Death Line (1972)

Disappointing 70's Horror
21 October 2007
Oh boy, oh boy... How can a movie with such a good premise turn out to be so boring and flat? When I was reading the synopsis I thought this stuff was right up my alley. No, I was wrong. Hell, even Creep (2004) was better. This movie seriously didn't know what it wanted to be. Quite frankly, there was nothing scary about this picture. They showed all too much of the 'caveman' since he's the one we're supposed to be scared of. And when the scary guy has more screen time in a horror movie than our good guys, he doesn't invoke fear in us, because we learn to know him so well. There's nothing mysterious about him. Nothing to be afraid of. Sure there's some gore but that's not enough to make a horror movie. I've got another concern too. The music is a major problem here. There's nothing atmospheric about it and we notice it straight away as the credits roll. I think it's jazz or something but it really doesn't fit here. Music is such an important element when you're creating fear. Now there's something good in here too. And it's a comedic thing. Yes, this worked better as a comedy. Watching Donald Pleasence as the detective was a blast. Great fun. That's about all I've got to say. Oh, and although he wasn't very successful here, Gary Sherman is a capable director. I've witnessed it my self when I saw Dead&Buried. Go see that Instead of this messy 70's horror.

Earth 2 (1994–1995)
Heart warming experience
9 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Being a terrific show, Earth 2 is the best TV-series ever to come out of TV. I now have the complete series on DVD and I can't praise it enough; it has wonderful and deep characters, it's well written and has good production values. Indeed, it's the characters that make Earth 2 so engrossing. After few episodes I noticed myself to be really caring for these people, each with their unique qualities and problems. We have determined and strong leader, Devon Adair (Debrah Farentino), Who wants her sick son, Uly (Joey Zimmerman) to get better on the new planet. Then there's rough but deep inside emotional mechanic John Danziger (Clancy Brown) with his stubborn headed yet sweet daughter, True (J. Madison Wright). Also part of team is a doctor, Julia Heller (Jessica Steen) who becomes part of the group leaving her treatcherous duties behind. Heller makes a deep pond with at first fearless pilot Alonzo Solace (Antonio Sabato Jr.) Joining them are also a happy couple, Morgan and Bess Martin (John Gegenhuber & Rebecca Gayheart) and Yale (Sullivan Walker), a man with his qualities modified. And these characters are only few of the many in Earth 2. Earth 2 is an intelligent series and all the episodes were great, different and diverse. Each episode have their meaning and although it's scifi - series we're speaking about, episodes are filled with human drama. This is no Star Trek with lasers, this is about settling an unknown planet. The Eden Group (that's what they are called) meet different species, mainly terrians and grendlers and also surprise surprise, other humans. All the actors did great job at illustrating their characters. Devon Adair, Clancy Brown, Antonio Sabato Jr. etc. etc. did solid work but there was one actress that I got very attached to. That actress is Jessica Steen who certainly spinned my head around. I simply loved her character Julia because there was just something about her... she gave me deep feelings. Julia's and Alonzo's relationship was the best thing about the series, the way two so different persons aren't so distant after all. I was always looking forward to see them together. All in all, Earth 2 is riveting piece of work. It's too bad it got cancelled after it's first season but maybe it was for better. It seems that if there came a second season there would have been radical chances in the storyline. Still, It will give fond memories as it is... Totally recommendable work, I give it 10/10.

Dragon Heat (2005)
8/10
Visually stunning and action-oriented HK movie.
7 December 2005
Indeed, this is visually the most glorious movie I've seen. The Dircetor Daniel Lee gives us a lot of eye candy and he helms the action scenes well. This movie gives me an eerie feeling as I'm not used to see Asian movies and I like the flashback kind of scenes were we are given some background about the characters. All the actors give us good performances although I found the baddies more interesting. Especially Michael Biehn gives us a first rate performance, it's a shame he doesn't have any martial arts scenes. Maggie Q plays her role with ease, just by looking tough. Overall, this movie is well worth watching, maybe a little minus comes from the too shallow characters this movie creates. Maybe this is because of the fact that there are simply too many characters to plunge into. But the characters are still better improved than in many action movies. A big plus for the great soundtrack.

Navy Seals (1990)
8/10
Good as an Action movie
23 March 2004
Lewis Teague has made a bunch of average movies. This movie doesn't offer anything new, but as an action flick, it might be a legend for somebody. It's a great story about " America's secret weapon", Navy Seals. Casting is very impressive, including stars like Michael Biehn, Charlie Sheen and Bill Paxton. character development is minimal which is very understandable, after all it's all about action and little humor. Michael Biehn makes the most realistic performance from the cast, as a tough lieutanent. On the other hand, Charlie Sheen concentrates on joking in his role. Bill Paxton has got sadly only a minor role with hardly no lines at all. Movie is all about action, but good kind of. Worth watching.

Screamers (1995)
8/10
A - class movie, B - class budget.
28 January 2004
Christian Duguay is really starting to be one of my favourite directors. This is an awesome movie; done with small budget but still working. Special effects are average But the plot and acting are fantastic. Peter Weller and Roy Dupuis make this film very enjoyable.Dupuis as Becker is actually my favourite character in this one. His Shakespeare lines are nice. This is an A - class movie and the romance part in the end is the only thing I didn't like in this movie. This is a movie for scifi fans, definately.

Interesting story supplied with great acting.
17 January 2004
Ghristian Duguay succeeded well in this movie. After seeing this movie, I'm really looking forward to see Screamers. This movie has a great story, and it doesn't spoil itself with too much violence. It was nice to see familiar actors in the movie. Wesley Snipes was in good shape, and Michael Biehn as the bad guy made me feel really good. He sort of returned to the good movies. Like every movie, this was it's own kind and there will never be anything like this.

A great mark in science fiction history.
3 January 2004
Robert Zemekis is a great director, although he isn't my type of director(Forrest Gump isn't my style). In this movie he hits the big time. A very realistic scifi-movie, which isn't about action, it's about real science. It has a great plot based on a novel by Carl Sagan, good actors and that travelling machine looks fantastic. It's a little bit different scifi-movie, but a great kind of.

Tombstone (1993)

Perfect on every part.
8 December 2003
I knew that George P. Cosmatos is a great director, but this surprised me completely. It's sad that he hasn't done anything since Shadow conspiracy. Tombstone is a perfect movie on every part; story, Acting, idea. Actor's are in top form, including Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Powers Boothe and my favourite actor Michael Biehn. Its a story about fight between good and evil. You could say that there is two pairs in this movie. Kurt Russell(Wyatt Earp) vs. Powers Boothe(Curly Bill) and Val Kilmer("Doc" Holliday) vs. Michael Biehn(Johnny Ringo. Especially scenes between Holliday and Ringo are great. Best Western film available, for sure.

Made with rush.
5 December 2003
Chain of command was not a bad movie to buy, because it was cheap, only 3 euros. I bought it only for my Michael Biehn collection, but I was still hoping it to be good. Well, it was average. It had the top actors(though I haven't ever heard of Patrick Muldoon), and ok story. But where was the concentration when making this movie. it was made only with 100% concentration when it should have been made with 110%.It is made with big rush just like the time would end or something. I'm not disappointed because I know it had the change to become a good movie. The idea was good, making it true was not.

A legend of it's time.
22 November 2003
No doubt of it. The Terminator is a movie that I won't never forget. Mostly because of that Michael Biehn is on it but also because of it's made by master director James Cameron. Movie was the opening for many star actors of today; Arnold Schwarzenegger (as the Terminator), Michael Biehn (As the savior Kyle Reese), Linda Hamilton (as Sarah Connor). Even Bill Paxton is on this movie. Movie is made with the touch of specialists (James Cameron, Gale Anne Hurd, Stan Winston, Brad Fiedel and so on),the effects are good for a movie of the 80's, music is...well what can you say except legendaric. The movie is getting little bit old, but it won't never be forgotten. Seriously I can say that is movie beats at least Terminator 3 and maybe even Terminator 2. A movie that no scifi fan should miss.

DeepStar Six (1989)

What a disappointment.
16 November 2003
This movie was not good , not good at all. I mean usually I like from this kind of movies (The Abyss, Leviathan) But this one just didn't work on me. Only good thing in this movie was the creature effects. The story was adequate and acting average, but this movie was somehow boring.I watched this movie as a VHS with bad quality, but it can't be about that. I might pay from this movie a euro or two just for the collection.

The Shining (1980)
8/10
One of those old different horror movies.
11 November 2003
This movie doesn't scare with ghosts or vampires. It scares with a thinking, that a very close and important friend or even a family member could brake and loose his mind. Stanley Cubrick moves Stephen King's thinkings on a film with great success. Although the movie is old it still scares people around the world. Jack Nicholson (in a one maniac role!) plays the role of a writer Jack Torrance. Shelley Duval makes a good role as Jack's wife Wendy. Danny Lloyd plays the role of a boy with great talent, Danny. This is one of my favourite movies because of good actors (especially Jack Nicholson) and good plot.

Movie couldn't been made without hard work.
10 November 2003
The documentary shows clearly how hard it was to make The Abyss.Making- team of Abyss really had problems making the movie and it almost was doomed to fail. Document includes scenes of actors talking about the dangers that occured, and scenes of making the movie of course. I have to say that it's almost impossible to think what kind of technique they already had at the 80's to make all the special effects. The documentary show everything you need to know about the movie.

Dog Soldiers (2002)

Messy plot, but the werewolfs were awesome!
9 November 2003
This movie must be the best british movie, I've ever seen(ther aren't many).Movies idea of werewolfs isn't very new, but their outlook is scary and some how mystic. Actors make good work, especially Sean Pertwee as sarge(known from Event Horizon). Spoon (Darren Morfitt) acts in the most memorable scene, boxing against werewolf. The Plot is very hard to understand, but when you watch it again, it gets clear. Music is something I won't never forget. It sounds almost as good as in the Rock, almost. Very succeeded movie from Britain.

Director Anderson delivers a well made scifi-action movie straight to your home.Effects are great and when I hear them speaking latin, it makes me thrilled. Plot is quite good and so is acting too. The movie just has some sort of effect on me...

K2 (1991)
7/10
K2, good movie. A real "Climber's guide".
7 November 2003
First 45 minutes of the movie offers nothing great, except family drama. But when they start climbing...wow! The wiews are cool, acting's okay, but I am not satisfied with the plot and the work of director, Franc Roddam. Music gives some suspence and mountain movies always gets me thrilled, but this movie feels like missing something. This movie was not suitable for Michael Biehn, who though made good work as selfish Taylor Brooks. Matt Craven was also good as understanding friend, Harold. Although this movie is not my favourite movies, it might be that for somebody who likes from mountain climbing. You could keep this movie as guide for climbers, because the climbing really looked realistic.

Aliens (1986)

Hmm...Aliens. As long as I know, the best movie ever made!
4 November 2003
When I first time saw this movie I knew I would never forget it.It's full of stunning action, believable special effects and it even keeps a learning inside of it, don't trust the company. Once again, James Cameron shows what he is capable of. impressive job from the maker of The Terminator and Abyss. The actors are also great; Sigourney Weaver remakes his role as Ellen Ripley, my all time favorite actor Michael Biehn makes a memorable role as corporal Dwayne Hicks, Carrie Henn plays the role of Newt and Lance Henriksen plays the role of synthetic, Bishop. Bill Paxton and Jeannie Goldsmith are also great! Aliens is one of those movies, that never gets me bored and that's because of it's full of fantastic acting and and it has a great plot. I got absolutely nothing bad to say about this movie,it keeps suprising me again and again. It's the best scifi-movie I know, and for all of you who haven't saw this, I would like to say: You are missing a one good movie!

Leviathan (1989)
8/10
one of those good scifi-movies!
3 November 2003
Leviathan is one of those underwater scifi-movies wich were made 1989. Abyss was a success with all that fantasy it included, but Leviathan and for example Deepstar six never made it to the stars. It just wasn't the right moment. Leviathan was made with good budget, average actors(Peter Weller, Richard Crenna and so on) and with professional director(George P.Cosmatos, who made wonderful job in Tombstone 1993). So what went wrong? Personally I liked the movie, because it had a good plot, lots of action and little humour there and there. I liked it, let's see if you like it!
