Review of Shrek 4-D

Shrek 4-D (2003 Video)
5/10
Disappointing
4 December 2006
'Shrek 4-D' is a lame excuse to use very popular characters in a 3-D animation for a theme park. It seems like the makers thought the 3-D element would be enough to make this watchable, but I think most fans of the 'Shrek'-films will be utterly disappointed.

The story sees Fiona (Cameron Diaz) being kidnapped by the evil lord Farquaad (John Lithgow), as a ghost of course, since he died in 'Shrek'. He has a ghost dragon to help him stop Shrek (Mike Myers) who wants to save Fiona. Shrek is helped by Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and the real dragon.

What is missing in this 'Shrek' film is the wit and the references to other moving images. There are some funny moments, but they all deal with the less important characters like the Gingerbread Man, Three Blind Mice, Thelonious and Pinocchio. Those small moments are references and they work, but other than that there is the 3-D, nothing else.

It will probably be enough for most people who just want to have a little fun, but even the three minutes of the 'Shrek in the Swamp Karaoke Dance Party' are more entertaining than this.
