American Psycho (2000)
A Great Telling of Descent into Madness and Society's Facade
Patrick Bateman as a character is very well written which is paired amazingly with the acting, and the way the movie shows this idea of perfection and perfectionism and its consequences.
Especially with the business card scenes. All the scenes feel very unreal and it really signifies how out of touch with reality Bateman is by the the atmospheric feel. The way it shows his lack of identity , being referred to by different names in multiple scenes. Him not having any real hobbies or anything. Like he says he feels like he isn't a real human, he has no connection to society or anything which is showed in the out of touch fever dream feel of this film. Nobody recognizes him as Patrick Bateman, not even himself. In his eyes he's not a human, he doesn't exist to himself.
Bateman kills people in attempt breakfree from this facade of a society he deems as flawed and empty. This film does a good job at representing the more dark twisted part of the human psyche and well shows psychopathy along with showing Batemen's decent into true madness.
Also, the pacing is what I really love this movie so much, the pacing along with cinematics and details are amazing. Especially near the end when the dialogue gets less and less the pacing gets really chaotic and fast. It shows his decent and calm cool character falling apart. His image of "perfectionism" falling to pieces and taking it with him. The action and climax scenes are amazingly shot and written , in both a standpoint of just basic action shots while also a representation of Batemen's deteriorating state.
Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)
Boring
I could hardly stand watching this, the characters were extremely shallow and boring. Every "scare" (if you could call it that) didn't make me even jump once, or cause any sort of emotion. The whole movie I was waiting for it to end.
There was no interesting hook at all and it was extremely slow yet fast at the same time? I'd honestly rather being doing many sheets of algebra compared to this. It's a disgrace to the original and all sequels in general
In conclusion, watch a different movie. This isn't bad but it isn't good, it's boring. Hours of nothing except for sex scenes and mediocre horror, and not even the good kind of mediocre.
