and the story idea sounds good, but this movie is very poorly written, and so predictable. Henry Golden is just not believable as this assassin. Not even Noomi Rapace can save this movie. I am So disappointed.

Easy to Finger
nogodnomasters7 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The film jumps around in the beginning as I broke out the map and string. A man is assassinated in Progue. His daughter (Anastasia Doaga) survives. We jump to seven years later in Sweden. Assassin Morgan (Henry Golding) the protagonist is lined up ready to kill a sex trafficker when he is shot at. There is a shooting spree. Morgan escapes and witnesses his target being killed by the person trying to kill him. He contacts Caldwell (Sam Neill) his mentor and the guy who gives Morgan assignments. It is clear Caldwell id not being straight. Morgan wants out, but must do six more contracts. There is a total of 7 (or 6) assassins all contracted to kill each other for one million dollars. It seems crazy. Meanwhile there is a police force tracking the kills. It isn't hard to figure out from the opening, and the plot is explained at fifty minutes into the feature, but there are some twists to follow.

Noomi Rapace falls right into character as Falk, one of the assassins. I felt they needed to drop one of the assassins as it made the film too long. Assassins killing assassins has been done before and better, but typically as a revenge film.

Guide: F-word. Near sex. No nudity.

What a terrible film.

As an action movie fan, this looked fairly decent when I saw the trailer. It had all the signs that it could be good, fight scenes, some good actors and an idea of assassins targeting one another. What could go wrong?

Well.

The whole movie is a mess. It's completely dark and unwatchable. It's so dark and set at night but even the day time scenes are inside dark buildings. The camera work is awful and seems slightly sped up and on the fight scenes, you cannot see what's going on. The plot is ridiculous and the acting is bad, considering the 3 usually great actors on board. The actiing is especially from Rapace. What's her accent even meant to be? A terrible movie.

Just awful.
russellalexanderwilliams10 January 2024
This has got to be one of the worst films of recent years. An absolutely incomprehensible plot line, awful acting and too many hacky action film cliches to count.

The cast is pretty respectable on paper, Noomi Rapace, Sam Neil, Henry Goulding. They should all immediately sack their agents for getting them involved in this absolute turd of a film.

The story line flips all over the place, with so many holes in it that it makes zero sense and the script is so corny it makes you cringe.

In some cases an average movie can be lifted by good action set pieces, but even those were average and all stuff that's been done a million times before.

In conclusion, this film has zero redeeming features, don't waste your time on it.

it was nice
gurarieleviav26 February 2023
The movie was interesting, suspenseful, good characters, an innovative story that I still didn't know. Although I would have liked to get to know some of the characters in the film more, but it didn't turn out that way.

The director does need to work on the editing skills of his people because that was the only part of the movie that was bad - the transitions between scenes... The actors are very good and in general the movie was nice that's why I gave 7.

I personally think that the film, which is almost two hours, can be compressed into half an hour less (if not more).

Those who go to see this movie should come in a good mood and not expect a crazy blockbuster with crazy things.

Yes, there were unpleasant scenes, so those who are sensitive to blood and disgusting things may not need to see this movie.

The main actor did the job properly but apart from him and a very small number of other actors, it seemed that most of the actors did not want to act in this movie at all and were forced to.

In short - a film that can be seen when there is nothing else to see.

So much potential!!
ruminative115 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This had the potential to be such a good movie!! It just didn't flow well and the ending sucked! I enjoyed most of it but it definitely had the potential to be way better than it was. The story wasn't smooth and it lacked a certain level of charm or charisma. Like I said...that ended was just horrible. I request a do over or something. 🤣🤣🤣 The way the main character visited the girl to tell her the whole story was weird. Then I was thinking, if he knows the villain so well, why would he tell the girlfriend to come back!? He can't be that stupid. He knew it wasn't safe!! Why did Leon just run into the room like that with no vest? Did he really not think she was going to harm him? What? And then the very last part on the street...I just refuse to believe that the most intelligent and diabolical of them all would really just walk away like that. I'm confused really. I feel cheated and I'm shocked I watched the whole thing through. I guess I was hoping it would get better. Lol.

Punches Way Above Its Weight Class!
redbaron-861922 May 2023
Highly underrated film. I thought this film would just be a little relief from a boring work night; but, I was pleasantly surprised. Very decent plot, nice action that did not try and bite off more than it could chew and decent acting, especially from Sam Neil, who moves effortlessly between being an unflappable handler to a desperate man caught in his lies. He most likely raised the bar for the rest of the cast, except perhaps for Noomi Rapace, who may have driven close to the edge with an almost over the top portrayal of an assassin playing both sides of the street. The story moves quickly, albeit a bit predictably except for the unnecessary twist at the end. Altogether well worth a watch and a pleasant surprise.

It's a B-movie, what more can I say...
imseeg9 May 2023
Sam Neil and Noomi Rapace are co-starring in supporting roles in this movie. Those 2 (once great) actors were the reason I started watching this movie. How disappointing it turned out to be...

The bad: despite the presence of these 2 (once great) actors, they both UNDER perform. Their screen presence is less than I hoped for and the real leading actor has got NO actor's charisma whatsoever.

What I feared it would be (an ordinary B-movie) turned out to be exactly that: a cheaply made copycat gangster movie that is severely lacking in any sort of thrill or suspense.

Not any good then? Some of the action scenes are solid. But those are few and even during those few action scenes lots of stupid credibility flaws made me cringe alot.

Recommended to be entirely avoided, even for Sam Neil or Noomi Rapace fans...

When you decide to make adjustments in your life, your profession changes the lives of others and those who close to you. When your participation as a mercenary involves all risks! Defending your credo no matter what, you go to the end to survive!

All of the above characterizes the main character Henry Golding in the role of a hired killer who started with job where changes the rules, which endangers the life of his half! For survival, all that is needed is to eliminate all enemies, all without exception. Assassin Club - welcome to the limits from which there are two exits, kill or be killed!

It really makes you realize the ruthless and opportunistic mindset of the wealthy.
noshouse5 September 2023
The wealthy know that assassins kill for money. Of course, it can also be designed so that hitmen kill themselves due to misleading information for the sake of money. Not revealing one's identity to the assassin is crucial, but this movie does depict a blind spot for assassins. Because assassins need to leave no trace both before and after their actions, not many people can share their experiences. This also leads to a lack of moral values among assassins, as the film often shows Golding's helplessness and the importance of intelligence exchange among hitmen. After watching the movie, you might feel that money-driven assassins are indeed bad people, without any moral constraints, because both assassins and henchmen who accompany the wealthy lack a clear moral compass.

What did I just watch?!
bayosobola6 May 2023
This is my first review on imdb and I was compelled to subscribe so I can vent my annoyance in words about how underwhelming this movie is. Story line is bland and the dialogue is more of what you'd expect from inexperienced z list actors. The ending felt like they got confused about the original plot they had in mind and just wanted to wrap up quickly or they ran out of budget. Henry Golding should stay of action movies. Sam Neil looks like he couldn't be bothered about his character. Hopefully, there wouldn't be a sequel or prequel this mess of a movie...

1hr 53mins that I can never regain.

LIKE WATCHING A CAR CRASH AND REALISING BOTH CARS HAVE BEEN IMPROVED IN THE COLLISION
djmcdonogh4 May 2023
The film in question, an intriguing exploration into the realm of experimental cinema, certainly left a lasting impression on its viewers. From the opening frames, it became apparent that this was a movie determined to defy conventions and challenge traditional storytelling techniques. However, while some may find merit in its audacity, others might struggle to find any redeeming qualities within its nonsensical narrative.

The cinematography, with its deliberate disregard for aesthetics and visual coherence, showcased a disconcerting lack of artistic vision. Shots appeared haphazardly composed, lacking any discernible purpose or meaning. It seemed as if the camera itself had fallen victim to a bout of indifference, capturing mundane and uninteresting scenes with an unflinching dedication to mediocrity.

The performances, or lack thereof, failed to ignite even a glimmer of interest or emotion. The actors appeared detached and disinterested, delivering their lines with a robotic monotony that drained any potential life from the characters they portrayed. It was a masterclass in insipidity, leaving viewers wondering how such a talented ensemble could manage to convey absolutely nothing of substance.

The screenplay, if one could call it that, seemed to revel in its own incoherence and lack of purpose. Scenes unfolded with no logical progression or narrative cohesion, leaving viewers grasping at straws in search of any semblance of meaning. It was as if the writer had intentionally set out to confound and confuse, creating a labyrinthine mess of disjointed sequences that served no discernible purpose other than to frustrate and alienate the audience.

The pacing, or lack thereof, added to the overall sense of tedium and monotony that permeated the film. Scenes dragged on interminably, seemingly devoid of any intention or direction. Each passing minute felt like an eternity, as the narrative meandered aimlessly from one inconsequential moment to the next. It was a test of endurance, challenging viewers to withstand the onslaught of boredom without succumbing to the temptation of slumber.

The production design, characterized by its lackluster and uninspired aesthetic, did little to elevate the film's overall appeal. Sets appeared drab and lifeless, devoid of any creativity or attention to detail. It was as if the production team had simply thrown together a mishmash of random objects and called it a day. The lack of visual stimulation only served to compound the overwhelming sense of ennui that permeated the viewing experience.

The soundtrack, if one could call it that, consisted of a cacophony of disjointed noises and jarring sounds. It seemed as if the composer had abandoned any notion of melodic harmony or auditory pleasure, instead opting for a collection of grating tones that assaulted the eardrums with reckless abandon. It was a sonic assault that added yet another layer of discomfort to an already excruciating viewing experience.

In conclusion, this film's attempt at avant-garde experimentation ultimately fell flat, offering little more than an exercise in frustration and disappointment. Its nonsensical narrative, lackluster performances, and uninspired production elements left viewers questioning the very purpose of its existence. While it may find a niche audience among enthusiasts of the bizarre and incomprehensible, for the average moviegoer, it is an experience best avoided.
