Cringy- In The Best Way Possible
paradisiacpublishing14 March 2020
If you're a fan of quirky, complicated and collaborative feature-length mysteries you will get a kick outta this one. Although the acting is bad-distracting versus bad-ridiculous in places, overall, this thing carries itself well and has enough purposeful (I am going to go ahead and assume) AND accidental issues both with continuity and structure that it gets you thinking AND laughing. Extremely fun film that you'll regret not taking the time to watch.

Movie Review "Steele Wool" (indie movie)
Storytelling20012 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was entertaining. It didn't become predictable. It had twists that I didn't see coming. There were scenes in it that I haven't seen in other movies.

I really enjoyed the comedy and the relationship between Daphne and Tony. They were very funny together. The movie was shot well, the acting was very good, and I liked the music that was in the scenes. The music made the movie more entertaining.

My favorite scene was when Daphne and Tony posted the printouts on the wall and Daphne had to learn about each weapon! It was unique, and it's clearly a sign of great screenwriting/storytelling.

The soundwave weapon seems out of place for this movie. The soundwave weapon seems like it belongs in a Sci-Fi/Action movie.

I'm a screenwriter, so I'm able to appreciate a lot of the screenwriting/storytelling techniques that the movie displayed. This movie is one of the better micro-budget independent movies that I've seen.

fun but...
ops-525356 July 2020
Extremely chaotic and shifting in suspence and comedy. because its a comedy about a deaf woman who has a deaftifying love against her abusive partner, kills him like a deaf woman do, are being hired in by hired killers to do the job as a hired killer.

there a lots of money and pride in the kill for hire profession, and the devious killeress dives into the project with or without batteries in her hearing aid, and makes this madening tumbing ride towards wealth and eardrumming fame like in a turner and hooch style black comedy version.

the female lead really does her job as deaf, her mimics and way of vocabular expression are a 1 hundred percent hit, so do also the male lead who has written and directed and most surtainly paid for this whole operation steel wool.

the rest of the cast gives you the steretypical image of the underworld, all delivering well. there are parts, though few, that couldve been arranged differently and the end section are weird, but overall its a warpspeeding story that will bring joy and happiness to y'all, if pimping cider or beer with a paper clip in your ear.

the grumpy old man recommends a watch, after all its up to you to consider, i saw it and liked it.

Incredible Indie Watch
swammiii14 March 2020
Coming into this film, I had no set expectations on what I was going to watch. Overall, this is an enjoyable film that does well in story development and keeps the watcher entertained along the way. There is a lot of subtle humor that is sprinkled throughout the film that makes it a bit more enjoyable personally. The narrative is one that isn't necessarily new to the film industry, but the protagonist and their characteristics are definitely a new approach. I enjoyed most of the acting and character development. I can say that for an indie film, I give this film applaud and appraise for what they were able to do. If there are any negative aspects to the film, there were some shots that when cut, the actors were in different positions or the audio was off in dialogue. This wasn't a huge problem to my watching experience as this was minimal to what I saw. Overall, this is an impressive indie film and would definitely check it out if this genre is within your taste.

Solid cinematography, great use of VFX

Warning: Spoilers
This was one of the first Indie films I had ever watched, and man, what an experience. I understand that the Indie genre is unconventional versus the typical Hollywood film, but this was a pretty decent one! As a filmmaker myself, I could appreciate the cinematography, use of angles, ace drone shots, and VFX. The dialogue was a little too elementary for my attention span, and there wasn't enough volleying. However, I did like the character development in one, particularly! What I enjoyed the MOST is that it was a very original piece, clearly unapologetic about its approach and style and that's what I'm finding the Indie genre to be. All in all, pretty solid!

Dark but different
jesusblessyou-6166111 March 2020
The film is very entertaining but I gave it 4 stars because the profanity was fluently expressed in this production and it's cringy at times.

Daphne is my fave character because it would just be the average dark genre of film without her.

The script was pretty decent just hoped the profanity would stop at some point in time, overall interesting.

A Well Captivating Movie to Keep You Watching
emilymariah11 March 2020
I just completed watching this amazing movie, everything about it is just fantastic, the characters are well displayed and even the storyline is one that you will really love to watch and follow. Not forgetting the sound and picture quality; very fabulous indeed; I can't complain about it, it is a very nice movie to watch.

Bring on the imitators
claudiasoisson19 February 2020
OK, where to start? This guy did a film all on his own, a one-man wrecking crew. It should have sucked. Seriously. But somehow, it not only doesn't suck, it's REALLY GOOD! Sure, you can just sit back and watch the movie and have a great time. Or, you could, like me, become totally inspired to do your own film this way. This is "Star Wars" for a new generation of no-budget filmmakers. Forget the old rules, Cappello shatters them. He proves that all you need is a little bit of - OK, a whole lot of - resourcefulness and something to say. Bring on the imitators!

Incredible; Would recommend!
heavenizgreat9 March 2020
This film was an incredible movie had me guessing throughout the story line . Saw the completion after clasps and looks like there will be a section two turning out soon. Love the dull satire and incredible shots they have. One of those to observe again as it has those entertaining, cool nuances that I have an inclination will continue uncovering themselves.

An Interesting Indie Movie
dfunzy9 March 2020
About the movie "Steele Wool" -- Well, the story is different. The heroes aren't heroes. They're offbeat characters. The acting is quite good. The film is worth watching.

The premise: What happens when a religious woman, a housewife, kills her abusive husband, who a gang of bad guys, who happen to be hit men, also want dead and have placed a reward on his head. Well, they see the housewife as a perfect assassin and hire her to kill people. This lady assassin doesn't mind killing bad guys, but after completing her first assignment she finds out the guy she killed was good guy, and she has remorse and her employers think a remorseful assassin is a risk to their organization, and so she becomes a liability to be eliminated, and so what happens next?

The lady is accompanied by dude, an ex-beau, who now sees her as a sister, and he and she, go on a dark, comical journey through a kind of hell, but do they find redemption at end? Well ... Watch the movie.

There's a lot of R-rated language.

This movie was great to see
hulettgina13 March 2020
The film is slickly paced. Easily one of the best dark comedies I've ever seen which truly makes me feel villainous enjoying it so much. The personalities between the two main leads makes for a wonderful relationship. It's not a 10 but deserved a 8/10.

A Great Lesson in Guerrilla Filmmaking
plocander-355603 March 2020
In today's world of studio-only films primarily derived from the safety of comic books, Steele Wool is one of the first true debuts into solo filmmaking, fortunately blessed with a talented writer/director with a veteran eye for high-production values on essentially a zero budget. Cami Varela's performance is sublime and understandably challenging for an actress with a true disability. She deserved the film festival awards she received for her performance, and the film itself is also deservedly worthy of the festival awards it received. This should launch a new generation of films, and a new era in guerrilla filmmaking, created by filmmakers unbound by studio rules and subpar box office paranoia.

And, oh yeah, Steele Wool is a lot of fun, too! Definitely worth seeing.

Funny and suspenseful!
hstiener10 March 2020
It took me about 15 minutes to get into it. Once I did, it is a film definitely worth watching. It has all the elements of a thriller but with some really humorous moments. Other reviewers call it a black comedy and I agree, but with a quirkiness. The chemistry between the 2 leads is amazing! They play off each other perfectly. The film held my attention and I was on the edge of my seat. The story in its dark subject matter, was inspiring. Highly original!

Solid Indie Film That has you at the edge of your seat
alexandermazal10 March 2020
This movie was solid. It would have benefitted from a higher budget but they did a great job with what they presumably given. The acting was tough in certain sections but storyline really carried the film. The concept of a deaf housewife turned hitman is pretty unique.

A Fun, Amazing Work Of Art
bobeezee29012 March 2020
Just finished watching Steele Wool and I loved every second of it. I have never seen a hitman film like this before. Daphne's sassy sense of adventure and Tony's weird reluctance that turns him into a sort of "yes man" really made this film even more exciting to watch. I loved the representation of the deaf community in the film within the lead actress. Also, Moses scared me, but he turned out to be a good guy with a big heart. These three characters owned this movie. 9.5/10. I recommend this and will be watching it again.

Holds your attention!
halocandy13 March 2020
It was a good movie if you like Tarentino films you'll definitely enjoy this little gem! It started of a little slow but picked up the pace towards the middle. It held your attention right up to the twisty end, the characters were well developed which I loved. Filled with equal parts grit and heart it's a must see!

Ambitiously, Stubbornly, Successfully Itself
TheAll-SeeingI2 March 2020
At its worst, independent filmmaking is a cheaper form of Hollywood vanilla without the professional backbone. But at its best, it runs wherever it wants to, unshackled by box office and tastemaker demands. That's where we find ourselves with the terrifically engaging and uniquely obtuse "Steele Wool."

While the film's descriptors allude to a comedic darkness, there's a warmth here that permeates throughout its richly conceived characters and consistently refreshing scenes which cut again clinical expectations in the most ambitious of ways. The female lead here is particularly fascinating, and the the male lead holds serve in a way that empowers her to most fully shine.

Like a "Napoleon Dynamite," for example, it's tough to explain "Steele Wool" to the inevitably confused person sitting next to you at the pub. Except for the fact that its unabashed, resolute uniqueness makes it difficult to conjure comparables. All the more reason this film warrants your immediate and invested attention. - Was this review of use to you? If so, let me know by clicking "Helpful." Cheers!

Steele Wool - Proof that a big Hollywood budget isn't needed to make a good film
catjolleys10114 March 2020
Steele Wool showcases the talents of writer, producer, director and staring actor Frank Capello. This indie film is proof that a big Hollywood budget isn't needed to make a good film. It is a passion project which is well worth a watch! At times the low budget is apparent but having said that, this indie has qualities that some Hollywood blockbusters lack!

It is an enjoyable film. There are moments where you are so engaged that you can't look away and there are moments where you find your mind wondering elsewhere. For me, the opening was the weakest element of the film... It dragged a little too much. Once the opening credits were shown, the film sprung to life and gained pace!

I enjoyed the lead actors and loved the dynamic between the characters of Daphne and Tony. Their relationship worked on so many levels. They took you on a journey with them... they made you laugh, at times they frustrated you... they were likeable, loveable and real.

Steele Wool is very watchable. It is a great movie in many ways... my biggest criticism would be the lack of pace in places.

Good story line, great characters ... worth a watch!

Lovable Indie Film
artisparkerjr11 March 2020
This movie was very creative in my eyes. The plot caught my attention but the sense of humor kept me watching. On the technical side the audio could be better but the editing was also done nicely. I appreciate how the plot includes a deaf woman. Its always cool to see different talents on the screen. Thumbs up!
