I know that this game is not as popular as most other games such as "The Sims," "Final Fantasy," or "Halo," but it's got my liking. I've played 7 out of all the Nancy Drew games and so far, this one is definitely my favorite! Nancy Drew is staying at a Middle Age mansion to find out the reason behind the strange happenings of the lady-of-the-house. Like the books, it's filled with puzzles, games, mysteries, suspicions, and not one, or two, but three secret passageways! The characters, though they don't look it, are very real with their dialogue. It's also got superb animation and realistic CGI artwork. Trust me, even if you don't like the book, you'll love this game.

A fascinating game...

Although Nancy Drew games usually have many simple puzzles and seem less appropriate for adults, the Curse of Blackmoor Manor is my favorite game in the series and by far the most complicated.

Newly-married to Hugh Penvellyn, an English diplomat who travels very much, Linda stays at the manor with Hugh's sister and his daughter. Linda's mother is worried because of her daughter's changing behavior and wants Nancy to find out what is going on.

As you start exploring the Manor and the family history, you find that many members of the Penvellyn family were renowned scientists. One of them, Elinor, who had lived hundreds of years before, was thought to be a witch and there were rumors flying around, about a curse and a beast, the beast of Blackmoor Manor. At some point you really start to believe that the curse is true.

Aside from some simple mini-games that you have to play in order to obtain certain things, the puzzles are quite complicated and the last ones are actually impossible, if you don't understand where to look and what to do. Nevertheless, they are fascinating and are based on Astronomy, Astrology, Alchemy, Ancient Runes, Cockney Rhymes, Latin proverbs, legends and more.

I always rate the games according to its characters, its story (which in this case, are fascinating) and the graphics. Unfortunately, the game is quite old so the PC version may not look the best. However, it is a minor fault and it really isn't important compared to what the game has to offer. The soundtrack and the atmosphere are excellent as well, and I was terribly sorry when I finished it (even though I've played it again afterwards :D)

It is a game that's really worth playing and one of my all-time favorites.
