So many emotions
coolliegal422 April 2019
In every episode they unravel so much and give you a taste of how well a true series can be produced. I was genuinely surprised especially towards the end. I did not know what to expect in a few scenes and I loved that they were able to surprise me two times!! This is the reason why I am still watching. I don't want to be able to guess what's next or else it wouldn't be as fun as it is. Keep up the good work, this is great.

An actting trio masterclass.

Bill Hader, Henry Winkler, and Sarah Goldberg are all great here. I said to myself give him/her the emmy like 3 times. The ending we definitely didn't see it coming, and goes on to show this is a comedy at it's core with dramatic elements at the side.

WHAT?!

I love show! I love the blending of comedy, drama AND crime! Just curious why Sally had Sam's phone number saved in her phone if she despised him as much as she lead on. The final scene is such a TWIST!

A masterpiece in television

Throughout it's run, Barry has consistently produced amazing episodes, but this is a new level. Similar to chapter 7 of last season, this episode has shown that humor is not the only thing this show has going for it. Bill Hader and Alec Berg have created masterpieces, and I won't be surprised if This episode racks up a few Emmy nominations. Holy moly's that was good

Great ending!

What an episode. I was convinced there were only 2 possible outcomes from the ending - but the writers thought of a 3rd! Wow! Bill Hader acted the hell out of every scene too. Probably the best episode so far.

Warning: Spoilers
I thought the series was falling flat until this episode. Barry is back in full force after this tremendous episode with a nice twist to end it.

Dramatic!!
and_mikkelsen20 May 2023
This was such a great episode more focused on characters and drama, but still with the humor in place!

This episode focuses a lot on Sally and Barry and the truth about their past, hence the play/scene about themselves they wanna perform! Therefore this episode has some great shocking moments that managed to catch me off guard!

There were some emotional and dramatic scenes that really elevated this episode! The relationship between Sam and Sally played a major role and really surprised me!

The acting was also on top! Bill Hader was amazing showing all kinds of emotions as Barry is showing his more human side as he reflects on his past and who he is!

The ending was an actual WHAT!?

Warning: Spoilers
I never ever expected the twist ending for sure, and I can't wait to see the fate of Ronny Proxin because he has no chance against Barry for sure.

It's only now that I'm watching Barry, and it's hard to believe that at the time this episode debuted, it would be another three (yes three!) years before season three debuted.

1. Barry, Sally and Sam have dinner 2. Barry is pissed 3. Loach finds out about Barry

This episode was excellent. Perfect buildup. This was an episode that really delve into Barry and his character. First, we can see that Barry tries to hold in his anger when he first meets Sam. He succeeds in it but lashes out later at one of Hank's men. This one was the one that's good at shooting so I suspect that part of his anger also came from the fact that he seems to be in a similar position as his younger self. Barry also tells Sally that it's ok to have secrets and not all our outwardly appearance has to match the truth. Sally is slightly confused and surprised but for Barry, this advice was coming from the heart. He can't live if he doesn't follow it!

Barry almost kills Sally (or Sam) as he followed Sally to Sam's hotel and was ready to fire. Sally still couldn't stand up to Sam but nothing significant happened thankfully. Barry regrets his actions and he finds Gene to confide in. We finally find out what Barry has done and it's clear that he should not share it with anyone else because it's basically murder out of anger. Once this dark secret was out, Gene and Barry bonded together by their brokenness. It's not clear if Gene truly cared about him as the billing line was hilarious. Gene has officially taken the position of Barry's father figure, next to Fuches. Both take hope that they can change for the better, past their regretful history.

The ending was spot on because the audience has been paranoid that Loach was onto Barry and arrest him. But hilariously, it was just him to ask Barry another favor to kill someone. Barry can never escape. Another great subversion of expectation and a fantastic episode!

Really Good, I Enjoyed It [8.8/10]

My Reaction / Review for Barry Season 2 Episode 4 ''What?!'' (S2. E4): Episode 3 was great and I gave it a rating of 8.5/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Fuches still helping the police to catch Barry, that sucks. Sally's ex husband is looking for trouble. Barry doesn't seem to be happy about it, I hope he will have the chance to punch the guy in the face. Wow Barry almost killed Sam, I didn't expect that. After all there was more to the story of Barry and the Army. I love every scene with Gene. Seems like Fuches doesn't wanna work with the police anymore? And Barry falls right into the police's trap, that sucks. Lol the police officer wants Barry to kill the new boyfriend of his ex wife? That's nuts, I didn't expect it. My rating for this episode is 8.8/10.

Finally, some big moments happened in this episode. The show is still not great, but this was a step in the right direction from a storytelling perspective.
