"Acting Sheriff" is a failed sitcom pilot episode. Apparently, folks with the networks didn't like it...but I thought the show had a lot of promise.
The town is getting a new sheriff. It seems that movie actor Brent McCord (Robert Goulet) somehow won the recent election and is about to take over the force. There is a slight problem....McCord is a complete idiot! A bombastic one who THINKS he's a great sheriff at that! However, his cockiness ends up costing him dearly, as he ends up losing his first prisoner!
I think the show worked well for me due entirely to Goulet and his wonderful delivery. Instead of trying to seem realistic, he went the opposite direction...playing the part like an overacting jerk. And, he was really good at this sort of character! Quite clever....I do wonder why the series was never approved.
By the way, if you want to see it, the show is posted on YouTube. And, if you like the notion of seeing an actor becoming a crime fighter, look for "Lookwell" on YouTube as well...it's even better than "Acting Sheriff", and like that show, it was somehow never approved as a series.
