Cut (I) (2000)
was this supposed to be a horror or comedy?
24 July 2000
I was really keen about seeing this movie since there was so much hype around it. But boy was this a big let down. Cut would have to be the unscariest movie I have ever seen and why would Molly Ringwald agree to star in it? She was really terrific as bitchy Vanessa and despite her giving a great performance you couldn't help but wonder if it was for her role or was she really thinking what a mistake she made?

It was weird hearing Kylie's Aussie accent again and despite her small role it would have to be her best role, well, since Neighbours.

Jessica Napier gave a good performance and will have a long term career but the rest of the cast were mediocre.

I did not find this movie scary one bit and my friends and I laughed the whole way through that we forgot that it was a horror film. The "story" behind the killer was very weak and the spook factor was very lacking. My advice is to avoid this at all costs.

Aah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
24 July 2000
I saw this last night and it was one of the worst movies I have seen. Bill Pullman is a great actor but doing films like this doesn't give him the credit he deserves. Claire Danes gave a good performance but Kate Beckinsale was very weak and Daniel Lapaine was very good too despite limited screen time.

A few things was missing from this film that being tracking down Nick, exposing the corruption and finding out who of the two was responsible for the fiasco. Also the ending could have been better.

This was a huge let down and one to be avoided.

Wow!!!!!
20 July 2000
The Sixth Sense would have to one of the greatest films ever. Everything from the writing, directing and the acting was superb. The fact that you couldn't pick the ending made it even more enjoyable - that's the films I like. If you know what is going to happen it sort of spoils the movie for you. I had to see it several times to pick up what I missed and seeing it for the second, third time etc etc makes you realize you should have seen it coming.

Bruce Willis is a legend. He is such a versatile actor and the fact that this movie made a lot of people stand up and take him seriously (which should have been done years ago) is very rewarding. Haley Joel Osment was amazing. No words can describe the performance he gave. He will definitely be around for a very long time. Toni Collette was also very good and the chemistry between her and Haley was unbelievable.

This movie will definitely go down as one of the best of the 20th century and should not be missed.

Drew Barrymore at her comic best
18 July 2000
Drew Barrymore is definitely one of todays best actors. Her performance in this movie is unbelievable. It makes you laugh and cry at the same time and It sure does bring back alot of those high school memories as I'm sure there is a Josie at every school.

David Arquette can do no wrong as well. He is just as likeable in this movie as he was in the Scream series. Molly Shannon, Michael Vartan & Leelee Sobieski were also good as too were Jeremy Jordan ( his song on the soundtrack is also worth a listen - quite a huge difference to his "right kind of love" days) & the girls playing Gibby, Kristen & Kirsten.Actually it is one of those rare films where the casting is spot on.

If you haven't seen this movie you sure don't know what you are missing because it is definitely one of the best in the "high school genre" of 1999 ( with American Pie) and it is one to add to your video collection.

Deep Blue Sea (1999)
enjoyable movie
18 July 2000
Deep Blue Sea, despite some unbelievable moments, was quite an enjoyable movie. The casting was near perfect (with the exception of Saffron Burrows & Aussie Jacqueline Mackenzie). Samuel L Jackson gave a great performance as did LL Cool J, Thomas Jane & Michael Rappaport.

Renny Harlin is one of todays best directors and the special effects in this movie were quite amazing. It sure makes you think twice about venturing into the water.

Armageddon (1998)
Not just your typical action movie
18 July 2000
When I first saw this movie I was expecting all action no storyline but boy was I wrong. Armageddon has everything. A well written story, the special effects and the terrific acting. It was one of those films that make you care for the characters and you wanted them to win in the end.

Even though there were a few corny moments - it didn't dimish the fact that Armageddon is not your typical action movie. Even the music was very moving. Check it out if you haven't seen it as it would have to be one of the best in the action genre.

Definitely the best in the series
17 July 2000
I am a huge Friday fan and this one is definitely the best. Kane Hodder proves he is Jason Voorhies and his performance is so menacingly real. The fact that it takes place in Manhattan gives the series a real needed boost.Definitely worth a look if you haven't seen it.

15 years on and still as memorable
13 July 2000
This movie is John Hughes at his best. It is no wonder that 15 years on his 80s high school movies are still popular. Even in todays era with Dawsons Creek etc etc - his movies still rate a mention. Ally Sheedy was truly amazing. Even though she only spoke towards the end - she performance alone was mesmerising.

Judd Nelson was also fantastic and he is a very underrated actor. If you haven't seen this movie you don't know what you are missing as this one will sure go down in history as one of the best.

Better than Part II
7 July 1999
The Karate Kid III was a lot better than Part II. The only good bit about Part II was the beginning with Johnny and his gang - maybe the plot should have revolved more around them as Part II definitely need William Zabka and Elisabeth Shue.

Anyway Part III brought us back to the original. Kreese wanted revenge for losing all his students. He enlists his old army buddy to train Daniel in order to get him to avenge his title. Another good factor was the relationship between Daniel and Miyagi - they are more like father and son and even though he kept quiet you could seen the pain in Miyagi's eyes when Daniel's personality became out of control.

My opinion is see Karate Kid II for the first 10 minutes then see Karate Kid III as it was a nice end to Daniel's story.

Anaconda (1997)
Really bad movie
6 July 1999
I first saw Anaconda on a plane two years ago and because I had heard mixed reviews about it - I thought I would watch it. Hey, it had Eric Stolz and Ice Cube in it so of course it could not be bad. Well I was wrong. The Anacondas were so fake that the supposedly scary scenes were more like a comedy. It was funny seeing the reactions of the people on the plane. The older people took their headphones off and the younger people were laughing all the way through it.

Eric Stolz probably was the better performer in this movie even though he was out of action most of the film and Ice Cube and Jennifer Lopez gave good performances and it is good to see that this movie did not ruin their careers.

Jon Voight was the worst performer in this film I could not understand a word he was saying and it was so obvious how he managed to get on board.

This is one movie that you only need to see once and never again.

Trip down memory lane
27 June 1999
Although I wasn't treated as bad as Josie when I was at school, I was definitely her. Watching this movie reminded me so much of what I went through (the constant name calling, being tripped over etc etc for no apparent reason. Why is that just because you are popular it gives you a license to treat the rest of us like dirt?)

Drew Barrymore is such a wonderful actress that so many times during this movie, tears came to my eyes because it was like I was watching myself on screen. I have a younger brother who was popular and he, like Rob does in the movie, became my saving grace - even though I never did become miss popularity.

Anyway, Drew and David Arquette are my favourite actors today and they were great in this movie and it is wonderful that David is getting such great exposure that it has been a long time coming. Jeremy Jordan was also good as was Michael Vartan - I could go on all day about how great he was in this movie.

Never been kissed is definitely one of the better movies in its genre and it is one you must add to your video collection.

Still as good now as it was then
26 June 1999
I can still remember the first time I saw The Karate Kid. It was at the movies with my brother and cousins and we loved it so much that we used to re-enact the tournament scenes.

Even though Ralph Macchio had the lead role - I didn't think he was all that great. This movie belonged to William Zabka. He played his role with a passion that made him so believable in the role of Johnny. It's a shame he hasn't gone on to bigger roles as he is such a good actor.

Even though Elisabeth Shue had a minor role, I thought she was very good, although I didn't believe Ali and Daniel as a couple as there was no chemistry between them - I thought she was better suited to Johnny- any way it is good to see Elisabeth get out of the typecast roles of the girlfriend ( Back to the Future 2 & 3, Cocktail etc etc).

Up until two years ago when it was on television, the last time I saw this movie was when I was 12 years old. When watching it after a 8 year gap, the one thing that surprised me was that The Karate Kid has not aged. It is still as good today as it was 15 years ago and it is one movie that should not be missed.

Se7en (1995)
Good but disturbing movie
23 June 1999
Just like Silence of the Lambs, Se7en hit a nerve with me. Of course they were both good movies, it's just films like these are disturbing because it can happen for real.

The best thing about this movie, besides Morgan Freeman, was Kevin Spacey. Whoever came up with the idea of not letting the public know he was in the movie until you actually saw his face on screen was a brilliant ploy.

Gwyneth Paltrow, gave this dark movie the only light. I think she is a wonderful actress and even though her role was small - her performance was strong.

wonderful movie
23 June 1999
I can't believe the bad reviews Legends of the Fall got when it was released. This would have to be one of the best movies around. Everything from the acting to the directing was brilliant and the scenery was breathtaking.

Anthony Hopkins gave another knockout performance as Colonel Ludlow and Brad Pitt was brilliant as Tristan.Aidan Quinn, Henry Thomas and Julia Ormond were perfectly cast as Alfred, Samuel and Susanna.

The one thing I liked most about this movie was the ending - which I won't spoil. It is rare when watching a movie, you cannot pick the ending. The ending to this movie was so amazing, and the fact that it wasn't obvious what was going to happen made this movie more enjoyable.

James Horner is a master. Just like he did with Titanic, the score for Legends of the Fall took the movie to another level.

The title says it all
16 June 1999
Besides Pretty in Pink, SKOW would have to be my favourite John Hughes movie. Eric Stolz was great as Keith and Elias Koteas was equally good as Duncan (a very underrated actor) but this movie belonged to Mary Stuart Masterson.

It was refreshing to see that the character of Amanda was a nice person - you wanted to hate her because she wanted to be like her rich snobby friends but you couldn't because she had genuine feelings for Keith (even though in the beginning it was used as a way to make Hardy jealous)and in the lead up to the end scenes the audience were shown what exactly Amanda really felt about her life and her "friends" that you couldn't help but feel sorry for her.

I didn't like the way Keith's sister Laura was portrayed. In the beginning she made no hesitation in putting Keith down by reminding him of his status in school but by the end she become concerned for him.

The best part about this movie was the use of unknowns. Instead of casting Molly or the other "brat pack" members it was refreshing to see Eric and Lea (the only two well known young actors) and people like Mary and Elias (who I think is one of the best actors today - has anyone see Fallen??)

I definitely recommend this movie - no matter how many times you see it you always enjoy it.

One of the best shows on tv
11 June 1999
This is probably the best show on tv. Everything from the writing to the acting is great.

Traylor, Ryan and Richard are perfectly cast as Sharon, Berg and Pete and they all have a special chemistry that really comes across on screen.

This show has certain similarities with Seinfeld and Friends but the difference with 2 Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place it is so down to earth that the 3 actors make it funny instead of relying on a lot of celebrity cameos.

JON CRYER AT HIS BEST
11 June 1999
Pretty in pink remains one of my all time favourite movies. I was nine years old when it was first released and have seen it over 50 times. Jon Cryer was amazing as Duckie and the scence where he mimes Try a little tenderness is priceless.

Molly, Andrew and James were great but this movie really belonged to Jon.

If you haven't seen this movie - you don't know what you are missing out on because out of all of the Molly/John movies this was the best.

NOT AS BAD AS OTHER HORROR MOVIES
10 June 1999
I Know What You Did Last Summer, in my opinion, wasn't that bad. Of course it didn't compare to Scream. The only problem is that with one successful horror movie, everyone tries to cash in on its success. In the late 70's we had Halloween (great movie with a story behind it - followed by endless unnecessary sequels) and in 1984 A Nightmare on Elm Street (also great movie and the same outcome as Halloween) all of a sudden horror movies were not popular.

When Scream was released horror was back and so too were a bombardment of movies from this genre. Since Scream ( and its sequel and hopefully the third instalment) IKWYDLS is probably the only other good horror movie out at the moment. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ryan Phillipe are good in this movie but Sarah Michelle Gellar shines. Freddie Prinze Jr is also a very good actor but he didn't really have a whole lot to do in this movie except at the end so it was a shame to see him in a limited role - just like he was again in I Still Know which was an unnecessary sequel and I've heard rumors that next year I Know 3 will be released.

Even though IKWYDLS was good they should have ended it there because the second movie sorely missed Sarah, Ryan and Kevin Williamson.

If you haven't seen this movie I do recommend it but don't bother seeing the sequel because compared to some horror sequels (with the exception of Scream 2 and Halloween H20) it was just run of the mill stuff. With the I Know 3 movie coming out it seems that I Know series is turning into the Friday the 13th movies...

Titanic (1997)
James Cameron at his best
9 June 1999
I have been a long time fan of James Cameron's work. I saw this movie the third day it was out and I had no idea what to expect since there are so many different Titanic movies around. This movie totally blew me away. Everything from the writing to the direction was extraordinary and the actors were so perfectly cast (I am not a Leonardo fan but I thought he was good as Jack). Billy Zane was brilliant as the evil Cal and even though he never showed real feelings towards Rose you knew that he really loved her (remember he went searching for her on the boat at the end). Kathy Bates gave another wonderful performance and Kate Winslet was terrific as Rose - she really held this movie together and I can't believe that she didn't win the Oscar..

Scream 2 (1997)
Had It's moments
9 June 1999
Although not as sharp as the first one, Scream 2 had its moments. Courteney Cox and David Arquette were the two actors that really stood out this time round whereas Neve Campbell as Sidney was again irritating as she was in the first - no offence to the Neve fans.

I won't mention the killers names but the main one was so obvious that I picked it the first time I saw this particular person on screen - the second killer I had a little difficulty picking and I thought this person's motive was weak.

The third Scream movie, hopefully, will be the prequel/sequel scenario so lets hoping some of the characters from the first movie ( mainly Drew, Skeet, Matthew and Rose - who were sorely missed in the second one) will all make return appearances.

Even though Scream 2 wasn't as good as the first I still recommend it because as sequels go - this wasn't all that bad - did anyone see I Still Know ???.

Adam Sandler - the king of comedy
8 June 1999
I am a huge fan of Adam's movies and this one did not disappoint. The Wedding Singer, I think, is his best so far, though some may think Happy Gilmore is. From the opening scene with Steve Buscemi (another legend ) until the end with Billy Idol I didn't stop laughing. Drew Barrymore gave another knockout performance - I have been a huge fan of hers since ET and it is great to see her doing so well !! Honestly, Drew is probably the best actress in Hollywood. Allan Covert as Sammy and Alexes Arquette as George gave strong performances as well. I definitely recommend this movie and if you haven't seen it - you don't know what you are missing.

Scream (1996)
The best horror movie ever.
8 June 1999
Scream would have to be the best film of its genre. Wes Craven is the king of horror. Along with Halloween, Scream actually had a story behind it - which is usually rare with this type of film. Everything from the writing to the acting was brilliant - it is not often you find a cast that suits their character. The only thing I was not happy with was making one of the killers obvious. I picked this character early on in the movie but the second I didn't pick up on until just before Tatum was killed. Drew Barrymore, without a doubt, was the best actor in this film. It was such a shame Casey died 12 minutes into the movie - hopefully with Scream 3 being a prequel/sequel we might get to see Drew in a cameo??

a timeless masterpiece
8 June 1999
I first saw The Breakfast Club 10 years ago when in the 7th grade we had to watch it in English class. It struck a chord with me as even though the labels of the kids in the movie were different as to what they were when I was at school (change the crim to the goth etc. etc) the themes with the popular kids ignoring the outsiders were pretty much the same. Even now, as I work in the education system - the Breakfast Club is still as popular today as it was 14 years ago. I have seen this movie over 50 times and I never tire of it. Allison and Brian are to two characters I related to when I was growing up because since I didn't conform to the popular kids "beliefs" I was automatically ostracised - which was fine by me although my family didn't push me like Brian's or ignored me like Allison's. Judd Nelson gave a powerful performance as John. Even though I am usually a fan of Molly Ringwald's work I think she was miscast in TBC - automatically making me dislike the character of Claire. Emilio Estevez was good as Andrew although making Vernon's character evil and the little use of Carl seemed like a waste. I always hoped there would be a sequel - to see if they remained true to their new friendships on Monday!! I heard a rumour that there may be a sequel with the characters reuniting at their high school reunion. Also the blonde joke that Bender said while crawling in the roof was made up... I know some people were asking about it in one of the web sites for this movie.
