Amazing.

4 out of 5 stars.

The episode continues with Lyra meeting new characters and Yorick. Yorick is intense. He is the armored bear and the voice cast is perfect. The cast ensemble is growing and still good. The writing and direction is sharp in telling this epic journey of a story. Can not wait to see were it goes next.

Wonderful

Wonderful story line and takes me back to the books. I wonder though how many people never read them since Golden Compass was book 1 in the series so of course there are many take offs from it.

Just beautiful

Previous episodes were pretty as well, but this one just floored me with the visuals. So many scenes were shot so well and gave just an extraordinary feeling of the north. Yorek and Lee are portrayed very well, they have the same feeling as in the books. The episode was very exciting and fun to watch overall.

Great continuation of the plot, can't wait for the next episode.

Yorick was incredible. Not so keen on the voice, but the visuals were amazing. Definitely amping it up on every episode so far.

This episode was great!

First of all. Yes this series is similar to the Golden Compass. Why? Well because it is based on the same book... and I love the book series! This episode was great and really similar to what I imagined while reading the book. The actors are great and I cant wait for more! Especially when you know how crazy everything will get later on! Good job with this series so far! It is a dream coming true.

First I didn't watch a movie second I didn't read any books..why I give high rating I'm the guy who enjoys Charisma of writing screen and astonishing cinematography.. And great directing and of Course I'm addicted to fantasy world.. This episode blow my mind for sure.. First scene take my breath of how it was the beautiful atmosphere and the the bear scenes and then cold atmosphere of locations and everythings I don't know how this season gonna ends but I'm really speechless I can't describe how this is so beautifully made.

Armour
Prismark1025 November 2019
Lin-Manuel Miranda the creator of the hit musical Hamilton appears as Lee Scoresby. The character played by Sam Elliot in The Golden Compass as a cowboy, what else. Miranda's aeronaut is more Han Solo here.

Scoresby is looking for a bear who has lost his armour. Lyra searches for the armour for the bear and recruit both it and Scoresby in the Gypsums search for their lost children.

The CGI of the bear was very good. Miranda bought something different as Scoresby. However the series has some problematic pacing issues. This should never been an eight part series.

As for Lord Asriel, he has been captured off screen and being held captive.

I thought Mrs Coulter found Lyra in the previous episode with her spy fly. In this episode she is more interested in manipulating the Magisterium to her will and getting an answer to a question she has. Finding Lyra was not a priority.

[7.4] Growling and gasing
cjonesas31 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 4: Good acting (Dafne Keen's acting is convincing and she's already a good actress), filming, cinematography, mid-actions, show of emotions, some colorful scenes and Panserbjørn - the armored bear.

As far as the flow and vibe are concerned, it's improving a lot and there are some elements of brilliancy and the story well develops further with nice twists.

Nearly gave up on the show after this episode...

As someone that hasn't read the books growing up as a kid but had this recommended by a number of adults -- the whole series has a rushed, poorly developed, inconsistent feeling to it. I'm struggling to find what's good in this adaption besides some nice shots of university libraries. I'm not sure it's the acting that below par or just the characters. I would say just about every character is fairly annoying and shallow and this episode just solidifies the lack of character substance at a point where it would be nice to see some depth unfolding. I will try to make it through the rest of the series but this is definitely a kids story for kids with little hope of redemption for adults.

Trading my home for the road again.
slak96u25 August 2023
I feel like this series, or at least the start of it, is best appreciated by those who've read the source material. I have not, and likely won't. The first 3 episode's feel like by the book fan service, those who haven't read the source are absolutely lost and trying to follow what is going on. It's honestly tiresome, trying to figure out this "universe."

It took me 4 episodes(this one) to appreciate the story, visually and musically the series is fantastic, near flawless. But... the story has been stale, by-the-book, a book I've never read. Yet, I stuck around, if for no other reason than the fantastic production, and acting.

I feel rewarded, and I'm glad I stuck around. My honest opinion, this was the best episode of this series, thus far. Maybe all that was needed was a scoundrel, a foil, and some levity. Plus a dope bear.

The great GoT episodes weren't by the book interpretations, nor was Harry Potter. Some creative license need to taken to make interesting television.

Enjoying this series. But why is Lin-Manuel Miranda not credited for his role in His Dark Materials.

The Armoured Bear
claudio_carvalho27 February 2023
The gyptians arrive to Trollesund looking for the kidnapped kids. The navigator Lee Scoresby also arrives at Trollesund seeking out his old friend, the armoured bear Iorek Byrnison. Coram goes with Lyra to visit Martin Lanselius, who is the witches' consul, expecting to send a message to the witch Serafina Pekkala that he knows. Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter has a meeting with Cardinal Sturrock and he tells her that she will be punished for what she did to the Jordan College. However, she tells that she has captured Lord Asriel that is her prisoner but if she continues as leader of the project General Oblation Board, she will deliver Asriel later to the Magisterium. Lyra tries to bring Iorek to fight with the gyptians, but the bear is working in a metal shop as pert of his punishment for fighting in Trollesund. But Lyra promises to retrieve his armour is he teams-up with the gyptians.

"Armour" is a great sequel of the journey of Lyra in "His Dark Materials". The hateful Mrs. Coulter is a manipulative and evil woman, showing to the Magisterium how powerful she is. The special effects are amazingly impressive and it is hard to the viewer to say what is real and what is CGI. My vote is eight.

Title (Brazil): "Armour"
