Halloween Ends (2022)
it was great
This movie is very controversial and it's easy to tell why. Michael meyers is underused in this film for sure. But i think it was a good closing chapter. Sure, michael isn't used nearly as much in this as any other of the newest trilogy and there are a lot less deaths, but this one, unlike kills, preferred to spend its time building characters and providing story for where they've been for the past "four years" and introducing a few more characters in this movie.
While michael is underused in this movie, laurie isn't, which is quite the opposite of kills, and it kinda balances it out if you are watching the movies back to back. Laurie made quite a few amazing jokes and became the grandma she always should have been. Allison has a job at the hospital. Lindsay is a bartender, which is the one problem i had with this movie. She was only in like three or four scenes in this movie and i could have used way more of her. Great use of Blüe oyster cult's (don't fear) the reaper. Old people romance. Young people romance. And of course it perfectly closes the book on the michael meyers and laurie strode saga. Give it a watch, don't set standards too high and remember it's a slasher movie and you'll enjoy it.
9/10.
Honor Society (2022)
It was a pretty good movie
The story was decent. The ending was kinda surprising. There are some pretty funny jokes. Great casting. A good feature film debut for Gaten Matarazzo.
Prank Encounters (2019)
It's a good show
I don't know why people are hating on it so much. It's a short prank show that doesn't drag along too much. It's got great reactions from the people involved. They are told from the get-go it's a one day gig so they don't get led on there. And before it gets too bad Gaten heads on in to explain the situation. Give it a watch. Genuinely good show.
Stranger Things (2016)
Definitely a favorite.
The monsters. The 80s nostalgia. The pacing. This show is so well done. It keeps a solid pace and it makes sure to keep everything correct to the time, even the food packages. Definitely recommend watching.
Dear Evan Hansen (2021)
I loved this movie so much, except..
Dear Evan Hansen is an amazing, empowering musical-turned-movie. It really is life changing. I loved it, but it took out two amazing songs from the broadway version: Anybody Have a Map? And Good For You. They are some of my favorite songs from the show, but they were cut. At least they made a medley of them to play in the background of the school assembly. This show depicts the affects lies can have on people. It also raises mental health awareness.
9/10.
Saw II (2005)
Seen better, but have seen worse
This franchise has the escape room feel, but you are trying to make it out with your lives. The sequel isn't as good as the first one, but it is well cast, shot, etc. Give it a watch!
Saw (2004)
Great film
This movie was one of the best horror movies I have seen this year. The intricate traps, the casting, the twist ending. I wouldn't suggest letting people under the age of 13 see it, but that's your call. Enjoy!
Bel-Air (2022)
Fresh prince but not...
I liked the show, don't get me wrong, but it is really different from the original. They swear a lot more, Carlton is a drug addict, Hillary is a social media star, and Ashley is bisexual. I don't have a problem with the last two, because it's not the nineties anymore, but I don't see why Carlton needs to be a druggie. And he's OKAY with the "friends" spitting out racial slurs. Other than that, it's a good show.
6/10.
The Lost City (2022)
Hilarious action/adventure/comedy!
I loved being in the theater viewing this film. With a stellar cast including even Brad Pitt, this movie delivers on many levels. There is an end credits scene!
Morbius (2022)
Amazing film. Loved it. Amazing jobs all around this film
I loved this movie. With some shots reminiscent of The Matrix and the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy, amazing graphics, and a great plot and cast, Morbius delivers completely. I don't know what the critics are saying-they tend to be off with movies anyway. One of them rated Turning Red higher than any other movie they'd ever seen, like Scream, The Batman, Ghostbusters Afterlife, A Quiet Place, which were amazing movies and Turning Red was a pile of crap. Morbius is an amazing movie that had feels from every genre- like The Sixth Sense was. Little bit gorey and a bit shaky at times with the camera, but those are the only not amazing parts of the film. I loved it.
9/10.
Sleepaway Camp (1983)
Sleep away camp is...special... you DEFINITELY won't forget it
This film doesn't waste time getting to the point. A girl's dad got killed, so she moves in with her aunt. Her aunt sends her and her cousin to a camp, only for murders to befall the campgrounds. There is a pedophile in the kitchen, ruthless teenagers, and an INSANE twist at the very end. Watch it on Peacock if you have it. Watch it with friends. Just know it will stick with you after the credits roll!
6/10!
A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)
A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: The Best sequel
Let's start with the good. A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors features the return of Nancy, the original star of the films, minus Freddy, the obvious genre icon that even if you aren't a fan of the genre you have at least heard his name. It also gives Nancy a reason to return to the horror franchise, and a bizarre but good one. Featuring a young Laurence Fishburne as a male nurse, prior to his prominent roles in The Matrix franchise and Ant Man and the Wasp. It had an amazing young cast with a definite new final girl of at least this film.
Now for the bad. Which is a very short list. Some of the teenagers' dreams are a little too childish, including becoming super strong and a magician. Other than that it's an amazing movie and definitely give it a watch. Not as good as the original, I give it a 7/10. Enjoy!
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
They really put their hearts and souls into this one
Somewhat fresh of films like The Hills Have Eyes and Last House on the Left, Wes Craven writes and directs genre staple of the eighties- A Nightmare On Elm Street. A company literally ran out of the founder's garage, (at the time anyway) New Line Cinema, makes its first film of many classics spanning over the genres. With a decently modest budget of one million dollars and only opening in select theaters, A Nightmare On Elm Street becomes a booming box office success, going from a few theaters to almost all of them across the globe.
Johnny Depp's introduction to the film business being a good one and putting Wes Craven even further on the map.
This film is a insane one, not showing the characters fall asleep so you don't know what is real and what is not. Very gorey in certain scenes. Now iconic, A Nightmare on Elm Street deserves a high spot in the genre- unlike most of its sequels.
Prom Night (1980)
Would it be a spoiler to compare the killer to spider man?
Six years ago four kids make a pact to keep the death of a local child Robin Hammond a secret. They thought that were the only ones who knew what had happened, but some else witnessed the occurrence. Now that person strings them along, to eventually plan their revenge during Prom night.
Jamie lee Curtis has a decent new-to-Hollywood performance. With a decent storyline and a great actress, you would think this would have been an amazing movie. Other similar plotted films have been amazing, such as I Know What You Did Last Summer. But you would've thought wrong. With all the teenage drama in the first 45 minutes of a 1 hour 30 minute film, the beginning of this shows just how terrible teen slashers can be. Right as we get to our first kill, we have a cringy bounce-into frame part from the killer. With our second two, he jumps up and down as he stabs the person and then we get a terrible shot of a car getting blown up. We have a decent chase scene and then a humanizing moment with Jamie and the killer.
With a motive of vengeance and a camera job that feels a lot like another Jamie Lee movie, we have a somewhat different somewhat okay horror/slasher film. I would watch it again if I have nothing else to do and it's on tv or something.
4/10.
Psycho (1998)
The casting, the script, the whole thing just didn't sit right...
I know it's obvious, but Vince Vaughn should be nowhere near this franchise. I mean, look at Anthony Perkins. He did an amazing job with the character, especially under Hitchcock's direction. The whole movie is a duplicate of the original, heck the only difference in the script is that Lila told Sam to "hold on while I grab my Walkman." What the hell? I mean if that isn't an advertisement in cinema I don't know what is. Same camera angles, script, even the private detective's death is as cringy as it was in the original. At least in the sixties it was inventive. Only good thing in this one is that you see Vince Vaughn in drag.
1/10.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
I don't like it as much as the first one but...
It was a close sequel. This one dives way more into Danny and other peoples' "shine" then the first one and it shows stuff we didn't see such as the summer after the first one, but the biggest thing that I didn't like was that they didn't reuse the clips from the first one in the flashbacks, because I mean come on, right? But the ending takes place at the overlook hotel- which has been shut down promptly after the events of the first one. It had a ton of strange moments that could have been executed better but other than that it was good.
If you haven't already, I suggest that you watch the shining BEFORE you see this one. I know that should be a given, but people I know haven't seen them in order. I know they had plans for a sequel but let's be honest- at the box office being what it was for this one, that's not happening. But it was good!
8/10.
Ready or Not (2019)
I watched this before radio silence's scream film and..
I loved it. It made characters relatable and interesting. It made a ton of jokes, and made a lot of the rich- people stereotypes, which was played off well. One of the characters spends the majority of the film trying to learn how to use a crossbow. Another one kills the wrong people and the family makes fun of how hated she is.
The main character- final girl- is perfectly crafted. The premise of the movie is that on the night of a young bride's marriage to the man of her dreams, the family has to play a game to honor a tradition of when a new member joins the family. The game that they play is the only deadly one that no one in the family expects and if they don't play the game it will be the demise of the whole family. I loved this movie and I look forward to more Radio Silence projects.
Happy Death Day 2 U (2019)
It was weird that they made a sequel for the first one...
I understand why they made a sequel, because they wanted to capitalize on the first one's success. But the story of this one didn't deserve one, especially that it takes place the day after at the beginning and then changes to an alternate universe on her birthday again??? I have seen films that don't need sequels get sequels, such as Rob Zombie's Halloween and, in other genres, Home Alone and Paul Blart Mall Cop. In certain cases, the only thing a sequel did is ruin the first one, and this is one of them. Give it a try, but be warned of what will happen.
Happy Death Day (2017)
I'm being generous because it was my first horror movie, but...
I was instantly invested with this movie. At this point I'd seen Groundhog Day and shortly after this movie scream, which apon re- watching it now is what it definitely resembles, or maybe Groundhog Day and Prom Night's remake? Anyway it has slow first five minutes but after that it gets strange in a good way. I recommend this movie being the first for other potential genre fans as well, but, like every other movie, it's way better when you watch it with a group of people who have never seen it before. It's got it's cheesy moments, but what movie doesn't?
9/10.
Get Out (2017)
An amazing film and unexpected from Jordan Peele
And if you've seen the show Key & Peele, you'll know what I'm talking about. I always thought of Jordan Peele as a comedian and never thought I'd see him anywhere near the horror genre- until I saw the Halloween episode of season two- and even then I didn't think he'd do well with a horror film. But right off the bat people are getting kidnapped- and then it cuts to a couple heading to the woman's parents' house? It doesn't seem like it's a good transition but it really was.
An eerie film from the moment you turn it on and still sits with you as you turn it off and watch something else, this film will stick with you long after the credits roll.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Shows a rating doesn't mean anything about the quality of a horror film
I watched this for the first time after I first saw the trailer for the second one, and it was insane. Within the first five minutes you see why they've been quiet and scared about noise. You don't get a backstory until the sequel though so don't expect one in this movie. An insanely sad ending that instantly sets up a sequel that you'll be ready for.
It Chapter Two (2019)
It was an amazing movie with some strange moments
Wow. Just wow. I have to say I did prefer the first one, but this one was close to it. It was nostalgia filled for the characters, going through deleted scenes for the first one and playing with them to get more of the book in there. It was a deserving sequel though. They did an amazing job casting- again.
The Shining (1980)
Wow. All I have to say is wow.
Most horror movies try phony jump scares and gore. The truth is that this movie only has only one on-screen kill, which many consider racist because he was African-American . Also, the other terrible thing about this movie is how they treated Shelly Duvall off-camera. Other than that, it is an amazing horror classic and it is truly terrifying, especially jack Nicholson's Jack Torrence, which may be a coincidence? Jack playing Jack? Anyway, it is an instant horror classic but let it be known that there is full- frontal female nudity, which turns from a young woman to a elderly woman very quickly. The ending was well-paced and the sequel was good too.
It (2017)
Amazing movie
I loved it. It had an amazing cast and went as far as it could in the time it had... Which is the problem because it left a lot out from the book. Other than that an amazing movie with a good sequel.
Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)
This one was better than the first one but...
This one was only better because of Jason's introduction. Other than that it was just a copy of the first one just different names and a much more interesting kebab kill then the simple ones that are in the first movie.
